The IJ are frustrated at this point The lose 1100 LYB's, and IJ flak is non existant, but more frustrating to them is that unlike my P-40's that are devasting the IJ raids -- his Tony's damaged a single Wellington attacking unescorted bombers .. I know that had to take my opponent over the top. Then my P40's destoyed a Tony maybe 2? to cap things off.

There has been a rash of surprise KB attacks involving the Southwest Pacfic as of late. Each AAR documents some sort of tracking of the Allies and the KB coming out from nowhere to strike with exterme proficiency. I cannot let this happen. As we start thinking of cleansing NG / Solomon's of LYB scum we are using our new found bases in the Marshalls and Kuassie Island to extend search arcs deep into where the KB might be thinking of an ambush.

So far I have not floated any CV's into areas not covered by LBA .. it has been a good strategy ...

The map below shows the interlocking search arcs over the NG/Solomon's ..

Sub patrols are important for that, too. Even if they don't make contact with ships they might see a plane where you don't expect one. A nice touch that a historical role for them works well enough.

Absoultely! In this situation the 'S' bpats out of Tabiteueua can reguarly patrol a band about 15 - 18 hexes out from where I think the KB could park for the night run and launch on the morning turn. In fact, I leave some boats in position that are detected just to put that thought in the IJ's mind. Then another band of "regular" submarines that patrol the 8 hex range. By running them side by side I do not miss much and bag an xAK or two [;)]

I sense the IJ are in trouble again with fuel. It is the penality in this game to run the KB helter skelter all over the place buring what seems to be an endless supply of fuel and then a few takers get hit. Soon the piper must be paid. Either industry suffers or the IJN suffers. One huge problem the IJ are havin gis estimating the fuel spent by local ships laying mines and sweeping mines. Thus suddenly fuel is dissapearing ....[:'(] Anyway It seems the KB is remaining quiet .. for now ..[8D]

I believe it is worth posting another map of Southeast Asia. With the fall of Nakhon Ratchasima the IJA are consolidating around Bangkok. I think the IJ have made a grievous error or are leading me into a deadly trap. They have abadoned Ayutthia [&:] [X(] !!! We have 1000 AV to include 4 armored units to cross the Chao Phraya River. It will be a race for sure!

We have our bombers to hit a night Port Blair .. maybe we can reduce the Betty's nestled here waiting to smack our supply convoys. Landing here takes a lot more than what we have in theater right now. 25K IJA in fort level 4 at least .. and the KB is lurking nearby .. night bombing is our only hope ..

I highlighted where I thought the best defense for the IJ might be right now. Something across Siem Reap and fortified positions within the jungle. I suggested this to the IJ player as I do not beleive Bangkok now will hold if I get Ayutthia. The rest of the I AUS Corps will be completly into theater in July sometime. Now the problem is .. supply ..

Note all those bases with red ! Supply is not even moving between Pegu and Rangoon!!! I am hoping this is a problem that Pegu was not a developed port and the port sharing algorithum superceeded the move supplies along the rail algorithum which is supposed to be 2,000 per phase .. Meanwhile we move supplies into Rangoon and stock all we can to support "Meaningful Kangaroo" scheduled to start in October.

My opponent often depends on a perfect similation of history according to their view of the world and not the game mechanics. In this case, the IJ depended on no movement or limited movement during the monsoons on a road crossing the Chao Phraya River, which is also a railroad path. The IJ leave it emoty and British AFV's cross in one turn securing the most criitical spot in the Battle for Bangkok.

Our brains are wired to try and make sense out of our world. The only thing I can say from the last battle is that 1,000 Thais were able to sneak though our lines in the middle of the night while we were sleeping [units were on rest] and move 96 miles in one night in the middle of the monsoon [8D]

The map below shows the situation. The 6th RTA in Rose color tries to cross Chao Phraya River shock attacks and then by passes our forces to the safety of Bangkok ...

Ok that vented ..

The capture of Ayutthia changes things in many dimensions. One of which is that the Allies can strat move units down the rail that extends from Chiang Mai to Ayutthia. When the Monsoon ends troops will be streaming into Thailand down this route.

We have about 28,000 or 884 AV right now at Ayutthia Facing us thus far in theater is 20,000 Thai's and 67 AVF's to the East. About 50,000 IJA in 12 units are in Bangkok. Supply is not moving at expected in the Monsoon season. But that does not prevent us from us jockeying for position and isolating Bangkok.

One other feature is new on this mao. The NCAC have advanced into North Vietnam at two points. I believe this pins units from supporting the future IJA line around Siem Reap. At the very least the defnesive line will have to include Hanoi along with Siem Reap.

Once we have Bangkok isolated we can move XXXIII Corps forces toward Ubon establishing the jump off points for "Menaingful Kangaroo" to begin in October 1943.

So here is the situaiton as of 16 JUN 1943.

Thailand:

The IJA have 60,000 [3000 AV~] well supplied troops behind at least fortress level 5 in Bangkok. We have I AUS Corps marching into theater to arrive in a couple of months. In the meantime we have 800 AV parked next to Bangkok to the immediate West blocking supplies from Singer's. 1400 AV sits at Ayutthia. 1789 AV sits at Nakhon Ratchasima. No supplies from Moulmein are moving .. yet .. 125 aircraft are supplying Ayutthia and 125 aircraft are supplying Nakhon Ratchasima. Not nearly enough to survive let alone conduct offensive operations. But as a force in being we are a huge distraction to the IJ [8D]

NG:

We are readying the next amphib attacks to target PM. 2 Full divisions and 3 armored brdgs. The main purpose here is to capture the airbase and project air power into the battle space. The real offense will not kick in until Ponape is taken by CENPAC forces.

CENPAC:

Eniwetok is the last vestage of resistance in the Marshalls. Forces are mashalling now to clean out the Atoll of LYB scum and then secure the Marshalls for good. Then .... Ponape. Once Ponape is taken I can project P-38's over Truk and reduce this base ...

I feel we are in very good shape for JUN 43. Although we are behind the curve in the Pacific, it follows a more cautious advance by LBA pace than the historical pace with the KB destroyed. Right now the KB is fully intact and a real threat until we put a crimp in oil/fuel production. One thing I think we can do ahead of history and that is to cut off supplies from the DEI in January '44 depending on how operations in Southeast Asia proceed.

The StratMap below diagrams where we are at and the immediate objectives. The IJ's empire is getting some pressure. The Allies advance along a much more careful land based air axis where as in real life with the IJN depleted pilots and sunk CV's allowed a much more aggressive route to be undertaken in '43 .. But we still advance-- albeit very carefully a la Mead with no Lincoln is hounding Nimitz about ending this war quickly [8D]

The plan remains to establish airpower between Cam Rahn Bay and Palawin effectively cutting off the DEI by January 1944. This will bring Japan to her knees and begin the process for the Downfall Operations. during 1944 - 1946.


The Immediate objectives are:


14th Army continue its seige on Bangkok supported by the 10th USAAF until October 1943. Then a direct attack. They are to reach Cam Rahn Bay no later than January 1944 using I AUS Corps, III Corps, & XXXIII Corps. IV Corps is to pressure Maylay.

SWPAC has an invasion force loaded and is ready to strike at Port Moresby. Securing this base will allow extending Airpower into the battle space over New Ireland Islands. Gasmata is the next Objective to be taken in Aug 43 Using Aus II Corps.

SOPAC continues to act as the anvil prohibiting power projection from Port Tuguli/Lunga. As IJA forces withdraw they will occupy the Solomons and project power into the battlespace.

CENPAC is taking Eniwetok this week. Then their attention will be turned to Ponape. Once seized this base will allow power projection over Truk neutralizing this IJN port while projecting search arcs over New Ireland as well as 4E attacks. CENPAC is responsible to seize Palawin by January 1944. The OOB is 3 USA Dvisions along with 3 USMC divisions to lead this campaign. Eventually there will be 6 USA DIV and 3 Marine DIV to take Davao ...
