Turn 18. Jul/Aug 1942. Allied #2.
2/28/21, 7:30 PM - [Allied]: Ok. I've decided on what I'm going to do in the West and in the Med.
2/28/21, 7:30 PM - [Allied]: Wife has a doctor's appt tomorrow morning. So it'll be tomorrow afternoon before I start things up.
2/28/21, 7:32 PM - [Allied]: It's nothing spectacular and should work unless I have bad luck. But I have to play the odds and take my chance. Can't let fear of bad luck stop you (or me) because if you do (I do) then you've (I would) always be reacting to the others initiative.
2/28/21, 7:35 PM - [Allied]: Getting those two impulses in a row for two turns in a row has really impacted China.
2/28/21, 7:35 PM - [Axis]: Yes it did
2/28/21, 7:36 PM - [Allied]: China was already on a knifes edge and that I'm afraid has sent her cover.
2/28/21, 7:37 PM - [Allied]: Let's see if the US can give her a hand.
2/28/21, 7:37 PM - [Allied]: They have something in mind that could help.
2/28/21, 7:37 PM - [Allied]: It could also go badly for the US too.
2/28/21, 7:40 PM - [Allied]: It's not reckless just risky.
2/28/21, 7:41 PM - [Allied]: Well enough analysis for the night. Time to relax.
2/28/21, 7:41 PM - [Axis]: Good night
2/28/21, 7:42 PM - [Allied]: good night.
2/28/21, 7:42 PM - [Allied]: Most likely I fear is that all my plans will come to naught and leave you in a better position than you're in now.
2/28/21, 7:42 PM - [Allied]: But, such are the choices that must be made.
2/28/21, 7:43 PM - [Allied]: By the way the book I recommend to you.
2/28/21, 7:44 PM - [Allied]: There's a video that captured his tank in duel with a German Panzer.
2/28/21, 7:44 PM - [Axis]: I checked it out. I don't read much but its definitely a candidate
2/28/21, 7:45 PM - [Allied]: They were in one of the few Pershing that saw combat.
2/28/21, 7:45 PM - [Axis]: cool
2/28/21, 7:45 PM - [Allied]:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFG2i4y3kXs
2/28/21, 7:46 PM - [Allied]: The Panther commander actually survived.
2/28/21, 7:46 PM - [Allied]: He hesitated to fire because he thought it was a German tank because it wasn't a Sherman.
2/28/21, 7:47 PM - [Allied]: The Pershing had a 90 mm gun vs 76 mm that the Sherman had.
2/28/21, 7:48 PM - [Axis]: Gruesome stuff
2/28/21, 7:50 PM - [Axis]: cut the guys legs off
2/28/21, 7:50 PM - [Allied]: When they got the Pershing, Clarence's (the gunner) crew was given the tank. After dry firing it a few times Clarence was order to "demo" for the MG Rose (3rd armor division commander).
2/28/21, 7:52 PM - [Allied]: Clarence knock down a few chimneys and impressed everyone. What's funny was that the exhaust blast from his first shot knocked General Rose and several of his officers over like bowling pins. The NCOs in the tank had a good chuckle about that. Muddy as he was MG Rose was very happy about the demo and couldn't wait to get the info off to Eisenhower.
2/28/21, 7:53 PM - [Axis]: thats funny
2/28/21, 7:54 PM - [Allied]: The German tankers had a saying. Anyone 1 of their tanks were as good as 10 Shermans. The problems was that the Americans always had 11.
2/28/21, 7:55 PM - [Axis]: Haha
2/28/21, 7:55 PM - [Allied]: For the Shermans it took a flank or rear shot to penetrate a Panther's armor.
2/28/21, 7:56 PM - [Allied]: No matter the range the 76 mm Sherman couldn't penetrate the frontal armor.
2/28/21, 7:57 PM - [Axis]: Right. Panther was a beast. Better than more famous Tiger
2/28/21, 7:57 PM - [Allied]: Except after trails with a captured Panther they found that they could penetrate the armor between the gun and the turret. Very small aim point but that was the only frontal shot that could penetrate.
2/28/21, 7:58 PM - [Allied]: At the start of the war 80% of the Shermans that took a penetration caught fire quickly and exploded.
2/28/21, 7:58 PM - [Allied]: They got that down to I believe 20% by re-positioning the where they stored the shells.
2/28/21, 7:59 PM - [Allied]: Anyway, good night ...
2/28/21, 7:59 PM - [Axis]: Good night
