Steve, I tried to reply to your PM, but your storage is full, and it won't let me send it.  Clean up, man!

I've not started on the turn, but should be able to get to my end this evening.  Please feel free to jump on it!

Actually , neither were you......but if you'd been in the USN , you'd know that aviation personel, both flyers and ground support, are known in the USN as Airdales. And that's a seagoing dog. So there![:D]

I make no claims sir! I was six inches from signing up to be a fighter pilot in the air force but computers tempted me back to the civvie world. Probably for the best as my personality does NOT do well in authoritative situations. Some asshole DI was sure to get his butt blown off if I'd joined. Good Lord was looking out for me there, for sure. [:D]

Do P3's fly from ships? Thought they were mostly land based, but I wouldn't know.

Generally it's not the DI's that get their butts blown off. [8|] P-3's are land based. It is possible to land and takeoff from a carrier, but would serve no usefull purpose. (Besides, where would you put the second P-3?). [:D] I was in training for SH-3 Seakings (as a SAR swimmer , a job I most definately did not want! Failing an eye test , then a swim test (a difficult thing for someone trained as a life guard, but ya do what ya gotta do!)[:D] and those birds definately deploy to Carriers.

While I've only been TAD to a ship once (a frigate) I've probably seen more salt water than Mike and ten of his buddies. The difference was Mike was 70 feet above it, and I was 200+. [:D]

Oh BTW , the name of the frigate? USS Consitition! [:D] And they never took Boston while I was aboard her![:D][;)]

DI's do when I'm their maggot. Big concern of mine.

I am correct in recalling you were a P3 guy, right? Heck, I even made you a P3 sig (which you haven't used:) ). Tell me I'm not that senile already! [:D]

Seeing ocean isn't the same as living on it, and take that from a landlubber extraordinaire. [:'(]

I would have loved to do Top Gun, but the swim test would have nuked me. Eye test, check. Coordination, check. Motion sickness test, check. Swim test, drown. I swim but not that good. I float like a rock. Too much effort involved to stay topside. I would have sunk within a 100 yards.

Steve,

You ever fly on an S-3 Viking? Those always looked like cool multipurpose carrier aircraft to my eyes. [8D]

They WERE very cool multipurpose aircraft! And ASW plane that can perform aerobatics certainly fits my description of cool![:D] To answer your question....almost. On two occassions I almost made it. The last time , I was actually sitting in the SENSO seat , strapping in when Some @#$%^%$#$% NFO (come to think of it, that's my description for MOST NFO's!) in a most conversational tone said "oh , btw , do you have your ejection seat qualification card with you?". [:(] The USN doesn't like to issue qualifications that are not absolutely required to do your job (unless you are a VIP...like all those Hollywood types get to fly with the Blue Angels!). So in short, "missed it by THAT much!" [:D]
