The IJAAF bomb Ayutthia .. and China .. otherwise quiet ..

One little piece of Intel:

2/12th Indpt Infantry Regiment is loaded on xAP Hie Maru moving to Saigon

The 12 Indepent Regiment starts in Northern China. The IJ have bought out this unit and on turn 403 moved the unit to Manilla. Now the IJ are moving it to Saigon. The times are getting desperiate as the IJ are draiining China to put up a defense in Southeast Asia. It might be the time to start putting up a serious offense in China.

More later ..

The IJ bomb Ayuttia at night and during the day ..

Morning Air attack on 75th Indian Brigade, at 56,61 (Ayuthia)

Estimated time to target is 4 minutes

Ki-48-IIb Lily: 1 damaged

Allied ground losses:
9 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

2E's from 20,000 feet is not going to get a lot of damage ..I suspect these Lilly's have moved from China .. as Southeast Asia is developing into a real threat for the IJ. They have also moved central reserve forces from the Home Islands. The problem is that the IJ instead of defendning a 10 hex front of rough jungle terrain with a poor road network near the India/Burma border they are defending a 10 hex front in Cambodia .. some of these hexes are clear terrain and the LOC for strat moves is well established. Thus it takes 3 times the force to defend adequitely as the Allies can shift forces along the front rapidly.

There is one obsticle to complete domination in this region .. Bangkok ..

We hit the port of Bangkok to reduce supply ..

Morning Air attack on Bangkok , at 56,62

Weather in hex: Light rain

Raid detected at 71 NM, estimated altitude 15,000 feet.

Port supply hits 1

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
13 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Port hits 21
Port supply hits 1

I estimate 10% damage to the port ..

SUBMARINES:

The Puffer is chased off a nice taker convoy .. [8|]

Ground combat at Wenchow (89,58)

Attacking force 31821 troops, 107 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1395

Defending force 12612 troops, 141 guns, 42 vehicles, Assault Value = 455

Allied adjusted assault: 444

Japanese adjusted defense: 1417

Allied assault odds: 1 to 3

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), leaders(+), experience(-), supply(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
543 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 26 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 7 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 9 disabled
Guns lost 41 (1 destroyed, 40 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
798 casualties reported
Squads: 3 destroyed, 88 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 8 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 3 disabled

Assaulting units:
70th Chinese Corps
88th Chinese Corps
86th Chinese Corps
100th Chinese Corps
25th Group Army

Defending units:
17th Division
4th Mortar Battalion

I could throw away these Corps a la Soviet Doctrine and reduce the 17th Division. I have to think about it. One strategy here would be to rotate out forces until the IJ have to react. On teh bigger scale this sends the message that pulling out forces from China to reinforce Southeast Asia has some drawbacks ...

SITREP Southeast Asia:

It might be worth posting a new map now that Ubon will fall this turn and so many changes have occured.

First, Intel Confirms that the IJA are abadoning Bangkok and are railing units out. The Troop count has reduced from 60,000 to 20,000 in 3 days. The situaiton is dynamic as the Allies are outflanking the RTA forces sent out to die for the Emperor. Once the Allies hook Bangkok the city will be cut off from supplies and LOC. I suspect the IJA are busy forming a line around Phnom Penh.

We have moved an armored unit to Ubon and wil take the city this turn. This opens up a LOC from Aryutthia all the way to Ubon. To reinforce the theater I will stratmov elements of the III Corps to Ubon. Facing them on the other side of the river is about a rgt. Meanwhile we continue to organized the 14th Army setting up for October '43 and the change of seasons from monsoon. By this time I AUS Corps will be ready to jump off "Meaningfull Kangaroo" and take Phnom Penh. IV Corps will continue to hold Maylay and XXXIII Corps will form a central core in Thailand.

The map below with Intel Mapped:

I am thinking the LYB's have too many fighters and my boys consider it a suicide mission ..that is the only thing I can think of that would lead to a cancelled mission wihtout any messages ..

We turn loose every major group this turn. Ground bombing in Thailand to smack the RTA army in the open. Ground Bombing of Ponape preparing for an anticipated attack in 2 weeks. We also decide to hit the port at Lae.

An invasion force of 2 USA divisions is a day's sail away from Port Moesby. I have a reserve force of 4 tank brdgs to follow on if things get dicey .. Our plan in NG is to simply bypass the Solomon's with the next target Gastmata. This will effectively isolate the Solomon's. Then SOPAC forces can clean up the islands at will.

In three days we will have the survivors of the Port Moresby debacle back on the shores of Oz ..

Ok a break for my birthday in Vegas .. more later as I rescue my AAR from page 2 [8D]

BBday in Vegas? ...oh boy, you're gonna have fun!! [;)]

Well I hate to dissappoint but no penguins or debauchery ..[8D] The World Series of Poker is starting the main event this weekend . so I thought I would head into town and get some action ...I have not played Hold'em actually in two years and I thought it wold be fun for my birthday to break back in ...

I did have a fantastic meal at the Kings Fish House in Henderson. With the big hotels charging outragious prices and "resort fees" I am staying with a friend in Henderson .. the restaurants down here have less fake french accents and flare, but I think the food has a much better value [;)]

I woke up at 5am to turn my turn around .. but I am not sure I will have time to post results until tonight ..the second division (37th Division) lands at Port Moresby...

OK more later .
