Ouch. This hurt me bad! [X(] I was hoping to gain at least 1:1 odds in terms of losses.

Oh, well I need to deal with RAF so this is good time as any. I have swapped fatigued bombers and send in fresh ones in Bangkok. Also some 70 Zero fighters will fly againts Rangoon from Victoria Point. Add these to some 70 Zero's on escort mission from Bangkok and you will have one hell of an battle raging.

The really bad news is that my Zero pools are not looking good. Just 10 in replacement pools. (Add the 0 Oscars currently there so you can get an idea how bloody things have been)

Hopefully the Rangoon airfield will be shutdown. Chuck flew another raid againts my resource centers at Tavoy.

Other NEWS

Bases bombed were Badoeng, Batavia, Changsa, Cagayan (Resource centers bombed to dust) and Port Moresby.

KB is nearing DEI. From here they will cruise in to the area and shutdown any enemy resistance.

In China Nanchang might be circled. Enemy troops managed to push out my troops in the South.

Invasion TF is gathering and will hit Palempang soon.

Toboali was seized by IJA paratroopers.

Additional troops are loading at Manila and these troops will head out to Cagayan.

Other NEWS

KB will enter DEI region next turn.

Palempang invasion TF is loading and will head very soon. I have 2 full divisions earmarked  for this operation. Hopefully it will be enough. Current intel indicates that there are some 17 000 men at Palempang.

The following bases were bombed Badoeng, Batavia, Bankha, Changsa, Sabang and Port Moresby.

Mini KB will head out to Nagasaki were it will rendevouz with CV Junyo and soon to be launche CV Hiyu + additional Oilers.

Dont forget the (combat?) engineers. Supposedly they help to prevent damage to the oil fields and resource centers.

Anyway you should bomb the forces there to dust before actually capturing the base.

Good luck!
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

Cheers Mistmatz,

Yeah. Those engineers are important. Unfortunately I can just manage to bring in 2 Base Force units into this battle.

So far the resources have been nicely intact though. The biggest problem is that I do not have control over key bases at DEI just yet.

I decieded to launch bombardment assault to get intel on his troop strenghts. So, 29 units totalling near 200 000 men! I hope I can hold onto to this base. Changsa was bombed daily and hopefully it will burn his supplies.

These Dutch bombers flew out of Balikpapan. The tanker received just minor damage.

Additional Japanese troops started unloading at Cagayan. I think the base will be overrun quite quickly now.

He's got to be running out of hurricanes by now, I'm guessing 25-30/month for replacements but don't have CHS installed to check it out. try an game as allies vs the AI to have a looksie (assuming thats allowed).

Your Zero sweeps were by far more effective at killing off canes than those tied to escorts, is that because of experience ?

good luck
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

I could look it up BUT I want to "fight blind" so to speak. This makes the game more intresting and quite an challenge. (As it isn't already playing with Japan)

I noticed that similar fact too. Don't really know why the sweeps went much better. The experience levels were quite the same actually. Around 65-80 so it propably wasn't the decisive factor. Propably something to do with Dice rolls. Allthough I did notice that earlier too the sweep missions againts the Hurricanes were quite deadly.

So, I guess it might have something to do with fighter models engaging too.

Otherwise I'am doing "ok" as a novice. Despite my Zero pool which is currently empty 0!! but on the bright side I now have 2 Oscars in the pools!!! [:D][:D][:D]

Oh, ...and I still do intend to assault Soviet Union!!!

I think it's sort of a rock-paper-scissors thing.

From observation (most things being relatively equal in plane qualitiy, quantiy, experience etc), by mission, the pecking order (top to bottom).

Sweep has advanatage over
CAP has advanatage over
LRCAP has advanatage over
Escort is pretty much fodder to distract from bombers.

It's like saying a SC TF trumps a bombardment TF which trumps an ASW TF.

btw you still got a PBEM ongoing vs Dave? *curious*

Yep.

It's about May 43.
He has most of his flight decks intact (only one CVE sunk because it decided to hit a mine into and out of his Midway invasion).
I have Essex, Wasp, Sara, + CVEs and CVLs + some RN flight decks.  But basically, I've been "roughly handled" in that area.
Have just liberated SoPac except for Fiji and Nukufetau.  It cost me 3x CVEs with two torps each, 1 will be ok, 2 might go still succomb to wounds.
Midway is his, but next on the bashing list.  It's been "combat splattered" for a while - I think I actually had him watching for me to liberate Midway, so I moved for SoPac (he was still able to throw lots of 2es at me, we hatessss them).

My guess is, he's fortifying the heck out of CentPac, given his experience in your game vs. Dave.  So I'm just going to "do something different" (altho I have no idea what that is at this point).

Next task is to "combat splatter" Fiji and invade Midway "sometime when I get around to it".

Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if Dave let me have SoPac (not really that defensable for him anyway).  But I'll take what I can get.  It seems that that my game vs. Dave is my "lessons in what NOT to do as Allies".  I'm really still playing just to "not lose" (no auto-victory).  I don't think I will get nailed by auto-victory, it's like 2.4 : 1 (which I realize goes to 3:1 in 1944).  But the ratio isn't getting any worse, so I think I'm good for it.

I wish I could come up with a way to stop his training programs, or train my own pilots up.

I actually thought about leaving Upulo or one of those tiny bases in SoPac for training, but it just rubbed me the wrong way (not calling it gamey).  So I didn't leave any for training (for me).  Shrug.

[8|] ...Ouch. Yeah, Dave propably wohn't let CenPac unguarded after the bombing campaign he got in our game.

Yeah! I think you are absolutely correct about SOPAC. The further the game advances than more "useless" it becomes.

We are now reaching June 1945 in our PBEM.

..now an AAR update to follow...

[X(][X(][:(]  ...this was a disaster!!! RAF is a force to be reckong with! Next turn I have put some 300 fighters into sweep mission in Burma. Hopefully this problem will be eliminated.

ECONOMY

* I'am running out of aircraft. My Zero squadrons are quite depleted and I do not have any aircraft from which replace them. (Same is with Oscar's)

* Currently I haven't had any new aircraft designs come into production!!! [X(] ...this is NOT good!

* Resources are running short and I'am shipping everything I can into Japan!

....basically I'am committing an Harakiri here somehow! [:(]

Well done aztez, you got Palembang intact! Lots of lovely oil and resources! When you take Balikpapan you'll get more. Likewise Kendari.

Meanwhile, unless you have a house rule against it, Palembang's oil/resources are vulnerable to air attack from Batavia. Suggest you consider moving in some good fighter units to guard against that.

Not sure what new a/c you're expecting to come into production - from memory, don't think either Ki-44 or Ki-61 are due to start rolling off the lines until July/August or thereabouts.

Where can you make cuts to get fighters where you need them? Are the air attacks at Changsha and Moresby really a priority right now? What can you do to boost fighter production to maximum? Can you throttle production of transport/float plane production, for example? Perhaps even stop bomber production? How is your supply situation? - if good, you might be able to make limited expansions of the fighter assembly lines, but in your situation that may be very risky and won't produce a quick solution.

Suspect that reducing all but essential air ops to a minimum may be best way to go.

I assume your fighters over Rangoon were on escort mission?

If so, try to get the zeroes in on sweep missions for a few days and escort your bombers with scrap that you can afford to loose afterwards. On sweep missions the fighters perform considerably better.
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?
