Post by Coach Z »

July 7th, 1942

The Aussie 2nd Infantry retreats back into Darwin! (Drat I was hoping to attack him again)
Allied 4E bombers beginning to show up in #s; 2 decent sized raids todays and we know he has another 48 B-24s in North Eastern Australia.
The USS Chicago is finally sunk! The damn thing has survived over 20 x 250 kg bomb hits plus an 18 inch torpedo!
Strange Air Raids @ La Foa! Our bombers attack an EAB unit, ignoring the whole US Infantry Div, the fragment (like a third strength) US Inf. Div, NZ Infantry Bge, and a Tank Bn located there....very strange....I was thinking Floyd had buggd out to Noumea. But our ground attack went well there so whatever!
Although Floyd would think I'm crying I am disppointed that many of his AKs and APs fleeing Noumea are getting away!

Between the 2 BBs they had only 1 salvo of 14 inch shells available so this was all secondary monut fire before they withdrew. I think the game likes to keep the BBs at 3 "salvos" of ammo just in case before they cut you off.

OK - His base AV is still higher then mine, but I have more troops moving overland and unloading over the beaches. The effect of those bombardments has to be adding to his disruption which will lower his AV and hopefully counter some of the Fort multipliers. The question is to try an Attack before the other unit hits the beaches [still 2 days out] or to wait till it unloads which will delay everything several days.

JULY 9th 1942

A IJN Transprt TF is Mauled leaving Adak Island by US Naval and Air Forces.
The 2nd USMC Division shows up at the 'party' in La Foa.
The Aussies move their 'other' Division out of Darwin to Delay the 16th Army
Plus a small Aussie unit is playing around in the woods/jungle west of Darwin.
Allied Transports slip passed IJN subs and planes to deliver supplies or troops(?) to Broome.
I don't understand why my Betty/Nell units in this game...we spotted that TF w/many APs last turn yet still no strike either turn with decent weather (partly cloudy & Clear)

Current View at La Foa in New Caledonia.
I believe he has several Base Forces, SoPac HQ, and a RCT in Noumea it self.
I have a Mixed Brigade, and a few minor and supporting units moving in from Koumac, plus another Infantry Division still unloading.

In the post before, was that too much Info all at once?
I don't know if people like having all the details.

If not.... to add to the details-the 16th ARMY in the Hex outside of Dariwn consists of 2 Infantry Divisions, 2 Tank Regiments (one really chewed up), a Field Artillry Rgt, a Mortar Bn (mostly disabled), and an Engineer Rgt.

At Wyndham I have a bunch of BaseForces, two AA Artillery Bns, and a small NLF.

Northern Front
Well he really beat the crap out of me at Adak Iskand. My PT Boats didnt get involved and his cruisers ripped my transports to shreds! Then his B-26's did some damage as well. I was trying to withdraw the 7th Division and just leave the BaseForce for now, in case he invades with the 1st USMC Division which he had @ Dutch Harbor. I didn't think the 7th with the small amount of supply at Adak and only 1 Fort, could hold off a Full USMC Div supported by the bombardments he could make from Dutch Harbor-back-in-forth w/o an air attacks (I think he had 2 BBs-North Carolina as well as the Mississippi- plus all those Cruisers up there).
I am moving more supply to Attu and from there I have an "Air Bridge" to Adak. I may try to sneak a small AK in to Adak under cover the HIYO's TF. Perhaps he'll send out the Hornet and the Wasp but only time will tell.

Central Pacific
Still alot of nothing! The main activity seems to be sweeping the mines laid by his subs. I still have a datai of A6M2's & NELLs @ Kwajalein who have yet to get involved in ANY action! I was keeping them there in case he makes any raids while my carriers were away....actually I just removed a Chutai of NELLs from there a few days ago. Perhaps I'll rotate these guys in to the mix in the SoPac region and send some other units to replace them (I'm sure their 80 experience would be welocmed down there).

Southern Pacific
Slowly I move down the island of New Caledonia. Well it looks like Floyd is commited to defending La Foa, a forward defense of Noumea; thats fine with me. Hopefully tomorrow the 21st MIXED Bge will enter La Foa and I'll look to make some major attacks there. When the 4th Infantry Division arrives I am hoping to have made some headway against him (seeing AV #s falling); if that occurs I'll send my Cruisers to bombard and launch a Shock Attack with the pursue option on! I hope I'll be able to chase him into Noumea which will increase his disruption and fatigue. I can only guess he's increased the Fort Level at Noumea to 5 or 6 by now, and if this operation takes too long he may get that to 9!
Getting stuck at Koumac by that darned Engineer unit (which held off a PARA Rgt & a Yok SNLF PARA Bn for 3 days) simply killed my chance of a quick campaign.

OZ
I got some revenge by sending a CL and several DD to attack a group of AKs unloading at Broome. But though several sunk, I was not informed what unit ...i.e. I got no TF# is rescuing men from the blah-blah-blah Division. So does that mean I only sunk AKs holding Supplies? I did get messages that there were several casualties both from the Naval Combat and from the subsequent Air Attacks from the JUNYO's air wing. In any case I have several heavy cruisers heading towards Derby and after they bombard Derby perhaps they will head to Broome to engage those transports. Our base AVs are very similar at Derby so I am counting on the other TANK Rgt and SNLF arriving today (since they are both @ 60 anyway!). The majority of the 4th MIXED Rgt will take 2 days to enter and after they enter the main assault will begin with the landing of PARATROOPERS!
In Darwin the 35th Bge will enter the hex south of Darwin and give me the strength to Shock that Division and pursue it back in to Darwin. Which will also cut off the fragment of the Darwin Defense Bge playing in the jungle west of the city.

CHINA
I have finally surrounded Ichang. I will make another bombardment attack or two and then try to assault the city when the 2 Divisions I 've been holding out arrive (tomorrow or the next day). Hopefully we can get the level of those darn fortifications down a level!

BURMA
Well looks like the Battle of Myatinkia will start soon. I don't think he can realistically take it. The Chinese troops have to cross the river and auto shock against the Division, Brigade, BaseForce, & Mt. Gun Rgt there; who not only receive the river benefits-but those for jungle and several levels of Fortifications as well. I am currently trying to conserve much of my air strength to pound his units when the ground combat is joined.

TURN NOTES: Well his Cruisers returned to Adak Island and finished off most of my damaged APs. They also destroyed the PG that was there to escort them home and the PT Boats that were there as well. I didn’t even attempt one salvo! Not one…and the PT Boats were in torpedo range throughout their entire combat, oh well – that sucked. All I wanted was for one of his cruisers to take a ‘fish’ then the NELLS or the Carrier planes would have a chance to finish her off and make him pay a little.

On a positive in Burma, my TOJOs made him pay in their air over Mandalay. Not only did the TOJOS, ZEROS, OSCARS shot down some and damage a bunch, they turned the whole raid back. While the combat results said 6 Liberators were destroyed on the Air Loses screen I see 7 destroyed in Air-to-Air (BANZAI!). Also the 15th ARMY HQ has arrived in Myitkyina and WOW did it drag supply with it! More suuply at that base more then tripled! I think I have over 700 AV there plus a level 3 Fort (and building) in a woods hex. I don’t see how he’s going to be able to dislodge me from there. His Chinese units will be penalized due to crossing the river, and now I think I have enough supply to fend off the British and Indian Forces from Ledo.

In OZ more troops move into Derby and I think that my major assault is only a few days away. Although I may have to accelerate that due to the fact that I have no idea how many troops he has unloaded at Broome. Since those AKs came from India, I can only guess that it’s a UK or Indian Infantry Division…but maybe its more. The squadron of FULMARS my raid over Broome met were original based on the HMS Illustrious…does that mean that she is among the Cruisers I spotted in a TF at Broome (as we know carriers are often mistaken for cruisers). I hope my “Paratroopers” can hold off the 632nd Tank Destroyer Battalion for one more day, because tomorrow they will be strongly reinforced!

In New Caledonia my advance down the island has slowed to a crawl; the 21st Mixed Brigade seems forever frozen – 2 days, while the 4th Infantry Division moved all of 2 miles yesterday. I’ll be patient for one more day and then if they do not arrive I may try to assault the Allied lines w/o them

In the Home Islands I have miscalculated and now need to rush oil to feed my industries. I was trying to create a few mega TF’s but I don’t have the reserves to organize that yet, maybe next month.

Derby on July 11th

Post by Coach Z »

Hopefully all these troops plus the rest of the 4th Mixed Rgt will be able to take Derby, before whatever troops he landed from India at Broome can make a difference. But don't worry I still have some tricks up my sleave.
Driving me crazy that those BETTY Datais (Naval Attack with 40% Naval Search) on Java haven't really done a good job on the TFs he's had steam past Java to Australia.

Turn notes Form July 12th:
Well we found the other two British Battleships! I think 4 x 18 in. torpedoes will knock the Ramillies out of action, but the Resolution only took one, and the combat report did not mention her even being on fire. Funny I was thinking I'd find the Illustrious after the encounter with those Fulmars [861 Squadron], but she escaped unnnoticed (again). I had a CL and 6 DDs rearmed and heading for Broome to finish off those Aks and possibly look around for the Illustrious, now they will simply bombard Derby.
At Derby the opening round of battles turned in my favor as we reduced his forts to a level 2. Today we will drop the 2nd PARA RGT into the assault on Derby! The rest of the troops will assault as well and perhaps we can take the city today....I doubt it, just hopping to reduce his forts another level.
Outside Darwin, he moved the 2nd Aussie Tank Rgt to join the 5th Aussie Inf Div. The road to Wyndham is still opened and the 48th Division and another Tank Rgt are arriving to reinforce this mess. I was very dissappointed with my attack on his forces and we have to wait a few days. Delay, delay, delay-allows his reinforcements coming from Western and Southern Australia to get closer.

In China another attack @Ichang failed. I guess being surrounded for a few days didnt really matter much. I just cant believe that in all that attacks I've made there, and with all the Engineer Squads I have there, I am yet to reduce the level of his forts. Floyd has moved a couple of units into Canton, I am going to Shock Attack him out!

Still waiting for his attack in Burma. I may launch a little aerial attack of my own in the next few turns to try and reduce the effectiveness of his forward air bases. I had removed several Heavy Bomber Sentais to Bangkok & Saigion, they will now begin to return and then we will hopefully destroy alot of Commonwealth planes on the ground.

Things in the South Pacific are moving along slowly-like everything else (lol). The 21st Mixed Brigade after being stuck @ 60 miles marched for a couple of days, has decided to join the attacking troops at La Foa. With their addition I will try a Deliberate Assualt against the American-New Zealand line. Bombers from Luganville hit Efate hard, destroying 11 B-17's on the ground! We will try to hit Efate again before turning our attention back to Noumea. A Marine squadron of SBD's attempted to attack Nagumo's carriers, but over 50+ ZEROs on Cap took care of them.

JULY 15th, 1942

American troops invade Adak Island; at least two of his APs hit mines. I was getting upset that the 500 mines I laid weren't going to do diddly squat!
Unfortunately my Carrier TF does not hit the transports.....darn that weather. plus my Nells weren't all that effective.
Bombers at Wyndham decide to rest.

Derby has fallen and the advance on Broome begins!
SNLF forces will land tomorrow followed by more troops and several Naval Bombardments!
Perhaps we can take Broome before his troops retreat back in to the city.
Subs still chasing the HMS Ramilles.

JULY 17th , 1942

More American Marines unload at Adak Island. My carriers decide to attck the minsweepers instead of transports!
Allies begin to base multiple Spitfire Squadrons to protect their LB-30 Liberators at Calcutta; both sides take heavy loses.
British Carrier planes strike at an IJN TF landing SNLF troops at Broome. (My darn Betty untis are within range from Timor, but do not retaliate!
