I just hope the AI never ever picks out such a completely useless Allied strategy though. Sure, the Axis AI has to be ready for a human player to do that, but if I was playing the Axis I would crack a huge grin if this were to happen. Two more blue factories with resources for me, horrible terrain to advance out of, if you do advance Tito is suddenly right behind you. Even if Italy is so strongly defended that this is under consideration, it would still be better to make progress against Italy itself, somehow, some way (Offensive Chits, duhh), or just point the Allied war machine somewhere else than a DoW on Yugoslavia. Total Allied stupidity.

Yes, I agree completely. But if you know the AIO never defends the Yugoslavian coastline, it might be tempting to the human (Allied) player. The AIO should respond to a DOW on Yugoslavia by the Allies with a stiff defence.

I wouldn't necessarily say totally useless; however, since the probability that an Allied attack on a neutral Yugoslavia entirely by invasion will be better than any other alternative is likely to be less than 0.5%, I agree that the Allied AIO should not consider it.

An invasion of the ports after Germany has conquered/aligned Yugoslavia is a different story as they provide airbases over Italy (or for strategic bombing) or a good HQ spot for offensive chit use.

yes, I generally put my Balkan MIL units on garrison duty in those ports for just that reason.

this reminds me, the AI will need some script on how to garrison a country; priorities would be to cover with ZoCs the resource hexes, then the woods hexes, etc. a lot of script to write there.

Patrice did a very nice writeup on garrisoning - several pages - which is what I intend to use.
