Turn 31

Air Superiority Overview

Once again stopping to draw even a little breath brings disaster. FC benefit from the rest at least as much as I do, and meanwhile there are Sector AFs going unbombed.

EDIT: To upload the right graph!

Oops! Just one thing I need before I can plan the next turn, which I seem to have left off the Radar map.

Reducing bombing of RADAR sites has freed some extra units for striking at the main targets, but once again the time has come to head off a disaster. Using my usual criteria I have identified the 14 sites marked as in need of a visit tomorrow morning.

Bother, once again I ended the phase before I thought of doing a screenshot of the mission list, but in brief:

Mixed recces, but including most CFACs.
Miscellaneous daylight raids on a number of sector AFs.
Three night raids, two against SECAFs with large complements of a/c, and the third a CFAC.
Post-strike recces.

It's getting increasingly difficult to assemble and escort sizable raids, as fatigue sets in and morale drops, so if a transition towards more nights raids proves helpful it will obviously be good. By reducing the sortie rate this turn as well as last I hope to give my forces some rest, even though in the short term it will inevitably me a drop in AS.

Turn 32

A second consequetive 'rest' day for the LW has inevitably given the RAF chance to recover as well, and Sector AF repairs are happening at a good pace. Hopefully though my bombers will be able to put up a reasonable shows today because the pace of ops has been scaled back for the last 48 hours.

EDIT: to insert new graph - correct turn number now added

Summary

It's interesting to see that AS still peaked at 13, despite its poor finishing value.

Radar Coverage

I won't try to deny that I could have well done without West Beckham CH going back on line, but it's just something I'll have to take into consideration when plotting my raids.

Still only one ace, but my pilots continue to come from the most unlikely backgrounds!

Crews' Morale

I thought it would be interesting to see how this was holding up, so checked the test group of He-111 crews as I had last done on Turn 26. The results are below. What do they show? Well, despite four days of intensive combat, albeit followed by two relatively quiet days, the Heinkel crews have, on average, gained 5 points of morale, although this figure conceals a vast range of different figures. So, for example, while two gruppen showed increases of 23 points each, one lost 13.

Also, it's interesting to note that over this six-day period the loss of experienced crews in combat was almost exactly matched by crews gaining experience on ops.

hmm, František Fajtl as german bomber pilot?[&:] But his killing skill remained similar to when he was in the RAF as fighter pilot [;)]

Of course, my personal favourite has to be Feldwebel Broadhurst who is not only my most experienced pilot, he even brought his own aeroplane with him [;)]

P.S. thanks for your AAR Kevin, it is very interesting and detailed and your deeper analysis (morale, AS...) are excellent!
