WFF: my guess is that he already has, and that he's just a walking talking(and killing) corpse.... *grin*
thorgrim: okey, i stand corrected, you need one line in the database, one line to draw the color(if the color is not chosen in the db line, wich it should be), and a sound effect to point to, (for WS there will prolly be a pic or two of the weapon system, and a description of it, wich will make a few more lines) that's asfar as i can see it all there is to adding a new weapon, not taking game testing/balancing into consideration, still not that much, would be done within 30 minutes if you got all the ideas done, including all the extra things needed in WS.
any coder for ToS feeling like stettling this pointless argument?

Just remember that, in terms of sheer ToS knowledge, Thorgrim - also known as Iceman - knows more than practically anyone around, except for Larkin and maybe a couple others. You may not like his attitude (a lot of people have trouble with it) but if he tells you something about game mechanics or balance, you can bet on it being correct. He's abrupt to the point of rudeness sometimes, but it's not a personal thing, he's just like that. The bottom line is that Iceman is responsible for a large part of what ToS is today and even if you don't agree with what he tells you, at least think carefully about it.
So, there's my attempt to stop an arguement from continuing. How'd I do?

We sometimes catch a window
A glimpse of what's beyond
Was it just imagination
Stringing us along?
More things than are dreamed about
Unseen and unexplained
We suspend our disbelief
And we are entertained

tar: not to good, since the argument was really about coding, not game mechanics/balancing, wich i already in my first post about this stated "not including game balancing" or something like that, code wise it's very easy to do actualy, but the balancing issue can get very nasty and long winded, i KNOW that.

The weapon "database" as you call it is actually an equipment database, as of WS. It's a small file with the *base* stats for all equipment, be it weapons, armor, systems, bodypart sizes, etc. So no special effects, color, sound. I have the file, I know what's in it.
About coding, well, I can tell you I have a double degree in the field of electronics, telecommunications and computer science, so coding is part of my life wether I like it or not. I have had access to parts of Larkin's code. Just recently we've been discussing an improvement on the LoS calculation.
I'm not trying to make an issue out of this, but you keep talking like you know everything about coding games, and even WS specifically. Maybe *you* should relax and let other people do their jobs. And for the record, in here in this forum, I am always relaxed, whatever it might seem. After all, I am the Iceman
If Michael's effort was in vain, then like the man said, let the total looniness continue

looniness is fun!
and i just assumed it would be done in that manner i described, since it would be the easiest to maintain/update/patch, atleast asfar as i can see, although i have no degrees, nor any official coding stuffies, i do understand coding, and as a real coder once said that i think object oriented, it just comes natural to me, dont ask why, cause i dont know.
well, i was not intending to be a "knowitall" just assumed a few things to much....
but i really want a few more CC weapons, there aren't enough of'em imho.

Coding is fun and easy, when I code in C, I just repeatedly bash my head against the keyboard and hit 'Compile'!

[credentials dicksize war]
I know from even the Informations Systems minor in the Business/Arts degree I'm in the process of doing that programming is a pain in the arse.
[/credentials dicksize war]
And it is never more of a pain in the arse when your 'clients' are constantly changing their desires or requirements for the program or coming up with improvements the program just 'has to have' after you've begun coding it.
[pretentious allusions to Dennis Leary]
There's a certain point where you either say "The boat has left! No more suggestions will be taken, thank you!" or the program degenerates into a giant mess of hacks!
[/pretentious allusions to Dennis Leary]
Yeees, I know you are claiming that these ideas will appear in WS 3.0 but here's some news for you: WS 2.0 isn't finished yet. It still needs to be finished - then there will proably need to be beta testing and bugs to be worked out and support issues etc etc.
And once that is done, then AND ONLY THEN will it be time to start coming up with a requirements specification template for Warring Suns 3.0 and advice and suggestions for it will be useful and welcome.

Like I said, the *base* stats are in the file, and yes, to make it easier to maintain/update/patch, but other more specific stuff isn't. Larkin is a programmer, he knows his stuff. You think this is a week-end hobby for him and VB?Originally posted by discord

That's the problem with people nowadays...
There is a new CC weapon in WS. It's the Vibra Claw, and it's a kind of CC "meson". Adamantium claws, if you will
About WS, seems bugs are almost all nailed. Not all fixed, but nailed. 3D is the priority now. Some gfx are still being redone too.
It will be one awesome Xmas, believe me!

F**kin' A!
Looks like Larkin had an idea for a Meson-like CC weapon too. I soo want one of those puppies.
*Imagines a CC titan using Vibro Claws and Flame Throwers*
***Drools all over his keyboard, ruining it AGAIN!!!***
I just wonder though, how much bleedin' weight are these things gonna have? Also, when it does self damage, is that damage internal or external?

what i want to see is something like a megaton hammer (very heavy takes up a couple of slots but does alot of damage and has a good chance of dizzying or knocking out the opponent while having a fairly long reload time because of its weight) but its probably to late for something like that to be implemented anyway
wishful thinking ^^

well, i feel ignored... Maybe it was cuz the long length scared everyone away... well, there has to be at least one person on every board who cant resist typing long dissertations on any available topic..............
anyway, to the meat of this installment of "The things you may ignore if you dont like reading, if its longer than a game manual"
A thing about coding, I like it. I know of few people who LIKE it. Sure, theres plenty of people who do it, and i guess you have to like it after a while. But i like the challenge of it. If someone needs something, ill try every way i know how to do it. (and when i cant find a way, i ask someone whos better at coding then me.) I know of one other person like this. Anyway... thats it.
IM TIRED!! GO AWAY!! IM NOT NICE WHEN IM TIRED!! *claws at keyboard* MUSSSTTTT SLEEEPPPP *other insane mumblings*
