Axis third impulse (impulse # 5)

Weather in North Monsoon has rain instead of storm this impulse, Japan will attack ChangSha. Ground strike on the city failed but with HQ support Japan got a +12 after making the fraction roll and adding the HQ support. The roll was only a 7 so the net is 19 which cost the Japanese 2 units lost, both Divisions, and 5 units disorganized. The City fell but the Americans were upset and a chit was added to the Entry Pool

In Greece the Germans advanced but are not yet up to strength to attack Athens. The Greek mountain unit is being bypassed and it has been immobilized by a prior ground strike.

Allied impulse 3 (Impulse # 6) China land, all others combined action.

CW sends carrier planes to port strike La Spezia but they miss the targets completely.

CW sails a 6 speed 6 range Cruiser from Plymouth to pick up the Div that conquered P Delgada and then continue to gibraltar and debark the DIv there. Another Cruiser in Gibraltar then picked up the same Division and sails with it to the Cap Verde area

Other CW units debark into Portugal and soon will threaten Lisbon.

China moves to defend Cheng Tu from an approaching Japanese unit.

Acix impulse 4 (impulse#7) Italy combined, Ge and Jap land. Weather is now fine everywhere but Japan is not in position to hit the Nationalists in Southern China this impulse. Japan closed the Burma road, the USA did not take notice at all.

Italy sends a Mil to Sardinia

Athens falls to overwhelming force.

Off topic, but that's a really good screen layout you're using. I'm going to steal that shamelessly. [:D]

I'm assuming the offset of the main form is for the actionable counter window?

Yes, the main form offset if for the actionable units vertical strip along the left monitor edge.
I use the units in hex form and personally prefer that display for units in a hex over the flyout method. Both methods work just fine.

Wow, Jul/Aug 40 and China is all but gone, the new open map really cripples China. The fact Japan is that far inland, has no rear area garrison troops to speak of, yet not a single Chinese partisan is on map tells me they need to tweak the rules in China to help them deal with all the new ground that needs to be defended. At a minimum Japan should have to keep at least 1 division in every controlled city to prevent a partisan from automatically appearing at that city. Historically Japan could never have kept an army fed that far inland with almost no rear area garrison troops protecting their rail net.

Haven’t played WiF since about 1998, but played every version of it till the counters wore out before that as it was one of my all time favorite games. This will be my next game when I’m done playing AACW2, I just hope they do something to fix China by the time I purchase.

Thanks for doing the AAR, it’s a great read.

Actually the Chineee garrison needed to have 0 chance for partisans is 20. In this game the partisan risk has varied between 0 and 26 % with most of the turns about 10 %.

One of the reasons for the Japanese advance is that the focus on Japanese production has been land units. At this time the ship building has to take over most of the build points otherwise Japan would not stand a chance in the Pacific later on.

There has been only a moderate amount of Japanese units in Manchuria facing a possible Russian intervention there and in an AAR in solitaire like this one that is a potential peril much smaller than in a game with a real opponent.

The weather in the North Monsoon has also been favorable for attacks most of the time, only in this turn has it been stormy there.
