Scenario A
Sep/Oct 1939
Impulse: 2

With the German invasion seemingly unstoppable now (only weather can rescue Rotterdam) the CW (and the French) need to think carefully about the ground strikes they may wish to undertake.

The obvious place to strike is in northern Germany and the units that will form the northern arm of the pincer against Amsterdam. The French hold fire while the RAF sends a Blenheim to the Dutch/German border.

The fog that allowed Nurnberg to escape means the attack is a total and utter failure....

Remember now, in scenario B, the Germans have a second chance weather permitting to get another cruiser in the North Sea with a division...
Conflict with the unexpected: two qualities are indispensable; first, an intellect which, even in the midst of this obscurity, is not without some traces of inner light which lead to the truth; second, the courage to follow this faint light. KvC

Scenario B
Sep/Oct 1939
Impulse: 2

The Allies are greatly encouraged by this early success. The Senior service, having done it's bit, now hands over to the new kid on the block - the Royal Air Force. A Blenheim unit is ordered to the Dutch/German border to try and disrupt enemy forces gathering ominously for an attack....

The attack was pretty disappointing as the infantry columns were unmolested, although the light bombers did manage to strafe and damage a Luftwaffe airfield. That should keep the Zerstorers quiet for a while.

The ENG can be used against the CW in Rotterdam in case the invasions go wrong.
warspite1

As I had to start all over again I have amended this.

The British get the 3-strength Blenheim but the German units are generally better too...

%^%&^* sake. The US get THREE chits for Polish entry.... [:@] Seen this bug reported before but never suffered it myself... until now. Not starting again but will try and stop the next chit from being drawn to compensate...

You should report this one. This was fixed, but apparently isn't...

Question:

It does not matter here as the Germans will not be trying to intercept, but should a surprised power be able to intercept or is this a bug??

This is not a bug.

Scenario B
Sep/Oct 1939
Impulse: 2

The Royal Navy remains at sea with the transports fully loaded. There is still no agreement on where the BEF should land, and the decision is made to wait until German intentions are more fully known. One thing for certain, the Army will need Gort to set up an HQ in France just in case. Gort therefore lands in Calais to await developments.

I take the cowardly approach and decide against the movement into Krakow. An attack in the 3rd impulse is likely anyway, and I would rather defend it with 9 rather than 7 points.

The French land the 5th Corps in Brest in order to allow the speedier transfer of overseas units (the alternative would have been to put the TRS into a North Sea port.

The Polish air force heads or Warsaw and Lodz - they will fight for the homeland in the homeland.

And so the second impulse ends.

I assume that Warspite1 still is on the same old version that I am so this might be fixed in the latest version.

The mistake with the Poles has cost me the chance of getting a unit in the 4-box... oh well - live and learn.

The Home Fleet, with Admiral Forbes in his Flagship HMS Hood set sail for a patrol of the North Sea. His fleet consists of:

CV: Courageous and Furious
BC: Hood (Flagship), Renown and Repulse
CA: Effingham
CL: Delhi, Dragon, Dunedin, Glasgow, Sheffield

The fleet are tasked with escorting the BEF - Gort and two motorised corps. Destination at this stage is unknown....

They are waiting in Newcastle - this fleet is all about getting to the best box possible.

Yeah. You dropped the ball on that one.

Scenario A
Sep/Oct 1939
Impulse: 2

Reports are coming in from Holland that a force of German naval vessels is off the port of Rotterdam. The Home Fleet is too far away to intercept if that is where the Germans are headed.

This news is most unwelcome. The Poles are advised to dig in - help may not be forthcoming for a while if these rumours are true.

Gort lands in Calais to begin setting up the BEF HQ.

The French 5th Corps lands in Brest.

A sense of unease grips General Gamelin's HQ in Vincennes...

The Polish air force decides it will fight and die in defence of the motherland.

More bad news heads toward the unfortunate Gamelin - the weather is unseasonally pleasant. "Zut alors" mutters the elderly General, "It iz a good sing ze German Army iz not as well led or, how you say, professional, as ze French or zere could be trouble".

Adolf Hitler has a scarcely concealed grin all over his face as he receives the latest reports from his troops. All are in position for the next phase: without so much as a word, German troops march into Denmark and Holland...

EDIT: I purposely ensure there is no US reaction to make up for the earlier bug.

Scenario A
Sep/Oct 1939
Impulse: 3

The Dutch and the Danes both align with the CW. The Germans are free to choose a Land. They will need to get the convoys into the Baltic soon so this is an important impulse to get as much done as is practicable.

The Dutch place their 1st Infantry Corps in the capital, while the ships of the fleet are at anchor in Rotterdam. As many ships and convoys as possible are placed in Surinam and the NEI but this still leaves the following in Rotterdam:

CL: De Ruyter (Flagship of Admiral Doorman), Java, Sumatra, Tromp
Other: 1 x Convoy

Meanwhile in Denmark, the Danish King has told the armed forces not to fight to avoid useless bloodshed, but the men of the small Danish Navy hope to get away to the UK if they can. 5 convoy points are placed in Reykjavik and the remainder in Denmark proper at Fredrikshaven and consisting of two antiquated coastal battleships and a convoy point.

Scenario A
Sep/Oct 1939
Impulse: 3

With the Nurnberg having done her job, the He-115C is released from duty in the west and is sent to the Baltic in preparation for the German iron ore convoys sailing once more.

The 35th Infantry Corps marches into Gydnia. The Polish convoy point needs to re-base and is intercepted by the newly arrived He-115C, although this fails to find the Polish vessels. The Polish merchant ships continue into the North Sea where, unsurprisingly, Nurnberg isn't in the slightest bit interested in trying to intercept - and the merchant ships arrive in Hull.

In southern Poland the tidy-up operation continues. Krakow falls to the 49th Mountain Corps and the rest of Army Group von Leeb put the Karpaty Army out of supply. Moving the German fighter to East Prussia was not a smart move, although the Poles are unlikely to try and fight this lost cause.

Scenario A
Sep/Oct 1939
Impulse: 3

In Denmark, and aided by the fine weather, motorised units of the Wehrmacht storm unopposed into Copenhagen and Fredrikshaven. Unfortunately for the Allies the merchant vessels were destroyed by the advance units of the 11th Motorised Corps before they could flee the harbour, but the antiquated coastal battleship Niels Juel manages to make her way to Plymouth. Peder Skram is not so lucky and is destroyed. I am not sure why this is but must have something to do with the presence of the Nurnberg causing her to run out of range/movement points?
