RE: turn 58 end Moscow

Post by BrianG »

Pressure eases as tdv sends tanks north. Corridor now was too wide to cut off.

Race to the north pole

Post by BrianG »

TDv breaks north of horizontal rail line.

All out retreat is ordered for troops fronting the Fins.

Can they reach the frozen northern heavy forest hexes before the blitz troops.

Turn 58 TULA GRAD

Post by BrianG »

Using tanks near Ivavano( due to pressure easing), RHC launches Tula cut off attack trapping many German Infantry units.

Since all his tanks are north of Moscow, what can he possible have for a relief force!

Not so sure his move to the north like that was a good idea....he gains almost nothing other than mostly empty woodland.....Especially when he is barely fighting off encirclements in the South.

Despite how desperate things looked in 1941, I think the tide may be slowly turning in your favor. His Army is most likely getting burned out from burning so many troops per turn and even though you lost alot with moscow hes losing easily 3-4x as many men per week as his army is replacing. With a burn rate like that he is losing something like 2-3 entire divisions per week just in attrition. He can never make good on those high levels of casualties.

Look at the minimap in the northern thrust screenshot. Unless I'm missing something, if tdv reaches the lake he cuts off probably a million Russians west of his narrow bulge. It would be a disaster.....

Unless there is some supply source I'm not seeing, it would be a true knockout punch I think...

The very top row if intact should still provide a supply path but any units west with an MP over 100 can be forced to surrender whether technically cut off or not.

north supply

Post by BrianG »

west of the blitz is the Northern front, Northwest front and 3 armies
of the Western front which are threatened with cut off.

The Western HQ and attached Air are south with the 10th Army.

Supply issue which should be for war room is that If he reaches the northern border all will get cut and convert to his.

Query: Should the 2 northern rr which seems to reach the north border in fact be a supply source to Russian units?

I say yes they should. Do they go north to archangel? If yes the could be a legit supply spot?

North up that rail line is to murmansk actually if my geography is correct. Then there is a rail line midwar between the map edge and murmansk that splits off further to east towards arkanglesk.

Turn 59 Stalin not smiling

Post by BrianG »

Then I roamed to the north maps.

The smile dropped from Stalin's chiseled mug!

This was before my moves.

Turn 59 stalino before moves

Post by BrianG »

before moves. he cuts off 2 groups which was very annoying.

Stalin gave me a mean look when he studied the situation down here.

His units from Crimea seem to turn the tide each turn.

T59 STalino final positions

Post by BrianG »

More slugfest. I do best to rescue troops south of river. Major headache sector. I need to save units each turn that get cut off.

And his INF troops east of Stalino remain stubborn.

T59 OREL GRAD

Post by BrianG »

Feeling giddy from my Tula operation, I launch another blow against the first batch of relief tank troops,
TDV sent to relieve the blocked infantry. These tanks started coming from his northern thrust.

Obviously he has fulfilled his breakout mission up north and has room to transfer troops,

Major issue again as the middle does not have good defensive terrain.

OREL GRAD : Will this one hold.

btw I really considered doing a major withdrawal before I decided to attack again.

RE: T59 OREL GRAD

The Orel and Tula operations are an absolute disaster for him. He can probably break the encirclement pretty easily enough with the tank division, but in doing so is he just going to end up with another division encircled next turn. Hard to say without knowing what he really may have there.

This game just keeps getting better and better. What are the OOB's looking like in terms of strength?

It almost looks like he has nothing to stop you from heading northwest from Orel and possibly cutting of his entire Moscow breakout position. Will be interesting to see which of you encircles the other one first! Massive numbers of troops at stake here....
