A German Panzer shows up on the Italian coastal road northwest of Florence.

The Finns retreat and abandoned Lahti
The Germans abandon Mogilev and fall back to a north-south line north of marsh north of Babryusk.
More defenders show up south and west of Kiev while nearly everything to the south of that moves out of view.


Allied Turn
Frozen in the Arctic. Clear Everywhere else.

American forces come into contact with German forces in Iraq.
Baghdad, Tikrit, Najaf and Mosul are strategically bombed down to 0. Kut al-Amara should not recover enough to provide supply to the nearest German HQ in Baghdad; and Ramadi at 1 should drop to 0 for 2 units next to it.
2 US Tac bombers strike a German Corps at the oil fields on the Syrian border. The Corps takes 1 damage as does one of the Tactical bombers.
American Shermans, outfitted with new 76mm high velocity cannons (i.e. level 4) attack the German Corps twice doing 5 damage to the Corps (str: 2) while taking 2 back.
A Russian unit in Persia moves to the border of Iraq on the road towards Baghdad.

US 155mm Howitzers open up on the German 88s (AA unit) in Florence with 2 strikes. This is followed by 3 US Armies assaulting the city and destroying the German AA unit with it doing 1 damage back to 1 Army.
A US Corps, from behind the Armies, liberates Florence. US Medium bombers strike a German Garrison on the coastal road north and do 2 damage. The Corps then attacks it doing 2 more damage and forcing it to retreat north.
US Rangers move into the hex it occupied.
4 Battleships then bombard a German Panzer unit on the coastal road, with the USS Arkansas actually doing a point of damage to the Panzers. US Tactical bombers then strike the Panzers and do 2 more damage.
The Rangers then attack the Panzers and do 3 damage to them and force them to retreat towards Parma.
A full strength Army then chases after them and occupies the hex they left. The Army participated in the attack on Florence so can't engage them.

UK Tactical bombers do 2 damage to a Romanian Cavalry division in Edirne, Turkey.
3 Turkish Corps follow up and do 4 more damage to the Romanian Cavalry, while 1 of them takes 1 damage back.
A UK Tank does 4 damage to a Bulgarian Garrison and forces it to retreat.
A UK Tactical bomber then shatters the Bulgarian Garrison.
A 3rd UK Tactical bomber does 2 damage to a German Corps northeast of Sofia.

A Russian Corps occupies Lahti
A Russian Tank destroys a Finnish Garrison northeast of Helsinki with 2 attacks and then hex swaps with the Armored Train.
The Russian Corps in Lahti, attacks a Finnish Garrison, does 4 damage to it and forces it to retreat.
The Armored Train and Light Tanks do 5 damage to a Finnish Corps and force it to retreat, it moves into the hex northeast of Helsinki.
The Russian Rail Gun hits the port of Talinn 3 times and completely knocks it out.
German Special Forces unit northwest of Mogilev, on rear guard, are bombed by Russian Tactical bombers. German Interceptors take 2 damage, Russian Escorts 1, the Tactical bombers 1 and 3 damage is done to the Special Forces unit.
The German Special Forces unit is then destroyed but does damage back to its attackers: Army -1, Army -2, Shock -2.
Russian Medium Bombers do 1 damage and remove the entrenchment of the Slovak Corps in Babruysk.
The Russian Mech next to the town then destroys the Slovak Corps in 2 strikes.
A Russian Army moves into the town and attacks a German AT unit after it is bombed by Medium Bombers. The AT only takes 1 damage, while both the Army and Medium Bombers take 1 as well.
A 2nd Rush Mech drives pass the AT unit and attacks Von Manstein's HQ for 8 damage over 2 attacks, while taking 1 back.
A Russian Army does 1 damage to a German Corps 2 hexes west of Mogilev. The Rocket launchers behind the Corps appear to be empty.
An elite unit of T34s then attack the same Corps and does 4 damage to it and forces it to retreat.
A 2nd Tank unit drives past the first one but finds it won't do any damage to the Nebelwerfer, so instead attacks a different German Corps doing 4 damage to it and taking 2 back.
An elite shock Army moves west of Orsha and does 2 damage to a German Corps.
A Garrison is Cherkasy is bombed and then destroyed by a Russian Corps. The bombers take 1 damage, and the Corps moves into the town.
A Russian Corps and Army attack a German AT unit northwest of Kiev doing 3 damage. The Corps takes 1 damage back.
In the Ukraine, Russian Tactical bombers hit a Romanian Corps for 3 damage. A Russian Mech then does another 4 damage to it and forces it to retreat, and a Russian Corps chases it to do another 1 damage.
South of Kiev a Russian Mech does 1 point to a German Garrison across the Dnepr, then moves east out of the swamp.

Are you sure? After the change I never saw any losses by shore bombardements.

Yup, it did.
I've only seen it happen on weak and/or very low morale/readiness units and against air units.

The only difference here I note is that the American BB has a pip of experience and is at level 1 vs. the UK BBs which don't have the pip of experience.
Not sure of the Panzer's morale/readiness before I started bombarding it, but the American BB was last of the 4 to bombard.

It's kind of funny, because when I was using the same 4 Battleships against an Italian unit in Albania/Yugo I never did any strength damage in 5-7 turns of constant bombardment against a Corps.

Maybe supply level has something to do with it too?

My Panzer had high supply and normal morale so this was unexpected. There is probably a very small chance that this can happen and now it did.

Previous Axis Turn:
Frozen in the Arctic. ??? Mostly Clear.

The German defense of northern Italy is stiffened. A paratrooper is now being used to form a line.

In northern and central Russia there is a pull back with some screening units left behind.
Just north of the Crimea a short line is still visible from Kherson to the Kivroy Rog mines.

In Iraq the 2 strength German Corps retreats to the northwest of Tikrit.
The Iraqi Garrison appears to the northeast of Baghdad.



Allied Turn
Frozen in the Arctic. Rain & Mud in Russia. Clear Everywhere else.

One group of B17s destroy the 2 strength German Corps northwest of Tikrit with 2 strikes. The bombers take 1 damage.
The other group of B17s does 4 damage to the Iraqi Garrison northeast of Baghdad with 2 strikes.
A Russian 8 strength Corps then destroys the Iraqi Garrison after P-51s fail to do so.
Another Russian Corps moves to the northeast side of Baghdad and simply removes a level of entrenchment with an attack.
2 US Tactical bombers strike the 9 strength (1 pip exp) Panzers across the river. They do 1 damage to the Panzers and take 1 damage each. They also remove the entrenchment.
US Shermans then attack the Panzers, do 4 damage and drive them back towards Tikrit. They pursue the Germans and do another 2 damage.
A 2nd set of Shermans (str 8) then moves in and destroys the German tanks while taking 1 damage back.
Their 2nd attack does 2 damage to Von Rundstedt's HQ in Tikrit.
The 1st set of Shermans hex swaps with a US Corps that then attacks Von Rundstedt's HQ doing 4 damage and taking 1 back.

3 UK Tactical bombers attack a Romanian Corps in Sofia, Bulgaria. They do a total of 1 damage (and 3 entrenchment removals) and one of the bombers takes a point of damage.
The 2 Greek Armies then attack Sofia doing 4 damage, the Armies then hex swap with each other.
UK Heavy Artillery then moves with range of Sofia.
UK Tanks do 2 more damage to the Romanian Corps in Sofia but fail to drive them from the city.
3 Turkish Corps do 4 damage to a Romanian Cavalry division in Edirne.
HMS Ark Royal scout planes find a German fighter in Bucharest (and that the Romanian port city is empty).
HMS Formidable sends her air wing and shatters the German fighter in a single strike.

USAAC Piñata finds a German HQ in Verona.
US Howitzers bombard a German Corps in Bologna.
This is followed by Medium bombers and Tactical bombers. The Medium bombers take a point of damage. The Corps takes 2 damage and all the entrenchment is removed.
2 US Armies and the Rangers destroy the Corps, with one Army then occupying the city.
An Army and Corps then destroy a Garrison with the Army taking 1 damage.
4 Battleships bombard a German Engineer on the coast southeast of Genoa.

Fighters, Naval bombers and a couple of Destroyers scout northern France and find it rather bare.
US Tactical bombers strike a German Garrison in Le Havre and don't appear to do anything.
US Amphib (level 5) then attacks the same Garrison and outright destroys it. The Army then off loads south of Le Havre and then liberates the city.
A 2nd US Amphib attacks the Garrison in Cherbourg, doing 3 damage and taking 1. The Amphib then moves and offloads an Army on the friendly hex south of Le Havre. The Army then moves west.
2 US Battleships and 1 UK Battleship then bombard the Le Havre Coastal gun.
The Coastal Gun is then destroyed by the combined efforts of 2 US Armies (1 taking 1 damage), UK Lancasters (2 strikes), US Tactical bombers and finally a landing of 101st Airborne south of Rouen and then moving into the city.
A UK Amphib attacks the weakened Garrison in Cherbourg and destroys it. An Army is offloaded south of the city and then moves to liberate it.
A UK Corps lands on the friendly hex south of Le Havre and moves to liberate Caen linking Rouen to Cherbourg.
A UK Army and Corps then Amphib-attack/land/attack and take St. Malo. The Army takes 2 damage and the Corps 1 damage over the attacks/landings.

A Finnish Corps is destroyed via Russian Armor, Light Armor and Armored Train.
A Finnish Garrison takes 4 damage from a Russian Corps.
Russian units are now on the outskirts of Helsinki.
Talinn is bombed by Russian Heavy Artillery, then attacked by 3 Russian Corps and a Mechanized. The defending Corps takes 7 damage
A couple of Armies advance through the Western Baltic States, but most units seem intent to wait out the rain and mud. A German Garrison north of Daugavpils is destroyed by a Russian Army advancing along the road.
A German Corps south of Polotsk takes 4 damage from 2 Russian Corps and an Army.
A 5 strength German Corps southeast of Vitebsk is destroyed.
A Shock Army then moves to attack the German Corps south of Polotsk and does 2 more damage to it.
West of Babruysk a Russian Army does 3 damage to German AT unit and takes 1 back. A Russian Mech then destroys the AT with 3 more damage and also takes 1 back.
The Mech then advances next to Minsk and does 2 damage to the 5 strength Corps defending the city.
An elite group of T34s then advance on Minsk and destroy the remnants of the defending Corps. It takes both attacks and costs the Tankers their over strength point.
With the City cleared another Mech advances into it, an 8 strength Russian Armor unit then moves south of Minsk. Both Mech and Armor do 9 damage to a German Rocket unit which retreats west before it can be destroyed.
The Mech takes a 2nd attack against a 4 strength Corps next to it and does 3 damage. The Mech, however lost 1 point in both attacks and is now at 6 strength.
Kiev is attacked by Medium Bombers and the bombers take 2 damage.
A Corps takes a point of damage attacking Kiev.
A Shock Army exchanges 1 damage with the Hungarian Army in Kiev and then encircle the city.
Tactical bombers then strike the city doing 2 damage and taking 1 back.
A Mech moves over the river and attacks, bringing the defenders down to a 2 strength while taking 2 damage itself.
2 Russian Armies finish off the Hungarian defenders and Kiev is liberated.
A Garrison is destroyed southeast of Kiev and a Panzer Grenadier in Belaya Tserkov takes 3 damage and does 1 back to a Russian Armor unit that crossed the Dnepr at Cherkasy.
A Romanian Corps south of the Krivoy mines is the next target. It is destroyed at the cost of 1 damage to a Mech.
A Garrison in Kirovograd is destroyed and that city is liberated.

In the Balkans, the beat up Romanian Corps in Sofia is replaced by a Hungarian Corps, but it doesn't have any entrenchment.

Paris has a German AA stationed in the city and level 4 intrinsic AA.

A US Corps exchanges 1 damage with the German field Artillery, then moves towards Mosul.
The US Armor next to Tikrit then destroys Von Rundstedt's HQ in the town.
The Armor moves south as a Canadian Corps captures Tikrit. The Armor then attacks the German Artillery and does 5 damage to it.
B17s carpet bomb the Artillery and do 1 damage with 1 strike.
The Canadians then destroy the German Artillery.
A 2nd Russian Corps moves next to Baghdad.
2 US Tactical bombers strike the German Army in Ramadi doing 3 damage and taking 1 back to one of the bombers.

US Tactical bombers follow up doing 3 damage to the Corps.
2 9 strength US Armies then destroy the German Corps.
A US Corps races north through the gap as one of the Army enters the attacked hex. It attacks a Garrison north of Bologna doing 4 damage and forcing the Garrison to retreat. The Corps takes 1 damage in the fighting.
Another US Corps moves north of Bologna, then destroys the fleeing Garrison.
On the eastern side a 9 strength US Army attacks the Engineers (who were early bombarded by Battleships) behind newly constructed fortifications. The Engineers take 4 damage and the Army 2.
The Army falls back and is replaced by another which does 5 more damage to the Engineers.
The howitzers then move over to protect the Army and Corps next to the German Panzers.

More of northern France is liberated. Particularly the cities/ports of: Lorient, Nantes/St. Nazaire, Rennes and Le Mans.
2 US Armies park themselves on the outskirts of Paris.
Battleships bombard the Brest and Amiens shore Batteries.
Lancaster bombers carpet bomb the Brest Shore Batteries for 2 damage over 2 strikes.
UK Armor off loads at St Malo and then attacks the Brest Shore Batteries for 3 damage.

The Finnish Army north of Helsinki suffers a rocket barrage and is then bombed by Russian Medium Bombers. Finnish Fighters intercept and meet Russian escorts: FIN FTR -3, FIN ARMY -1, RU FTR -1, RU MB -2.
Russian elitie Light Tanks then do 4 damage to the Army and it retreats west.
Russian T34s rush into the gap and then destroy Mannerheim's HQ.
The Armored Train then rolls forward next to Helsinki taking the position the Russian Armor formerly occupied.
A Russian Corps and Army, via hex swapping, destroy a Finnish Garrison southeast of Hameenlinna.
Rockets are then fired at the Corps defending Helsinki, and the Armored Train attacks the Finnish capital doing 1 damage to the defending Corps.
A Russian Mech destroys the German Corps in Talinn, and the city is then liberated.
A 3 strength Corps south of Polotsk is destroyed.
A German Army between the cities of Polotsk and Minsk is then encircled and destroyed. It does 2 damage to a Russian Mech during its death throws.
A Panzer Grenadier is attacked by a Russian Mech twice takes 6 damage and retreats twice escaping destruction.
A Romanian Corps north of Kherson takes 4 damage from 2 Russian Armies and a Corps. The Russian Corps took 2 damage back.

More retreating in Russia, with a few units left in place for reinforcement.
German Cruisers bombard a couple Corps on the shores of the Baltic Sea. A Battle cruiser bombards the island town of Kuressaare. Kuressaare's port is blockaded by a sub and the Battle cruiser.
The Hungarian Army in Ulman does 3 damage to the 5 strength Russian Corps, but takes 2 back then retreats westward.

The 1 strength Engineer flees Italy and is replaced by a Garrison. Some other line adjustments are made here including a 2nd Panzer unit showing up northwest of Venice.

Rommel hex swaps with the last German Army letting them occupy Baghdad as he is apparently going to sacrifice himself.
The German Army does 2 damage to a Russian Corps outside of Baghdad.
The German Recon unit retreats to Najaf.

Romanian and German troops pull back from Sofia and Plovdiv to recapture the other 2/3rds of Bulgaria.

American Tanks destroy Rommel's HQ (str 6) in a single strike.
An American Corps captures Mosul, and the 2 oil fields of Kirkuk.
A Russian Corps attacks Baghdad, only removing an entrenchment level, and then captures the road north to Kirkuk.
A 2nd Russian Corps (supply 0) attacks Baghdad removes the last entrenchment, and takes a point of damage.
A 7 strength US Armor rolls south of Baghdad cutting it off from the German Recon in Najaf and positioning itself to be able to attack either city.
2 US Tactical bombers strike the German Army in Baghdad doing 3 damage, while one of the bombers takes 1 back.
The full strength US Armor takes its 2nd strike at Baghdad and does 4 damage to the German Army.
A Canadian and US Corps both do 1 damage to the German Army in Baghdad, forcing the 7 strength Armor to spend an attack on it as well to complete the job. The Canadian Corps then takes Baghdad.
The 7 strength US Armor takes its 2nd strike at the Recon unit in Najaf and does 4 damage to the elite unit bringing it down to a 7 stength.

UK Tactical bombers do 3 damage to a low supply German Corps 2 hexes northeast of Sofia.
The elite Greek Army then attacks it doing 3 more damage and forcing it to retreat.

The USAAC Piñata flies over central Yugoslavia and the unrecognized country of Croatia to find a German Fighter stationed southeast of Banja Luka.
HMS Illustrious sends a carrier strike at the German fighters and shatters them in one strike (2 dmg, iirc), while taking 1 back to her air wing.
A US Army attacks a German Corps in Parma doing 2 damage.

A US Battleship bombards the 5 strength Brest Shore Battery. UK Armor next to the Battery then destroys it and moves next to Brest. It is joined by a UK Corps as the Battleship blockades the port.
The 2 units then do 3 damage to the Garrison in Brest.
US Maritime Bombers fly 2 sorties near Paris and draw fire from the German AA unit there. The bombers take 2 damage on the first sortie and evade the damage on the 2nd.
This is followed by 2 US Tactical bombers that each take a point of damage and remove some entrenchment and lower the AA units morale and readiness.
Next the 2 US Armies (both 9 str) next to Paris attack doing 7 damage and each taking 1 back.

The Russian Rail Gun in Talinn fires across the Gulf of Finland into Helsinki 3 times. This is followed by 2 Katyusha barrages which does 1 damage to the defending Corps.
The Armored Train then does 3 damage to the Helsinki defenders.
The Russian Armor north of Helsinki then destroys the Finnish Corps and occupies the Finnish Capital.
The Russian Light Tanks and an elite Army (str 12) then destroy the 5 strength Finnish Army
The German Army in Parnu is surrounded, and then shelled by Heavy Artillery twice, however it gets a 2nd pip of experience for the effort.
Parnu is then attacked by 4 Corps, a Mech and a Shock Army and the German Army finally falls (it was very close). Three Russian Corps took 1 damage and the Mech took 2 damage.
2 Russian Armies attack a German Corps southeast of Riga, each does 2 damage and takes 1 back.
A Russian Army swings south of Daugavpils and almost cuts it off.
Another Russian Army exchanges 2 damage with a German Corps northwest of Daugavpils. The Army then hex swaps with a Shock Army to its southeast.
A Russian Corps takes 3 damage moving into a forest north by northeast of Wilno and being surprised by a Panzer Grenadier. A 2nd Corps is a bit more cautious in scouting.
2 Russian Armies leapfrog on the road running southwest of Minsk. The later liberates Baranowicze.
A Russian Mech advances to the south of a German Nebelwerfer 2 hexes south and 1 east of Wilno and destroys it in 2 strikes taking 1 damage in the process.
An elite (1 pip, 10 strength) Russian Armor then rushes a German Panzer stationed southeast of Wilno and destroys it in 2 strikes taking 3 damage in doing so.
A Shock Army and a Army do 4 damage to a German Corps to the Northeast of Wilno reducing it to a strength of 4.
Nothing is left with the range to bust through the opening to get at the HQ in Wilno.
A Partisan (not the Swamp King) and an Army attack a Garrison outside of Zhitomir, do 4 damage and make it retreat to the northwest. It is later destroyed by a Russian Corps chasing it down.
A Russian Corps moves into the empty town of Ulman.
In the far south of the Ukraine, the abandoned town of Kherson is liberated and 3 Armies attack a Romanian Corps to the northwest doing 5 damage, with the Army in Kherson taking 2 back.
There is no other push in the Ukraine this turn.

More retreating in Russia, Daugavpils and Wilno are abandoned. A force defends around Riga. Nikolayev is given up rather than face Russian Artillery.
German naval units blockade southern Finnish ports and the island port of Kuressaare.

Romanian units in Bulgaria move north out of view.

The German Armor in Italy retreats to Brescia.

A German AA unit arrives northwest of Reims, behind a fortification.

German Morale is improved with the formation of the Volksgernadier and investment in the Volkssturm.




Allied Turn
Frozen in the Arctic. Rain in England. Mud in Finland. Sandstorm in Iraq. Clear Everywhere else.

The cut off and out of supply German Recon unit in Najaf is destroyed, but does 1 damage to the American (str 7) Armor that attacked it.
A Canadian Corps sweeps through the town on it's way south to clean up Kuwait and the Persian oil fields.
Eisenhower shakes hands with the three Corps commanders of the Russians and wishes them God's Speed on their way back to Russia.

American 155mm Howitzers bombard Parma (twice) and Verona (once).
2 US Armies attack the German Corps in Parma and do 6 damage, one of the Armies takes 1 back. This allows an American Corps to enter the gap between Parma and Genoa.
American bombers (1 Med & 1 TAC) then hit the German paratroopers in Verona for 4 damage.
The Paratroopers are then destroyed by a US Army, the Rangers and a US Corps.
The USAAC Piñata takes a point of damage while taking photographs south of Innsbruck, Germany. They find a German Corps in the location and spot a German HQ in Trento.
The Army liberates Verona, and the Rangers race ahead and take a right at the fork to liberate Padua.
P51s strafe a German Garrison in the swamp to the northwest of Venice and do 1 damage, but take 1 damage as well.
A US Corps then destroys the Garrison, taking 1 damage themselves and occupies the hex, then moves to the north of Venice. A US Destroyers then blockades the Venetian port.
A US Army and Corps do 4 damage to the German Garrison in Genoa but fail to dislodge them.

Turkish forces, including 1 Army and 3 Corps destroy a German Cavalry division in Burgas, Bulgaria with the help of a strike from UK Tactical bombers. The town is then captured.
2 UK TAC bombers strike the Romanian Corps southeast of Nish for 6 damage.
A Greek Corps then exchanges 1 damage with the Romanian and hex swaps with the 9 str Greek Army, which then does 2 damage and forces them to retreat to the northeast.
The elite Greek Army then destroys the Romanian Corps and moves next to Nish.
A UK Corps does 4 damage to a German Garrison in Pleven.
The UK Heavy Artillery that helped take Sofia, shows up behind the lines on the western side of the Balkan front which has been exceptionally static due to Mountains, an AA Gun and a close proximity German HQ.

Brest is squeezed... err... liberated by a UK Corps and Armor, the defending Garrison is destroyed.
A UK Corps liberates Bourges on the approach to Vichy, while another races down the road towards Bordeaux.
Coastal Batteries at Amiens and Calais are bombarded by Battleships and a Heavy Cruiser.
An American Army does 4 damage to the Batteries at Amiens.
101st & 82nd Airborne flank the German AA unit, and a 8 str US Army liberates Reims.
US Armor destroys the Amiens coastal Battery in 1 shot and takes 1 damage doing so.
The US Armor then uses its 2nd strike and does 4 damage to the AA Battery through the fortification but takes 2 damage in the process.
The US Army that advanced to Reims then attacks the AA in the flank for 3 more damage.
The 101st, south of the AA gun then destroys it, taking 1 damage, and advances into the hex.
A British Army advances on Lille, destroys the Garrison and liberates the city.
The US Army in Amiens then moves north so that it is just south of Calais.

Russian Maritime bombers nearly sink the Admril Scheer (CA), near Turku, doing 6 damage (str 7 to start). They take 3 damage back from the Heavy Cruiser.
Russian Tactical bombers strike at a German Corps southeast of Riga, and German fighters intercept: GE FTR -3, GE CORPS -2, RU FTR -2, RU TAC -2
2 9 strength Russian Armies then attack the Corps and do 5 damage to it, while one of them takes 2 back.
Russian JS-2 model 44 (level 4) Heavy Tanks move next to the Corps and destroy it.
A Shock Army crosses the river and attacks a German Corps south of the recently destroyed Corps. The Shock Army takes 1 damage and removes a level of entrenchment from the defender, but also gives it a pip of experience.
T34/85 (level 4) move into the hex of the destroyed Corps and attack the Corps that the Shock Army attacked. They do 5 damage in 2 strikes and take 1 back, then hex swap with the Army behind them.
Daugavpils is liberated and a Corps and Army move next to a German Corps 2 hexes south of the one the Shock Army attacked. The Army attacks the Corps and does 2 while taking 1 back.
The Heavy Armor then attack the 5 strength Corps across the river that had been attacked by the Shock Army and regular Armor with its 2nd strike. Non favorable results ensue with the Corps taking 3 and the Heavy Armor 2.
Still it allows a Corps to cross the river and slip by the now 2 strength Corps and attack it, exchanging 1 damage and leaving the German Corps at 1 strength.
Wilno is liberated and a AT unit is spotted in Kaunas.
The Swamp king (Partisans) spots another AT unit in Brest-Litovsk.
A damaged (str 6) Corps scouts forward and spots a German Cavalry division in Grodno, a Panzer Grenadier southwest of Kaunas and a Fighter in Gumbinnen
A Shock Army moves south of Kaunas, and attacks the Panzer Grenadiers (8 str, 41% morale & readiness) across the river doing 2 damage and taking 1. A German Panzer unit is spotted northwest of Kaunas.
A Russian Mech moves northeast of Grodno, does 4 damage to the occupying Cavalry as they retreat to the southwest.
A Russian Corps stumbles into a German Panzer northeast of Tarnopol and takes 3 damage.
Just north of the Crimea, the Russians make contact with a German Army, German Corps and a Romanian Army as they liberate the abandoned town of Nikolayev.
Tactical bombers strike the Romanian Army on the Black Sea Coast and do 4 damage, but take 2 back (even though the Army has 0 in AA).
2 Armies attack the Romanian Army, do 4 damage and force it to retreat, as one of the Armies takes 2 damage back.
Neither Army is able to take the hex, but Russian paratroopers land there and attack the 2 strength Romanians, but can only exchange 1 damage. They do spot another Romanian Corps and German HQ to the west of Odessa.

More retreating in Russia. Screening forces are left behind at and near Riga, Gumbinnen, near Grodno/Bialystok, Brest-Litovsk and Odessa (2 Romanian Armies and 1 German Army).

In the Balkans, the Germans move away from the British Heavy Artillery, abandoning Pristina and setting their line through Pec.

In Italy, the Panzer and HQ disappear out of vision leaving only the cut off Garrison in Venice and another Garrison in Milan.

The Turks advance on Varna and south of Ruse.
The Greeks liberate Pristina and Nish.
A UK Corps takes 1 damage as it destroys a German Garrison in Pleven and then takes the town.
A Turkish Army does 1 damage to a Romanian Garrison south of Ruse.
A UK Armor then does 3 damage to the Romanian Garrison and forces it to retreat to the northeast (now southeast of Ruse), where a Turkish Corps then destroys it.
The UK Corps that took Pleven then advances along the road next to Ruse while the Armor advances along the other road also next to Ruse.
The UK Armor takes its 2nd attack against a Romanian Cavalry division in Ruse and does 2 damage to it.

A German Corps 2 hexes to the southwest is attacked by Russian Medium Bombers. Both Corps and Bombers take 1 damage.
The Corps attacked by bombers is then attacked by a Shock Army, Corps, Heavy Tanks and is destroyed by a Regular Army hex swapping with the Corps, which took 1 damage.
Riga is liberated with the use of 2 Armies, a Shock Army, the Heavy Armor's 2nd attack and a Tactical bomber. No damage back.
A Russian Armor liberates Jelgava and stops just outside of Siauliai and a low morale/readiness (low 40s) 8 strength German Corps occupying the town.
That Corps is destroyed via the T34s, a Tactical bomber strike and a Russian Special Forces unit. Unfortunately nothing is left with the range to liberate the town.
An abandoned Kaunas is liberated.
Grodno and Bialystok are liberated and the German Cavalry between the two is destroyed by a Corps, Army and Mech. The Corps takes 1 damage.

Rowno and Luck are liberated by a Russian Corps.
Proskurov and Vinnitsa are also liberated as German forces are spotted behind the Dnestr river.

Russian Special Forces land north of Varna and destroy the weakened (str 2) Garrison left in the Bulgarian port town. The Turks then move in and shake hands with the Russians.

Odessa is abandoned. Units are spotted defending: Johannisburg (Panzer Grenadier in the city and a Armor & AT to the north), Brest-Litovsk (AT), and 2 hexes northwest of Kishinev (Romanian Army).

The line in the Western Balkans is given up as well, only a Hungarian Corps northwest of Pec is spotted.

Near the Italian border a German Garrison is built or moved in Klagenfurt

In the west a German Corps arrives to build a short line, though in cities or behind fortifications, from Brussels to the coast.

France declares war on the illegitimate government of Syria.
American Tactical bombers quickly shatter the feeble forces that the government can muster in Damascus, and Shermans then roll through the Capital from the east.

Ultra reports an airbase in Brasov, Romania and UK Tactical bombers and Fighters are launched, shattering the remnants of the Romanian fighter force.

2 US Armies take out the German Garrison in Turin and liberate the city as well as the town of Aosta.
The 8 strength Corps in Genoa liberates Monaco and Nice, destroying a German Garrison in Nice with the help of a Tactical bomber strike.
Another wave of B17s hits Vienna (an Industrial Center) for 6 damage.

A UK Army, Corps and Armor destroy a German Garrison and liberate the city of Vichy. The Armor took a point of damage.

The Corps in Tilsit is bombed by Russian Medium bombers, and German fighters intercept: GE FTR -2, GE CORPS -2, RU FTR -1, RU MED BMBR -1.
Tactical bombers then strike the Corps unintercepted. They do 3 damage but take 1 back.
The Corps is then destroyed by a Special Forces unit and 2 strikes from the Russian Armor.
Northwest of Gumbinnen a Shock Army and a Regular Army do 7 damage to a German AT unit. It is then destroyed by an 11 strength Army moving in from the east.
Tilsit is then occupied by an Army.
Brest-Litovsk is then softened up by 2 Katyusha barrages and attacks by Medium and Tactical Bombers. The Medium Bombers take a point of damage and the defending AT takes 2 damage.

T34s rumble through the Polish Capital to the south of Modin, spotting a German Tactical bomber formation in Lodz, then attack Von Kuchler HQ and destroy it.
A Mechanized unit then drives past the Russian tanks and destroys the 4 strength German Tactical bombers on the ground in Lodz. They are unable to take the city though.
An Army liberates Modlin.
Cernauti and Kolomyja are liberated, are German paratrooper unit is spotted in Stanislawow.
Lwow is then liberated by a Mech unit that moves to the northwest of Stanislawow.
The paratroopers (who have no AA) are bombed twice for 7 damage, while doing only 1 back to a Tactical bomber. They are then destroyed by 2 Armies.

The only visible units on the Russian front are: A cut off 3 strength Corps in Konigsberg; A Panzer Grenadier in Danzig; and a sub next to the Memel port.

In the Balkans the Germans and their Hungarian allies continue to slowly pull back a hex a turn. They do take a single attack against a low supply Greek Corps and do 1 damage to it.

A stiffer resistance starts showing up against the Wallies.

Ultra spots German Tactical bombers in Stuttgart.
Canadian Maritime Bombers fly recon missions over western Germany.
Grenoble, Bayonne, Avignon, Dijon and Besancon are liberated.
American P51s strafe the German Tactical bomber airfield and shatter the German bombers.
The USAAC Piñata flies southeast of Luxembourg to draw fire from the AA gun, taking 3 damage. American Maritime bombers repeat the process also taking 3 damage.
1 Medium bomber and 4 Tactical bombers then strike Luxembourg and fail to do any damage, other than stripping all the entrenchment away. The Med Bombers take 2 damage and all but one of the Tactical bombers take 1 damage.
The AA is then destroyed by 1 strike from an American Armor and by the 82nd Airborne.
The 82nd then liberate the city, while the Armor advances through the Ardennes to get into the fortification line and flank both a Panzer Grenadier (southwest of Coblenz) and a AA (northeast of Liege).

Advancing Russian infantry spot a German HQ in Bydgoszcz. It is rushed by an Armor and Mech unit which quickly destroy Kesselring's HQ.

Combined forces of UK, Vichy and US Corps destroy a German Garrison in Marseille, the American Corps has enough movement left to liberate the city. A cur off Garrison is still in Toulon.
US & Canadian Maritime bombers fly recon missions over Southeastern France and western Germany. An HQ is spotted in Kessel.
A US Armor destroys an AA gun northeast of Liege (Hurtgen forest) in 2 attacks.
The US Jumbo Armor moves into the hex and attacks the Slovak Corps to the north, flanking the fortifications its in. The Corps is destroyed in 2 strikes, but does manage to do 2 damage to the US Heavy Armor.
US forces poor through the hole in the line destroying 2 more Garrisons, one in Cologne and one 2 hexes southeast of Rotterdam opening an even bigger hole. 1 damage is done to a US Army and to a US Armor in the fighting.

Yes, it did.

I suspect a major factor was the price of going all out for the Axis high water mark. In particular: The early end of Tech investment (and I suspect minimal German Industrial investment) along with ignoring Greece.

Oddly, Germany's morale was still higher (prior to the loss Dusseldorf) than the UK's. There appears no way to get the UK's morale back. They didn't loose any battles and won far more than they had 'draws' for the past nearly 2 years but still saw their morale slip 3 or 4 percent over that time.

Allied Turn November 6, 1944

Previous Axis Turn:
Frozen in the Arctic. Rain in Europe.

Germans pull back from the Wallies. Including the Army in Metz fleeing, and the Corps in the Hague evacuating via transports.
The planes in Vienna and Bratislava leave as a Hungarian Garrison shows up in Bratislava.
A couple of German Garrisons show in Kustrin and south of the town.



Allied Turn
Frozen in the Arctic. Clear in Western Europe. Rain in England the Alps. Rain and mud in Russia.

Toulon is liberated from a German Garrison at the cost of 1 damage to a US Corps and a Vichy French Corps (which for some reason stuck around).
The rest of the Netherlands are liberated.
a UK Armor unit destroys a German Garrison in Strasbourg. A UK Corps liberates the city, and combines with a UK Army to destroy a Garrison north of the city.
The mines at Essen and Dortmund are captured.
Mainz is captured uncontested by the 82nd Airborne.
A Garrison in Frankfurt is destroyed between a US Tactical bomber and a US Army.
Southwest of Frankfurt a Panzer Grenadier (without any AA) is destroyed between 2 TAC bomber strikes and a single strike from a US Armor. Both Tactical bombers take a point of damage.
A German Corps southeast of Mainz takes 3 damage from a US Tactical bomber, while doing 1 back. The US Armor takes its 2nd strike and does 4 more damage to the Corps while taking 1 back.
The 82nd Airborne does a point of damage to the Corps and forces it to retreat towards Frankfurt.
The 101st Airborne drops near Frankfurt and captures the city.*
Another US Corps does a point of damage to the German Corps driving them to the southwest of Wurzburg.*

Munich is captured, the recently reinforced and low morale German Corps destroyed at the cost of 1 damage to both a US Army and a Corps.
An Italian Corps destroys a 1 strength Garrison on the road towards Regensburg.
Valjevo is liberated at the cost of a point of damage to a UK Tactical bomber and to the Greek elite Army.
Osijek is captured uncontested.
A Garrison in Pec is destroyed between a Romanian Cavalry Division and a UK Corps. The Corps captures the town. This cuts off 2 German Corps with nowhere to draw supply.
The Russians attack Budapest, and the Hungarian Corps defending the city, with 2 Corps to no effect (other than reducing entrenchment).
Vienna is captured by a US Corps, and the Hungarian Garrison in Bratislava is then destroyed by the same US Corps and a US Medium Bomber.
Slovak National Corps liberates Presov.

Ostrawa is captured by a Russian Corps.
Russian Maritime bombers recon the Berlin defenses.
A Russian Mech (taking 2 damage) and a 7 strength Shock Army destroy a German Garrison in Stettin.
A Russian Armor drives through Stettin and destroys a 6 strength German Engineer northeast of Berlin.
2 rounds of Katyusha rockets fire into a fortified German Garrison southeast of Kustrin. This is followed by 2 attacks from Russian Mech next to the German Corps. The German takes 7 damage, the Mech 2. The Mech then moves to the northwest.
A Russian Army then moves up and exchanges 2 damage with the German Corps before the Army then moves out of the way to the north.
Another Russian Army moves up and completes the job, destroying the German Corps, and also moves out of the way to the north.
Russian Heavy Tanks move into the hex.
Russian Armor (str 11) then attacks a Mech, also fortified south of the Heavy Armor and destroys it in 2 strikes costing 2 points of damage.
The Heavy Armor then destroys 2 Garrisons, 1 in Kustrin and 1 to the south of the town.
An elite Shock Army (str 12) moves through Kustrin to the south of Stettin. It attacks an AA unit to its south and does 5 damage.
The Armored Train moves into Kustrin, does 2 more damage to the AA before moving away again.
The Russian Light Armor does 2 damage to a German Garrison in Dresden.

* Messed up the order of actions a bit, if I attacked and then dropped the paratroopers I could've killed it.

Allies liberate the Netherlands.

Slovakia surrenders.

A few units show up north and east of Berlin. Including 1 AA, 1 AT unit and a Cavalry Division and a Volkssturm Garrison.
A German Destroyer and a half strength Battleship bombard a Soviet Paratrooper southwest of Kolberg.



Allied Turn
Frozen in the Arctic. Clear in Europe.

Russian Fighters recon south of Potsdam to report on the defenses south of Berlin. They take 2 damage from a German Army they fly over.
American and UK fly their own Recon missions with the USAAC Piñata, Maritime bombers and even a fighter.

In Northwestern Germany, UK forces move eastward uncontested taking Wilhelmshaven and Osnabruck.
In Southern portion of the western front, UK forces liberate Mulhouse and Occupy Stuttgart and Mannheim.
In the center a US Army rushes through Kassel and destroys a 1 strength Tactical bomber in Erfurt.
US forces capture Schweinfurt and Wurzburg uncontested.
2 US Corps destroy a Garrison in Nurnberg, at the cost of 2 damage to one of the Corps.
US forces from the southern front capture Nurnberg and Regensberg.
A half strength Soviet Corps captures Brno and spots a German HQ in Prague and a Panzer unit northeast of the city behind fortifications.
An Italian Corps captures Linz and Budweis.

The 2 cut off German Corps in Croatia are destroyed by the combined efforts of the Greeks, UK, US and even a Romanian Cavalry division in the area.
The Hungarian Corps in Budapest is bombed twice and then destroyed by a UK Armor unit. The city is quickly taken before the Russians arrive.

Northeast of Neustrelitz a German Cavalry division is destroyed by a Russian Mech and a Russian Army.
Another Russian Mech circles to the northwest of Neustrelitz and attacks Von Leeb's HQ in the town doing 9 damage over 2 attacks.
A 7 strength Shock Army moves north of the town and destroys the HQ.
An 11 strength regular Army attacks the AT gun to the southeast of the Neustrelitz, doing 4 damage while taking 2.
A 9 strength Armor destroys a Garrison to its south (and to the northeast of Berlin).
A 6 strength Russian Tactical bomber hits the AT for 2 damage (bringing it to a 4), while taking 1 back.
With the AT units ZOC removed, the Armor unit swings through Neustrelitz and destroys a German fighter air field northwest of Berlin.
With 2 hexes next to Berlin now vacant, a 12 strength (3 exp) Shock Army moves next to Berlin (where the Garrison formerly was) and paratroopers land to the northwest of the city amongst the ruined Me109s and FW190s.
Frankfurt (Oder) is taken via an Adjacent Armor and Katyusha strikes. A Shock Army moves into the town and strikes a AA gun to the north, doing 6 damage for 1 back.
The AA gun is then destroyed by another Russian Army that moves to the north of it.
A Shock Army (8 strength) and a Regular Army destroy the AT gun (str 4) in the forest north of Berlin, each taking 1 damage doing so, and open a 3rd hex next to the German Capital.
Sadly it is determined that nothing can actually reach that hex.
A push to the southern side of the city is tried and a Garrison southwest of Frankfurt (Oder) is destroyed by a Mech.
A Garrison in Dresden is destroyed by a Army and a Corp, and a Mech takes the city. More German units are spotted near Leipzig.
A Russian Armor moves up and destroys a Garrison south of Berlin, But once again nothing can reach the hex (A Tiger unit behind fortifications to the southwest of Berlin and a Army south of Postdam provide too much ZOC).
Pardubice is taken, a Russian Heavy Armor attacks a Panzer through a fortification northwest of Pardubice and destroys it in 2 strikes at the cost of 4 damage.
Kluge's HQ in Prague is then destroyed by a Russian Shock Army and Regular Army. Soviet Light tanks then capture the city and the nearby mines.

The Assault on Berlin then begins:
3 Russian Medium Bombers and 5 Russian Tactical Bombers strike the city doing 6 damage to the defending Corps and wiping out all entrenchment. The bombers take about 7 damage spread out amongst them.
Then rather anticlimactically the elite Russian Shock Army takes the defender out and moves into the city.
The Frustrated paratroopers destroy another German fighter field (4 strength FTR) northwest of Potsdam.

Some additional units move forward if for some reason German doesn't surrender.
Further attacks against German ships and Airfields are called off.

Germany Surrenders.

Hungary Surrenders.

Occupied Countries are liberated.

Alsace is returned to France.

Iraqi rebels damage Mosul (yeah, how's that going to go for them?)

Greek Communists start fighting with Greek Monarchists.
