The Chinese have completely united, and the counter color now represents the nice blue dress uniforms. The Soviet capture of the Japanese territory stolen from China makes clear where the next threat to Chinese sovereignty will come from.

October 1940

Agents have obtained a memo originating from the Politburo regarding the Soviet analysis of the military situation.

Part one deals with the naval forces, and the Soviets realize they have no force to match the Western navies. This does not mean the Red Fleets will not harass our shipping, and perhaps do small amphibious operations, but in naval matters the advantage is ours.

Part two quotes the Soviet commander thus
"I have the ground game, and likely am close or even in the air"

The four nations which would stand opposed to the USSR in a future war are not weak in ground forces. The equipment edge in armor must be granted to the Soviets. However, this is not the only measure. We believe we have raw numbers in our favor. The Chinese have a very large army, and it is not the conscript army some imagine.

In the air we may be at parity, but perhaps we are stronger. The RAF successfully held off the Luftwaffe, which was not as frequently found on the Soviet front. Here we will defer judgement.

In the strategic realm our four economies should be stronger than the monolithic Soviet economy.

November 1940

Tensions are on the rise across the world. Europe is an armed camp. The Soviet rush into Germany and central Europe has put up an Iron Curtain behind which Germans, Italians, Poles, Czechs, and all the other subjugated nation states are submerged in a Red Tide. The brutal suppression of dissent in Hungary has shocked the world.

Turkey, which entered the Second World War at the worst possible time as an Axis nation has paid by being fragmented. No negotiations have resolved the matter, and armed forces abound,

In the Far East the Soviets have taken the lands stolen from China. They threaten the newly formed Republic of Korea. The Soviets never got significant forces to Japan and have announced plans to ransom off their holdings there.

War may come early in the new year.

The USSR is acting in the new year. War is on the menu.

NATO and the Chinese must stand and take the first blow. Where we could we pulled back a bit, but there are areas where no space could be created.

We wait for reports from the front. War is not pretty.

The Soviets have stormed out of their lines and piled into UN forces across the world. Here are the results of combat in the initial Soviet attack.

These are not devastating results. Our small pullback meant the Soviets often had to move forward to engage. This took a bit of their edge off. We lost 406 infantry types while they lost 273. The heavy Red tank forces did not take losses.

Turning to Northwest Europe we see the Royal Navy submarines off the Soviet German ports. Much of the Red Fleet has been sunk here. The Soviets have invaded Sweden and we want control of the Baltic uninterrupted by raiders. The Soviets have pushed forward, but the evidence of air and artillery attacks by the French and British show that this is not always a happy place for them.

Here is the south of Europe. The troops defending Italy have multiple forts to aid the defense. Here too we see signs of UN airpower, and artillery. Plenty of Soviet warriors, but no obvious spot to attack.

Turkey is under a powerful assault by Soviet Forces. We suspect the Reds are hoping to put pressure on the Middle East. We certainly intend to resist this vigorously.

The Soviets were too hasty to rush into Afghanistan. Many prisoners were taken, some by European and Chinese troops, but others by enraged Afghans. The sounds coming from the captured Russians in the control of the Afghan tribal women are sickening. One really must ask what the Soviets thought they were doing attacking Afghanistan.

Armoured Lion saw the strength of his enemies and commented "This won't take long." We both realized the situation heavily favored the UN forces (ex-Allied, ex-NATO).

He has very graciously agreed to continue. I now no longer consider this a competitive game, but rather a joint research project in a scenario that may not be repeated.

Let us follow Stalin's fate.

Chuck

An important battle for the airfield south of Samarkand, further jeopardizing the Soviets on the Afghan front.
