Turn 5. May/June 1940. Axis #4. Germany Invades France.
Germany has other plans than a repeat of the trench warfare of the Great War.

Turn 5. May/June 1940. Allied #5. Evacuation of the 2nd BEF.
1. With Belgium overrun and only one CW HQ in France (Gort), which can only support 3 units in France including Gort, RN is called upon to evacuate the 2nd BEF from Belgium.
2. However, a British heavy artillery division has to be left behind and will be lost.

Turn 5. May/June 1940. Allied #5. French Army Counters Attack.
3. At the insistence of Winston Churchill, and led by Col. De Gaulle, the French launch a "successful" counterattack to cutoff the Panzer Army spearhead just east of Paris.
4. This "successful" counterattack cost the French 3 units (i.e., dreaded 14 on assault) and disorganized all remaining (i.e., surviving) attackers.
5. For his part leading the counterattack, the French government "temporarily" promotes De Gaulle to Major General.

Turn 5. May/June 1940. The Western Front. End of Turn.
1. The French Army is on the verge of collapse.
2. However, the end of the turn gives the French army new life and the French people new hope.
3. Significant "reinforcements" are on the way (see allied production spiral, Jul/Aug to be posted a bit later).

Turn 5. May/June 1940. Destroyed/Repair.
1. Of Note, Germany's amph, which could have be sunk, was damaged in an RN port strike against Kiel (see post 122, air combat log, global 53-55).
2. This definitely complicates any plans Germany might have had for the invasion of Norway. That was exactly the intention of the RN in targeting KM's sea lift, especially their amph.
3. Note that France's losses are horrendous but don't include the French armor corps.
