"if you can't handle the worst combat result possible don't attack".

This is very inportant rule. Early in turn risk of disorganizing your units is reason not to attack. Think about attacking USSR and disorganize your panzer spear head in East Poland on impulse 1. They will stay there until end of turn unless you use HQ to reorg them. IfHQ stay there, units can trace supply only 4 hexes from HQ.
If your attack is going really well, it's an ambush.

Poland chooses Assault. They roll a 10 modified to 13. The German's lose all attacking units. Defenders lose no units.

Image
So if you breakdown this assault, you only had a 15.7% chance of winning the combat and capturing Warsaw. Additionally, there was a 12.7% chance that you would have had to lose 3 attackers.

I have developed an excel based 2D10 CRT calculator (free for any and all) which I use to examine such odds. I've personally found this tool to be invaluable in making informed decisions about which attacks to make, whether to force a blitz or an assault, whether to include ground or HQ support, etc.

If interested you can find, and download, this calculator here:

Germany's von Rundstedt uses his four reorg points to reorganize units around Warsaw. The 7-3, 7-4, 6-4 infantry units and the 2-3 anti-tank unit.

The Commonwealth decides to load the XV Mech unit out of Dover onto a transport and bring it across to France. I later realize this move to debark to France would not be allowed.

The Nationalist Chinese garrison at Chengsha is available for a rail move. However Chiang-Kia-Shek determines to leave the garrison there.

The Commonwealth elects to forego rail movement.

Communist China chooses to move the 1st Infantry into Nanyang to be a little closer to the front. As it is storming they can't move any further without disorganization.

The Commonwealth moves the Gort HQ and the XIV Motor along the coast from Calais to Bologne. Weather hampers further movement.

Woops I had not played in some time and am still learning the rules. The Foreign Troop Commitment limit for France prevents me from debarking the XV Mech into France at this time. So I wasted my time putting in on a transport in the North Sea.

You should get that CW plane out of France, so it can be replaced with a land unit. CW air units in Dover do just as good a job as CW air units in France, while the Allies need boots on the ground to defend France.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

Ok. Thanx. Hadn’t thought of that. Not having played in a bit I feel almost as if I have become a little “rusty” of what h ave learned this far.
