Declarations of War and Alignments: None
Japan: Land
Germany: Land
Italy: Combined
Port Attack: None
Naval Air: None
Naval Movement:
Italy
A convoy moves into the Italian Coast. In order to move the game along I assume the French will seek to intercept. There is no reason not to.
The search roll was 8 so the convoy was undetected. However, I can't then move it further (must be in the presence of the enemy rule perhaps?). So that was a waste of time and the convoy remains in the Italian coast.....
But worse, the French now get a throw at initiating combat themselves....
The throws are 4 and 4 and so the Italians are surprised (4 surprise points).
I increase the damage to the maximum and another Italian convoy is consigned to the bottom of the sea and the other aborted. That was an expensive mistake.

Land Combat:
Germany
One Attack announced against Warsaw
HQ Support from von Rundstedt
Japan
One attack announced against a Chinese CAV
No Ground Support
No HQ Support
Both attacks are +17. I take these in the order of the program - Chinese first then Warsaw.
I assume Assault for Warsaw as there is no where to retreat to. What about China - Assault or Blitzkrieg?

How do you know the Chinese wanted Assault as opposed to Blitz?

On behalf of the CW I choose Assault as there is nowhere to retreat to.
The throw was a 15 and the poles lose two units with the third shattered. But as there was no retreat path, the third unit is also destroyed.

Yes, there was a retreat path: Onto the units to the southeast, for an over stack, and then one more hex southeast. Of course, since the die roll was a 23, it makes no difference which table was chosen.
I thought I knew how to play this game....
