December 1941

Eastern Front

The Soviets have a lot of armies in the field which is concerning. 1942 will be a crucial year for the Germans.....

Dang Bro, you're not giving your opponent too much intelligence photos, are you?

Lol - no. We have wargamed together for sometime now - I completely trust him not to look at the thread until the game is over.

Looking at your global map, the Japs didn't take DEI?

Turn 59 + Turn 60
5-19 December 1941

In China Terauchi's forces pursued the retreating Chinese and destroyed a corps. To the south, The Japanese seek to encircle two Corps. They seem to have healthy supply (5 and 6) and I am hoping that this falls sharply next turn because I can't see where the supply comes from.

To the south there seems to be scant forces opposite Itagachi - and one army defending Chengchow - although I guess it depends what surprises the Chinese have for me around Sian.

To the south there appears to be a wall of fortifications south of Chungking. But my primary concern is the annoyance of Hong Kong.

Manila falls, but there is still the garrison at Legaspi to deal with. Irritatingly, a US sub flotilla survives a concerted naval and air assault.

In other news...

The Kido Butai hang around and destroy the third BB squadron, but only succeed in damaging the cruisers. I just hope hanging around Pearl doesn't come back and bite me on the bum.

Rabaul falls.

For the Italians its very much a case of batten down the hatches and hope in both North and East Africa.....

Meanwhile in Finland, two Finnish Corps attempt to trap a Soviet unit with a pincer attack.

The number of armies available to the Soviets is concerning....

Pskov refuses to fall and I can't snuff out the partisans.

The grounding of aircraft means that there is nothing much to be achieved anywhere other than the south. The German/Romanian force take Rostov this time and seek to encircle the forces guarding the Taman Peninsular. There is no way a frontal assault across the Straits of Kerch alone would work without artillery and air power I simply can't afford.

The PI surrenders - so didn't need to worry about Legaspi after all. Mao is considering being concerned enough to enter the war.

More Soviet partisans join the war.....

Yes I know about the P key and use it for Manchuria, China and Yugoslavia. I never once thought of using it in the USSR or anywhere else......[8|]

OK sorry didn't mean to offend, but I don't see a single garrison unit on any captured rear Russian cities.

Re-reading my response I can see why you might have thought I was being sarcastic, but the [8|] was aimed at me - not you.

I hope my self deprecating answer didn't offend. It was a truthful response. I know of the rule and have used it religiously for three countries. Yet, despite this, I never considered using it in the Soviet Union or elsewhere. As I've mentioned previously, if I had a brain I would be dangerous......[:(]

Turn 61 + Turn 62
2-16 January 1942

It's something of a mixed bag for the Japanese this turn. Terauchi's right flank continues to apply pressure in the far north, while the left flank aim to destroy - but don't have the power to succeed - the two Chinese corps trapped against the river.

Further south the Chinese 42nd Army holds on in Chengchow.

Further south Hong Kong is occupied - which was a key target for this turn - but little real progress made elsewhere.

Frustratingly the Kido Butai fail to finish off the US submarine that has been tracking them....

..although there was better luck to the north of the PI, where a Dutch sub was destroyed with naval and land aircraft.

It's a poor turn for the EuroAxis. In the far north the Finnish III Corps takes Belomorsk in its efforts to surround its Soviet namesake.
