Turn 3 (real time update)

Air phase

VL looks to have a unit in it. Recon didn't show anything circled in orange and I suspect a unit to be where the X is. Will prob this area for a unit since I would like to surround VL. I want that Level 2 RAILYARD :)

Can be seen the Soviet line forming to the SE of VL.

Turn 3 (real time update)

Air phase

Well, I forgot to put aircraft for recon in the yellow recon mission :( Oh well, I sux at this game. But circled in orange looks like a nice piece of cake sitting out there :) I love Soviets that do this. I would almost bet you 100% there is a Soviet unit on one of those two rough terrain to the SE of the circled orange unit. Will find out shortly.

Turn 3 (real time update)

Air Phase

The line is where I thought it was EXCEPT for the northern part of this. Is the unit circled in Orange a creeper trying to inflitrate my backfield if I miss it? Or is that the cornerstone of the Soviet line extending to the NE? Will prob and find out.

Yup, the Soviets are where I thought they were. Should be interesting. Is that more cake I see circled in Orange? Look like it is :)

I want to re-iterate here this game is a "No Early End" game. That means the Soviets have to match or exceed my HWM in the game on a victory check at the end of 44 to continue. Otherwise, from what I can tell in the rules, I win.

Just so people reading this will know what we are playing here since there are "no" Sudden Victory or Sudden Loss checks in this game prior to the end of 44 check.

Enjoy the show & hope I don't get beat up too bad.

Turn 3 Beginning Ground Phase

Have a few "cup-cakes" the Soviets left to slow me up last turn. I am in no hurry here so I surrounded last turn and move forward. All cup-cakes will be assimilated or die this turn ;-)

More Cup-cakes the Soviets left behind last turn. I go out of my way for the assimilation process. All cup-cakes will be assimilated or die this turn ;-)

Turn 3 Beginning of Ground phase

Just a note that from the recon you can tell the Soviet player is defending the double track rail with heavy pipe hitters. You have 3 units in the urban hex circled in Orange & 3 mountain Divisions. So the weight of Defense here is pretty strong & more than likely reserves set up. There is a Security on the front line. Highly unlikely Jubjub would put a rgmt there. So this SEC unit is a Division. The Airborne is the weak part of the line and thus the defense is tapered from strongest in the middle guarding the rail line to weakest with the Airborne. That is my best estimation of the Soviets front line.

The units (cup-cakes) circled in green should be in the woods without other Soviets around. That is my target this turn. If the Soviets stay another turn then they could be surrounded from the South if still guarding the Orange circle area.

By the way, the dual track Rail line towards Kiev does not concern me at the moment since the FBD is linking up Odessa(if I can take it quick enough) first to the track out of Poland. Thus the Rumainian FBD and German FBD should link up(all depends on Odessa though)

Turn 3 End of Turn for picture above

I wont bore people with too much detail but the SS Wiking attacks from the NW the 130RD and Soviet division retreats SW. Then follow up with 11 PZ Division against 44 TD which retreats SW. Then close the pocket. I misclicked the Rumanian PZ Division which was supposed to be in the hex marked with a blue X but it works where it is. Will show me how aggressive the Soviet player is. Not like I can change the location or anything ;-P

(please note some movement of other units took place to get the desired retreat paths)

The the soft factors is show Unit Expeperience in this photo.

Turn 3 Ground Phase Center Beginning

The bottom green arrow is what I will try first to prob for Soviet units. More than likely there is a Soviet unit on one of those 3 rough terrain with the Northern most rough hex being the likely candidate. If that is the case I will then move the top green arrow into place to force the Soviet unit to the SW. I will also position other German units in key locations to make sure the Soviet unit doesnt retreat to an undesired location. Please note I do NOT seal off this area ;) All I say on that. The orange line is my Incoming SS Division which I use for these types of attacks. Against single units they rarely fail PLUS these Soviet units are usually beefed up & good Morale so they arent going to shatter or route right away ;-) May take an attack or two but they will retreat instead of route. As you saw on the Experience Soft Factor on the South units it was the case.

I just didn't have the units to flood this area the way I like this turn. Very few infantry will even get close by the end of turn 3 having gone North :( Normally I just amoeba these forward Soviet units without attacking but not enough Germans to do so so had to herd.

Turn 3 Ground Phase Center End of turn

here is the end of Turn. You can see the Infantry exhausted all movement points to get where they are :( Less than a PZ Corps in the Area. Rest of them being up North.

I retreat the Airborne unit in the Land bridge line making the Soviet line vulnerable next turn. Choice by the Soviet will need to be made.

Soft factor is experience.

Air losses for me have been a bit bad :( I "F'd" myself by trying a different setting % to fly. Doesn't work too well so I switch it back to what I normally run T5. 178 total losses for me Turn 3 :(

Currently I am at turn 5 but can't do the turn and fully update this AAR because of workload :( Should be clear by Thursday though.

Here are ground losses end of Turn 3. I am really not pushing hard on most of the map. Which will contribute to me losing the game in the end I am sure. I have been concentrating on the rail network and moving forward slowly. Of course Jubjub is doing the retreat strat to stay out of range on most of my units on a lot of the map & when he does stay he puts up a very hard defense.

Turn 3 End of Turn

The way past VL was open. Recon was correct again, see earlier photo in the AAR. I go for broke and push past VL to see if I can capture as much as I can of the Heavy woods in the area. Lots hinge on next turn if I continue this way or not from a Soviet response in the area. So turn 4 will be a nail bitter when I open it up.
