I have again lost a combat report and this time it's really annoying as it was a devastating day for the IJN as our biplane torpedo bombers from Soerabaja have put over halve a dozen torps into three different IJN BBs running from Java.

First the Vindicators scored some 1000lb bomb hits

And then it was time for the biplanes to strike. Luck and bad luck lie close together and due to the single torp hit on a BB yesterday the whole TF was slowed down ending up in torpedo strike range. One hex movement more and they would have been safe. Talk about nuances again.

That sub was Dutch, but IIRC, it does not come with a great captain or experienced crew. For the US subs with MK 14 torps, many of the misses must be attributed to the torpedo problems- which included too great a depth for the setting and gyroscope issues. Things will improve as the torp dud rate reduces. By then the US subs will also have much more experience.

Have replaced all "bad" captains on any of my subs. None of the Dutch subs is commanded by a debile captain and the crews are also ok. And there hasn't been a single attack with MK-14 torps in the whole campaign yet as I use the USN fleet subs for transport duties only. Never use them before October 42 because all the click work you put into them is just not worth it. [:D]

lol, that double screenshot is really funny as the forum only allows one per post. When you upload a file it's always put at the end of the post and then you have to edit the post to put the screenshot to where you want it, in my case usually fitting the combat report. This time the "original" screenshot at the end of the post just stayed there.

rinse and repeat... the last days I've been waiting for Port Moresby's airfield turn into a level five to fly in the heavies for a strike on Rabaul which we have never attacked so far and Mundy pays for it again as he has ships in port the day after PM turned into an airfield big enough for the B-17s... this time we don't catch any carriers or battleships (on which we only scratched the paint) but a light cruiser squadron disbanded in port... especially nice to hit the CS which I always keep in Japan when playing as the Japanese as they are a must have CVL for me... this time Yubari was the only ship being able to shrug off 500lb bombs, the rest took heavy damage during the attack...

Rabaul is no safe anchorage anymore...

at least one or two light cruisers were probably sunk today but the air losses leave a question mark again as 2 Jakes destroyed must be coming from the light cruisers but where are 6 Pete as ops losses coming from? Pretty much the same as after the attack on the IJ carriers at Balikpapan...

weren't afraid of any fighters that could show up at Rabaul today and we had to attack the damaged shipping there again putting several more 500lb bombs in a training cruiser and two destroyers... there are no fighters and there's no flak fire but after two days we have nearly 30 damaged B-17 and it takes nearly 3 weeks to get them into operational state again...

xAKL Nanning may keep running into that micro-KB TF constantly because they are going to the same place. Each time they meet, they both flee back one hex, then resume their journey and meet again! Seems strange that the escort does not fire at least a few shots at Nanning - a slow xAKL can't be hard to hit.
