Chungking Burning! Guess when rotating bombers I musta not set the target correctly and the bombers went after the population. So sorry! Wonder if thats an effective way to go after Chinese supply? Next turn there will be no mistakes and resources will be hit.
My Burma airforce and the RAF Indian airforce exchange punches. I continue to come out ahead but wonder if in the long run this favors the Allies?

Kweilin&Lanchow captured
China continues to go well. Lanchow and Kweilin fall on the first attack with only slight resistance. Only Hengchow stands in the way of a totally open RR from Canton to Chengting. In the North only Sining remains defended by a three time defeated army consisting of four corps and some base forces. Once my guys rest alittle and advance to Sining the Northern Campaign will be over. Same goes for Hengchow, once the victorious Kweilin divisions rest for a couple of days.
For some reason, my Akyab Zero's decide to not escort the bomber strike to Diamond Harbor. The Hurricanes are not nice but its not as bad as it could of been.

Operation TigerHawk
The 5/23-5/24/42 turn is important only because a major naval offensive is launching.
Since the end of March 42, when RN Battleships defeated my badly coordinated surface TF's off Trimcomalee, a plan(TigerHawk) has been in the works to severly damage or destroy the Royal Navy through the application of superior naval air power. The loss of Formidable, Indomitable and Hermes will make any future Royal Navy deep penetration landing very difficult. If i can eliminate the British BB's, then with out American help, landings outside Allied aircover in the Burma area will be next to impossible. Air recon by Nells based at Akyab had told me that three BB's plus CL's were ported at Trimcomalee. Trimco will be the first raids objective. Once KB is in action, KB will recon Columbo and Madras looking for additional RN ships. Over the past several days, I have used Glen equipted subs to check the ports on India's East coast making sure there were no battleship sightings. I am real sure(75%) that the British BB's are in Trimcomalee!
At the time (of the plan) most of the IJN was somewhat run down through continuous action since the beginning of the war. Many ships had at least 5 damage and some were in the 10 range. The carriers were all in the same situation so everyone not already in home waters was ordered home for repairs and refit. Tankers and AO's filled with fuel headed East for Rangoon and Georgetown.
It took awhile but in mid-May, KB started to gather at Georgetown with Battleships and Heavy Cruisers going to Rangoon in case of a RN raid. During the morning of the 22nd, the last CV slid into Georgetown harbor joining four other CV's along with Hosho and Taiyo. Taiyo is carrying Shoho's Zero unit for extra CAP. The carriers are in two TF's in case any enemy a/c get through the CAP so only half of the CV's are exposed to any one strike.
The replenishment TF's left on the 21st, all combatants departed early morning of the 23rd. The rendezvous point for KB and the surface escort would be 120 miles East of Nicobar Island. I also FT'd some infantry into Nicobar Island to help explain my presence in case any of the force was spotted by Allied air search. No spotting of Japanese ships in these waters was noticed. Radio silence is being maintained and it is believed that the Brits don't know what is coming!

Operation TigerHawk Day 1
The plan was for the Fleet(several TF's) to run in at high speed to a point 240 miles SE of Trimcomalee and launch an all out airstrike. The Alf's and Jake's will start(hopefully) reconing Columbo and Trimco not untill the 26th, Nells will be checking out Madras on both days. The operation went as planned but the Brits do get some sighting reports on the 25th. On the 26th, the Brits get some nine sighting reports from landbased air(check out enclosed partial OP report). However, there is no Allied attacks on KB so they must be surprized or on anti-sub patrols?
I started to get worried watching the combat play for the 26th. Everytime the map changed over to the Bay of Bengal, I noticed a cloud over Trimcomalee(PLEASE, don't do this to me!) and KB was doing nothing. This will be not good if no airstrike is launched! But finally, the last action before land combat, 198 strike and fighter a/c fly to Trimco. Better yet, the Kate's are all dropping 800kg bombs, BANZAI!!! Of interest(and concern), only one battleship is seen and attacked.

Operation TigerHawk Day 2&3
The Nell recon of Madras on the 26th reported three battleships and some cruisers. Since the KB attack and recon on Trimcomalee failed to see any other BB's(not counting blown up Resolution), Yamaguchi decides to shift his air attacks to Madras and orders KB to 240 mile SE of the port. If the rest of the RN BB's are there, then they are trapped with no hope of escape unless American carriers are nearby.
The Brits do manage two large counter-strikes in the morning and they even get past the mega-cap but get no hits on the the battleship/cruiser escort. After that the enemy aircraft only arrive in penny packets and are easily dealt with by the CAP. 136 aircraft arrive over Madras and find no enemy CAP and three RN battleships receive moderate damage on the 27th.
A Rain cloud over KB in the AM of the 28th grounds my a/c. During the PM, the rain cloud goes away by KB gets distracted! Ed must of thought I was invading Trimcomalee so he sent what was left of the Trimco surface forces out 120 mile SE in an effort to intercept my non-existant invasion forces. Unfortunately, this minor force from Trimcomalee is spotted by KB so there is no raid on Madras during the 28th.
Akyab and Calcutta continue to exchange air strikes.

Operation TigerHawk Day 4&5
KB steps up the operations launching two raids each day on Madras. The AM strike each day is smaller and then the PM raids are normal sized.
The Kanko Daitai from damaged Shoho flies out to Taiyo from Rangoon to add some fire-power as losses are starting to rise. Zuikaku's Kanbaku Daitai goes to Rangoon to be reinforced by a Val Chutai that had been training on some Chinese on the other side of the Salween 120 miles East of Lashio. Some other Kate and Val Chutai are moving into the Burma area ready to reinforce KB Daitai's as they become depleted.

Operation TigerHawk after Day 5
The forces of TigerHawk has been at sea for eight days and there have been five days of offensive operations though a couple days have had some weather delays. So far, Resolution, Cornwall, Exeter, SS Sargo and PG Cyclamen have been officially sunk. Warspite has suffered 2x800kg and 14x250kg hits, Revenge 8x800kg and 8x250kg, and Royal Sovereign 3x800kg and 12x250kg. All three BB's have had multiple weapon systems destroyed including some main guns. Dauntless has also taken 3x250kg and Dorsetshire has suffered one 250kg. It would seem that including the earier Battle of Trimcomalee(two CV's and Hermes sunk), the RN has been severly damaged.
During this time KB has lost 10 Zero's, 18 VAl's and 30 Kate's. A couple of the Daitai have rotated through Rangoon absorbing 8-9 a/c Chutai. Some chutai have also been flown out to KB. Currently, KB's Air Army is maybe 10% understrength.
Since TigerHawk started, the RAF with some American help has resisted but not well. Most of my air losses has been to AAA and there have been NO hits on any ship directly involved in this op. So far the Allies have lost 32xHurricaneII's, 8xFulmar's, 4xP40B's(AVG), 3xKittyhawk's, 15xBlenheimIV's, 12xWellington's, 6xBeaufortVIX's, and 8xBeaufortI's. Many more Allied A/C have been damaged so I wonder what is the true condition of the AirForce defending India?

5/31-6/1/42, the Tiger rests!
Operation TigerHawk (Days 6&7) is taking two days off to rest the pilots from the strike Daitai's. The KB moves to 300 miles SE of Madras and the Val/Kate Daitai's are set to naval attack/rest in case the RN tries to run from Madras(they don't). The fighters are set to 40-60% CAP depending on how tired each Daitai was. We hope the Brits will continue to attack KB at this longer range. They do! Only show two of the larger raids, the rest(there were many) I took off the AAR since they were only 2-6 a/c at a time who are brushed off by the CAP never seeing a ship.
Burma and Southern India continue to exchange airstrikes though the Allies get grounded by bad weather.
I left the ASW activities in the AAR because it is pissing me off. Since we upgraded to 1.6(I think) and the new ASW routine, nothing has happened. Yes, there have been many many contacts and attacks but no hits. Alot of rattled sterns and the like. There have also been no hits by the Japanese and only one by the Allies(unescorted small AK) since the last upgrade. Not sure if this is the intended ASW fix. We have not upgraded since all patches since are Beta's only and we were reading about other problems with those Beta patches.

Operation TigerHawk Day 8&9
KB closes to 240 miles of Madras and continues the airstrikes. The RN battleships are being pounded, when will they sink? There must of been at least 10 RAF strikes on KB all mostly just a couple of a/c. Two raids did get close enough toattack a target.
In one of the raids on Madras, the combat report shows Kates attacking from both 9000feet(800KG bombs I presume) and 200 feet dropping torpedoes. No torp hits. Wonder what that means when the other times it is showing only 200feet torpedo drops and I am getting only 800KG hits. Guess this is the combat replay glitch? A real torpedo hit would be nice as that might finally sink one of those BB's.
During these two days, Royal Sovereign takes an additional 12x800kg bombs and Revenge takes 10 more 800kg'ers. These two BB's have got to be sinking, pleeeeese!

Operation TigerHawk Day 10&11
My KB sortie levels are starting to get low in case American CV's show up so one last two day raid. The British BB's have been pummeled but still refuse to sink. KB is ordered to close to 180 miles and launch, maybe we will get some true torpedo dropping Kates and finish off these BB's! The Vals are ordered to attack the Madras airfields in an effort to blunt the Allied counterstrikes since we are moving in closer. Noticed that Yanami is a level 2 airfield and there is an a/c icon telling me something is there. A two CA TF is ordered to bombard to help protect KB's right flank.
Air raids from Madras contain the AVG as escorts, over two days 20 are splashed. Many Allied raids are launched with only a couple getting through the CAP to see a target. Over the two days, some 20xP40B's, 15xBFortVIX's, 10xVildebeest's, 9xKittyhawk's, 5xBlenheimIV's, 5xFulmar's, 4xBFortI's and 4xHuricaneII's are destroyed to all reasons. KB loses 18xKate's, 4xVals and 6xZero's along with landbased 8xZero's and 8xSally's. Over the two days, the Allies lose 80 a/c while the Japanese have 57 destroyed.
Recon the day before reported a cruiser and some DD's at Diamond Harbor so I ordered my Akyab based Sally's to hit the port in case the report was true. Bingo![:D]

Bingo![:D]

Operation TigerHawk Day 12
The Airgroups of KB have become somewhat reduced and are fatigued. Time to pull back, restock and rest after nearly 11 days of constant action. As a parting gift, the Yamato will lead a bombardment group onto Madras and deposit some valuable Japanese scrap metal. I also hope that an 18.1 inch shell or two may finish off one of those RN BB's that are refusing to sink from multiple 800kg bomb hits. KB will move 300 miles SE and provide LR-CAP over the bombardment force as they lay waste to the airfields and port of Madras. The Bombardment will mark the end of Operation TigerHawk.
TigerHawk is considered a success as countless RN combatants have been sunk or severly damaged, the Eastern Fleet is in name only! As a by-product to TigerHawk, the RAF has also been badly damaged losing hundreds of combat aircraft. During the Operation, KB lost close to a third of its strike aircraft but I have several Chutai of Val's and Kate's standing by at Rangoon ready to replenish the KB Daitai's that had already not been replenished.
The RN had a small surface force at Diamond Harbor for refit or something. I don't know, but only 240 miles from a major Japanese base(Akyab) does not seem to be a safe place. Highly experienced Sally's and Helen's from Akyab are enjoying the opportunity to rain bombs on docked warships!

6 Months of War
It has now been six months since the Americans forced the Japanese Empire into war with their illegal embargo of oil&resource exports and the freezing of Japanese assets in the US. After four months, the oil/resource centers in the DEI were all captured and large convoys established for the long run back to the homelands.
I am going to show several screen shots of the game after six months to help explain the situation.
Aircraft losses are just short of two to one in favor of the Japanese. To me, Japanese a/c losses are average and in general, my air units are in good shape. I think mostly because of the heavy reinforcement of Commonwealth forces to Burma, Allied ground losses seem high.
Right now I have auto victory but five more months is a long time for things to go sour!

RE: 6 Months of War
Allied ship losses.
Not seen in the screen shot as sunk is Danae, Durban, Glasgow, Ceres, Capetown, Columbo, Marblehead and Boise. The USN has lost 6 modern DD's and 13 four stackers. Commonwealth 12 DD's and the Dutch 9DD's. 10xsubs(all makes), 2xAR's, 1xAS, 2xAV's, 1xAD, 2xDMS's, 7xMSW's, 2xPC's, 3xPG's, 19xPT's, 6xAP's, 44xAK's, 1xTK and 2xML's.
Three RN battleships and two RN DD's have been horribly damaged over the last week. I think the DD's will be sunk soon and if the BB's never sink, they may be out of the war for years. Ed told me that they had 99 sys damage but no fire or flotation damage. With them sitting in only a level 6 port(Madras) with no repair dock, they will not be repairing very quickly if at all. Just wish I could get the points for what I have done!!![:@] Who knows, if he tries moving them they could just sink at sea?
OK, I have not checked to see what the potential capacity of the RN is, but I think it is mostly destroyed as far as its Surface combat and air combat capabilities. I think another carrier is do soon but what will it do by its self?
The Americans on the other hand are intact as far as its combat abilities are concerned. The loss of Lexington and Colorado hurt early on. But now they have four CV's and Wasp coming soon. BB's and CA's are nealy at full strength along with DD's. The only problem is projecting that power as his Auxiliaries have taken a beating with the loss of two AR's and an AD. Losing 44 AK's didn't help either but that can be overcome. I expect his first effort onto CAnton Island or the Gilbert/Marshall Island groups as they are closer to Pearl. We shall see!

RE: 6 Months of War
Japanese ship losses.
Not seen in the screen shot are an additional 17xDD's making a total of 24 DD'ss sunk. Also 2xAPD's, 9xMSW's, 2xPG's, 4xPC's, only 3xSS's, 1xTK, 7xAK's and 11xAP's.
As you can see, my surface forces have takin a beating which was a reason I sent KB after the Royal Navy in the Bay of Bengal. I now hopefully face a one front war with the American fleet so maybe have a chance in the long run.
My Carrier fleet is intact with only Shoho still repairing. Absorbing land based Zero, VAl and Kate Chutai's, my carrier Daitai's are at full strength with only a minor loss in experience. The "Mogami" aircraft replacement and training program works great. Thanks Mogami!!![&o][&o][&o]
The sub war for both sides is a disapointment. Since we upgraded to version 1.604, nothing has happened with either sides silent service. Some ASW attacks but no sinkings, and I think only one sub attack that damaged an empty IJN AK. Not that I want to lose subs or my TK's and AK's, but I hope version 1.8 fixes this inaction in the sub war and makes thing more realistic!

Your Allied opponent is "screwed"![:D] Man, look at the points![X(] In my PBEM it is almost a year worth of play (late Nov 42) and the points are roughly 14000 for Japan and 11000 for Allies. I take it this is a stock game with a stock map, otherwise the Allies may as well just ignore Canton Island.

RE: 6 Months of War
Yes, stock map and game starting Dec 8th with the number 16 scenerio. I think his decision to reinforce Burma and Rangoon cost him some serious Army loss points!

RE: 6 Months of War
A look at the most active theatre in the game, Burma/South India(map show situation 6/8/42). Rangoon was taken March 18th with a massive surrender of British and Indian troops. Since then there has been a medium effort air war with the RAF. Lately that has escalated as the IJA landbased air has efforted to support the activities of KB and its raid on the Royal Navy(TigerHawk). The RAF has been heavily attritioned by both the landbased raids and by TigerHawk, especially over the last two weeks. I also wonder about the Allied ground strength in India considering the massive Commonwealth causualties in Burma?
TigerHawk is actually part of a larger operation called TigerClaw. TigerHawk was the first phase, the elimination of the RN and severly attrition what ever parts of the RAF that cared to get in the way. Mission accomplished! Phase two of TigerClaw is Operation TigerWalk, a multi division landing in Southern India. Cannot get into much detail now but landings will commence June 17 at Diamond Harbor with a feint to Chanpur. There will also be a blind airborne landing on Jamshedpur with elements of the Yokosuka 3rd SNLF Para. The airborne mission is seizing the airfield for air-lifted reinforcements and to slow down any Commonwealth reinforcements arriving from SEastern India from where I hope some ground units were lured to the Madras area by the activities of TigerHawk. If Jamshedpur is defended by the Brits, it will not be a disaster for the operation as I have brought plenty of ground units.
I also have the 5th Division supported by the 1st Tank Rgt and the 5th Engineer Rgt heading to Ledo in order to reinforce the Imperial Guards A Rgt. This was also designed to lure Commonwealth formations away from the coast and it is working as over the last 6 days, two new Infantry Brigades have arrived supporting the British position.
This note was written before the initation of TigerWalk(it is now 6/20 in our game) so no big secrets are being given away.

RE: 6 Months of War
China, the second most active front as seen on 6/8/42. As a reminder to the readers we started action in China 3 months into the war as a experiment to slow things down. Thinking the Chinese will get another level of fort building in and gain some experience. No ground movement or attacks in China by both sides and no airstrikes by both sides during this three month truce. After the three months, war as normal!
Speaking as the Japanese player, this was not an effective "house rule" so more or different ones will be needed in order to curb unrealistic Japanese advances. Not agreed to but something I have done is no units facing the Russians could move into China unless they paid to change HQ's. I have moved a Division along with some combat engineers and Tank Rgt's into China this way. Though, I have reinforced China with several "Southern Army" air and ground units without changing their HQ's. Maybe an extra rule requiring anyone operating in China be under the China HQ could be the next "house rule" for our next game?
As you can see from the map, the Japanese have done well even with the late start. Only Hengchow is left to be taken in order to open up the railroad. North of Sian, only Sining is left defended by four or five Chinese Corps that have already been defeated four times during their long retreat from Yenen. Along with airbase attacks I have been also bombing Chinese resources in Chungking to help reduce Chinese supply. There have been a few Chinese counter-attacks but nothing major and most have ended in major losses to the attacking Chinese!

For security reasons I am not showing a map of the South/Central Pacific. Port Moresby, Gili Gili, Thursday Island, Merauke, New Caledonia, Efate, Luganville, Baker Island and Canton Island was as far as I went past the historical perimeter. Since the Americans futile effort to retake Wake Island in mid-March, all has been quiet in the South/Central Pacific.
With the recent destruction of the British Eastern Fleet, it is somewhere in this area that I expect Ed to try to get some points back in this game. Canton Island is the most exposed and I have a medium sized garrison defending which will hopefully slow the invaders down for several days. Ed could also try to bypass and hope for weaker defences in the Gilberts. We shall see?
