im not 100% sure you can make it. You took pearl, ok that's good, it screws the US up a bit, if the US want to come back they'll have to retake pearl, there is no practical way they can get their battlefleet back from the west coast unless they retake it first. That's ok. However, in the meantime he's giving you the chinese, dutch, and british to play with. (he hasn't decided to activate the french yet has he?) If im not mistaken like a month there will arrive a very big british fleet. My personal opinion is that you might be able to hold them off, and I don't think you'll lose any ground. HOWEVER, I also don't think you'll manage much more than a 2-3 ship loss ratio (in favor of the allies). This will let the americans come back to pearl, where you will have pretty much no fleet left to defend. Now the way you COULD win this is VPs. The garrison at manilla must fall 100%. If they escape, you could almost consider the war lost...

good luck I'm cheering for you!

Aye i'm realizing that quickly :). Thats why there is an 100% effort to knock him out of Manilla. And i'm going to drop 1500 mines in manilla in a few turns. So there will be 900+ mines in bataan and then 1500 mines in manilla. My bc's that were at 40+ damage are down to 19 now so in a few weeks i hope to have some semblence of a combat fleet ready to shell manilla.

In another stroke of good news i found one bomber unit that i started with. It was dropped off in manilla this morning 8 planes but they will bomb from bataan to manilla it will eat supply. I have to dislodge him. I'm taking higher loses but i know he can't keep it up forever.

Once manilla falls i have no operational plans anyway besides reinforcing everywhere. It's too far in to attempt to take HK Or Shanghai or vladivostok. So i will hold. If i can gut him on his attempts to take it back then i can get some nice VPs there. Even if i lose this game it was a learning experience. BUt i'm not ready to put this to bed only 3 months into the war. We have 3 years and 6 months left at least in this baby thats a long time.

Does anyone think i should attempt other offensive operations when i am done?

Once i took manilla i planned to wrap up the rest of the islands in the Philliphines when i got the chance. But maybe i'll just hold the luzon & southern island and make them hard to crack.

For some reason i'm not sure of my one MSW went into Manila and got itself blown to hell.
Other then that we have another 1300 mines coming into manilla soon. I'm increasing his casualties. I changed every leader to make sure they are high in land experience and hopefully we can crack this nut.

Shelling of Manilla Continues

A deliberate attack is scheduled for tomorrow. THe units are all less then 50% fatigue and mostly in the 20-30 range for Disruption. I'm not going to breatk these guys like i did with the boys at Pearl. Btw pearl became a level 8 harbor. That will be a great asset when he comes to take it back.

Well a turn ago i launched a shock attack 6000+ to his 1200 loses. For now i'm bombarding. NOw i'm getting 400+ kills per round though. Is that good for bombard? previously to now it was always 150 or so. I'm taking more kills as a plus :)

He sent in the minesweepers but i hit one DD with a mine :) That makes it worth it.
This turn the 6th CST will unload at bataan with 6 16 INCH guns :) This time past bataan might not be so easy. Before it was just 4 INCH guns they had to run by but now the 16 inch guns are going to throw him for a loop i hope :) Unless he engages the fleet and sinks them all anyway lol.

Well one of my subs got toasted today but i think it can make it back to port.
85+ Flt damage. A good ground attack at Manilla today. ALso i talked to another jap player and he told me to bring in an area army. Since southern army is at PH i have put Burma area army on transports heading to the PI. In other news i have a base force in every important PI coastal hex now. I might as well start building up my forts while i wait for this combat to end.

Manilla moves closer to defeat

Post by bwheatley »

I can feel manilla cracking under the pressure of the 250k Men at manilla.
Also he tried to get another taskforce through to manilla which suffered horrible casulties. He probably dropped some more supply off.

But with 7 Damaged DD's making it through he will either drydock them or they will be destroyed when they try to leave. Also if he puts them there i will destroy them when manilla finally falls.

I should keep up the assault no?

RE: Manilla about to fall?

Post by bwheatley »

I skipped a few days of shock attacks i guess he got supply again. But i tore up alot of his ships with my guns. He sent some Bb's through bataan and they tore up my guns at bataan so i'm moving the 2nd & 3rd CD RGts to bataan that will put a total of 24 16 inch guns on the base when they are fully operational not to mention alot of 12 inch guns as well. I have also been fortifying formosa and davoo with a weak fleet i am trying tomake any attacks he tries costly. I have a few divisions in reserve on formosa so if he tried something stupid there i could get some points by wittling him down.

RE: Manilla about to fall?

Post by bwheatley »

We have spotted a battle fleet 1 hex off bataan. I put some 3 hex Float planes on bataan. Hopefully they try to come through again i have almost 2000 mines in bataan now and still 800 in Manilla. I have 3 divisions offloading in formosa and 2 offloading in Davao tomorrow. I spootted a fleet heading south and i havent seen it pop up again yes so i'm wondering where its going.

In a week i will have the new CD guns at bataan to help reinforce the blockade of manilla.

Any suggestions?

He's being sneaky i spotted a few DD's & CA's a few hexes north of PI about under TAKAO i'm sending 4CL 4DD & 4DD to intercept at night. IF he thinks hes going for takao i just unloaded a CD unit there :) it should rip through any ships nicely and at least make it costly and i have 3 divisions 2 days out from takao too :)

congratulations. i am always rooting for the japs in this or war in the pacific. Keep it up at manilla!

ps: what does your battlefleet look like? I'm kind of anxious for you a very large british fleet should arrive from europe in like 20 days...

Landings on North PI

Post by bwheatley »

Well billy landed 3 units probably divisions between manilla and naga. I don't think i like The idea of someone landing units on a non base hex. Whats the point of having defenses if hes just going to land at a non base or even a none beach hex. I think i'll ask that to be a house rule in any game i play from now on. I have 2 divisions in naga that are goign to come get hime but thats still cheesy.

I don't like it.
