RE: Phyrric victory?
ALLIED COMMANDER UPDATE:
I kept a group of transports at Iwo Jima too long, trying to unload the last batch of C-rations and AA ammo for the inevitable Japanese counterstrike. The Japanese fleet launched an admirable attack, savaging those task forces. Unfortunately 18 ships were sunk and many damaged,. The KB is a bit west of Marcus Island and SE of Iwo Jima, and hordes of subs are closing in. Unfortunately many sub minefields laid in anticipation of the KB's return have already dissipated in the Pacific tides.
Meanwhile India & Pakistan contribute more troops to this global effort, as forces from all parts of the globe converge on the Imperial Empire at every front...
The question is, can the KB defend Iwo Jima and the mainland, the Gilbert Islands near Makin, the SRA near Darwin, and stop a British offensive in Burma?

RE: Phyrric victory?
-The Death Star is approaching the imperial capital. Another unfortunate convoy that was close to KB was decimated. Enemy losses in the Iwo Jima campaign now are estimated in 30-40 ships, including 7 destroyers.

Allied offensive
-A general allied offensive is taking place in multiple fronts. Now I will place a brief on what is happening in each of them
1-Central Pacific: No enemy action. Makin was probably only a bait to allow for the invasion of Iwo Jima. It´s hard to know if the enemy has further intentions in the area.
2-Iwo Jima and Marcus Islands: The arrival of KB and Navy LBA changed the balance of power in this front. Intel reports the loss of no less than 50 USN ships (including at least 10 destroyers) in the last 3 days. A few more ships are expected to sink as result of battle damage inflicted today
3-New Guinea: The enemy took Salamaua. No resistance found.
4-Burma: A massive enemy raid over Rangoon attempted to break the backbone of Japanese airpower there. First round had inconclusive results. Each side lost about 65 planes. We got a small advantage in the air (64 vs 57 planes lost), but 8 Ki-21´s were destroyed in the ground. The attempt to capture Mandalay failed, up to now....
5-China: Nanning will likely fall in the next week, but the enemy will pay a heavy price for success

Allied forces CAPTURE Salamaua base !!!

RE: Allied offensive
-The second day of air offensive against Rangoon resulted in a clear Japanese victory (43 vs 24 planes lost), but only because two Zero Daitais were sent to Burma. JAAF aircrews are tolding that their fighters are no match to to better armed and armored P-40´s. IJAAF HQ in Rangoon requested at least one Tojo Sentai to boost Burma air defenses. Air forces analysts believe that neither side is able to keep the current level of operations over Burma. In the homeland, it´s all quiet. The Iwo Jima campaign will soon enter a new phase.

RE: Nanning falls....
ALLIED COMMANDER, SEPTEMBER 1942:
Here's a few thoughts about the conduct of various forces in our game so far.
Positives:
Beaufort Level Bomber: In Nik's mod, while carrying torpedoes on Naval attack, the Beaufort is arguably the best anti-ship plane the Allies have.
Chinese Infantry: If you mass enough of them, the Chinese nationalists can make a dent in the Japanese army. "Never start a land war in Asia!" as they say, and the Chinese masses are there to remind the Japanese player to be on guard in Manchukuo and the coastal regions. Nanning has fallen recently and Alexandre is either reinforcing the port city of Pakhoi or evacuating his troops right now. Either way the Chinese give a solid contribution to the war effort.
C-47 Dakota: Arguably the most valuable piece of equipment in the whole game. Quite often you can get the heavy infantry in for a fight, but when you need to dispatch Aviation support or other troops and supplies immediately, these air transports can save the day and even a region.
Disappointments:
Mines-- I've laid hundreds of mines with my subs at key locations with little effect. They are probably not worth my time and effort and may be more of a psychological deterrent to the enemy. Though transport ships can be vulnerable to them, so perhaps mines are best laid defensively and are close to a waste of time offensively.
US air power: Still weak in late 1942. The Japanese Zero and its well trained pilot still dominates, and I'm losing planes at twice the rate of Alexandre. Hopefully I can assemble enough mass to gain superiority in key sectors and let the American industrial juggernaut make up for my mistakes so far. I have a mass of bombers at Port Moresby, but are they really making a difference pounding Japanese jungle units that are starving and wasting away from malaria? Also, without enough long range fighters, is an early bombing campaign of the Japanese mainland viable?
Ok that's all for now. More to come. Hopefully Nikademus you are reading this and assessing the Mod- but so far the Mod is great and very realistic!!!

RE: Nanning falls....
A convoy battle is underway in Nanning. Japanese ships are coming from Haiphong and then returning. At least two AP sunk by Beauforts flying from Nanning, but the IJAAF attacked the base destroying 11 planes in the ground and shooting down 5 Hurricanes, losing one Oscar and 3 bombers. The purpose of Japanese naval activity in the area is unkown to the enemy, according to this recently intercepted message

We'll see how the PT Boats survive the IJN "Iwo Express." I hope they do
survive! Can't tell if you are putting more troops into Pakhoi or pulling

RE: Nanning falls....
-The air battle over Nanning Haiphong is becoming more intense. The enemy brought some P-40´s to help the Hurricanes and restored the air balance. His fighters shot down 27 of our planes against 22 losses, however, the enemy lost more 8 planes in the ground, so the day action resulted in a draw. One Japanese ship was sunk in Haiphong

RE: Nanning falls....
ALLIED COMMANDER UPDATE, LATE SEPTEMBER, 1942
Looks like the Chinese will have a port on the Pacific ocean, as Chiang Kai-Shek's armies pour from Nanning into Pakhoi. Japanese transports desparately try to evacuate the bravely fleeing Imperial troops before the Chinese get their revenge. Soon American submarines will be able to use Pakhoi as a wolfpack base for operations against Japanese convoys in the South China Sea.
Attrition in the air war continues, hopefully the recent ratio of 1-1 losses will continue and control of the air will gradually cede to the Allies. Meanwhile American ships unload massive quantities of sunbathing lotion and crates of beer to bored US Marines diggin in on Iwo Jima...

RE: Nanning falls....
-IJN annouced that two infantry brigades were evacuated from Pakhoi. The enemy suffered heavy losses in their useless attempt to prevent us from achieving our objective. The last bombardment round on Iwo Jima was a half success. Four PT boats were sunk but one of our DD´s hit one of our own mines....[&:]

RE: Nanning falls....
...in all fairness, i think during the Iwo Jima bombardment run that the destroyer in question hit an American mine. I laid a zillion of them during the invasion in anticipation of an unfriendly return of Japanese forces...
p.s. NIMITZ TO JAPANESE COMMANDER: "We commend you on your successful evacuation of two infantry brigades from Pakhoi. May we wish you success on many more such evacuations, might we mention Mandalay as a potential site for future successes?"

-Unfortunately, one base force in Pakhoi was anihilated before the Tokyo express could evacuate it. Enemy troops disembarked in Namlea. Our Nells attacked the enemy ships, sinking one of them and damaging two warships
