Consolidation seems like your best bet Andy. Give your troops some time to rest and relax. I know you feel under the gun time wise but rushing just leads to problems and slows you down later. Best to be causious till your carrier airgroups are reformed and ready.

I'd second that. You've done well considering the mess you took over and trying to keep to some historical timetable is not going to help you -- wosrt-case you commit too early and set yourself back by months. A good 4E bombing campaign can really clear the way for any invasions and you do have a fair number of nuisance places in the rear to clear up. The interference with your convoys has got to be annoying.

It is and yes I agree consolidation is required.

Bombers will keep my rear areas secure but before I leap forward again I am planning on taking AT LEAST 4 Bases

Noemfoor
Amboina
Macasser
Banja....

All of these operations will be conducted by 8th US Army

14th Corps will get a reinforcment Division on Noemfoor to help secure it (6th US Div) and a second Bde of Amercal and a Bn of Marine Raiders
Amboina will be attacked by 1st Marines
Macasser will be attacked by 3rd Marines
Banja will be assaulted by 3rd Corps

With these bases under control I will have a broader base for operations to come.

In reseve I will keep 11th Airborne Div and some Armour ready to go where needed

2 other Marine Raider Bns and will conduct FT Recon missions up the West Coast of Borneo supported by small parachute recon units

PZB launches yet another light surface raid on a convoy moving towards Borneo with Seabees and other support troops.

I have surged a DD Sqn out of Balikapan with orders to rendebvous with the convoy tonight although I dount he will try again now that he knows I am ready for him

Do you know where he is launching these raids from? If you do i sugest sending a BB or 2 and hitting his light ships in port should slow down those annoying raids some

He is launching them from the heart of the PI to go in after them would take a multi carrier TF to cover my ships
 
All I can do for now is cover the convoys with DD Sqns and take my lumps.
 
After I take Amboina and macasser I will send all my Convoys out of Darwin via thew Western route

Welll another interesting turn the highlights are below

My scrambled DD Sqn closed on the convoy in time to intercept an IJN TF

Losses were about even but the convoy wiull get through.

I have 5 CVE's in the TF and they picked off a CL in the daylight phase as well.

We have a problem Kamikazes seem to be targetting PT Boats - now this issue I have some sympathy with.

You can see phase 1 of my plan in action 8 B29 Gps and about 4 of B24J's and other B25 Sqns are going to once and for all close down the AF's in Northern NG.
 
400 B29's will ruin anyones day.

I am pleased that the Fletcher Sqn caught up with the Japanese today I need the engineers that convoy is carrying badly to make Borneo fully operational.
 
I have started loading 6th US Div and the Bde of Amercal for Noemfootr at Wasile I will send them both in escorted by a surface and CVE TF. This is it operation cleanup.
 
I will also send Maryland back to yard hands at the same time in an escort TF.

On the 3rd Wave 41 Bombers penetrated my CAP all Betties and got 1 hit the massed AA of 45 DD's in harbour plus the TF loading plus about 4 AA regts and actually only 8 BaseForces did a good job.
 
CAP was pretty inneffective after the 2nd Wave

I have to admit PZB caught me on this one I did not expect a mass attack on Wasile.
 
Had he came in in more strength with a few more fighters on the later raids and perhaps some sally kamikazes I hate to say it but that could have been very very nasty most of my capital ships have been withdrawn but I have 3 or 4 CVE's covering the amphibs and I could have lost them all

OK I have given up on NOemfoor a 4 more Brigades go in to reinforce tommorrow after they are unloaded I will consider another attack.

Consolidation is the name of the game for now I dont like it but it is needed.

Sure seems to me that you could be putting a bigger hurt on some of his bases if you'd not seemingly adhere to such high altitudes for bombing with your medium bombers especially.  Banjarmasin doesn't seem to have much for flak nor does Noeremfoor.  Smack him hard from 1000 ft.  Even the heavies would go in at low altitude if the defenses were known to be weak.

I could go lower but the morale hit is nasty and I want to keep my bombers in good shape in case surface raiders come in these bomber pilots are 80+ XP now so anything that moves they will hit IF they launch.
 
B29's on principal I wont drop below 10k
 
The TBM's especially are on high altitude because those are 25xp - 40xp pilots off of the CVR's on 50% naval search/naval attack with a secondary on port.
