Finally our team is done. Maybe now people here can realize that the reason Norway was rather good in -94 and -98 was due to the players we had at the time, and that for the moment we really suck and do not belong in any championship.

Sorry to heat that - yes for a time Norway really punched above their weight - as England knows to its cost....

Not really if you look at the team we had.
Torstvedt in goal - Tottenham
Grodås in goal - Chelsea/Tottenham/Schalke04
Bratseth in defence - Werder Bremen "legend"
Bjørnebye in defence - Liverpool
Berg in defence - Blackburn/Man.Utd
Johnsen in defence - Man.Utd
Leonardsen in the middle - Liverpool/Wimbledon/Tottenham/Aston Villa
Bohinen in the middle - Nott.Forest/Blackburn/Derby
Mykland in the middle - Panathinaikos/1860 München/FC København
Solskjær up top - Man.Utd "legend"
Flo up top - Chelsea/Rangers/Sunderland/Siena/Leeds

So, actually we did not really over perform as we had a very solid team at the time (the players above played regularly for their sides) , it was just that no one really understood that fact since we had been ranked rather low in the FIFA system up to that point.
Luckily it now seems we have a new "golden generation" in our U21 lads [:)]

I was talking about Norway as a nation punching above their weight - not the individual players.

BTW: Erik the Viking was a White Hart Lane the other day for the Dinamo Tblisi game and was interviewed at half time. Got a great reception from the Tottenham faithful.

Well I was a nervous wreck, 1 goal up and a draw would not suffice. We had to win. Maybe it's living in Germany with all we always get to the next round mentality, just gets on my nerves. I wish that they would really get smashed, but they do have a good goalie and strikers that make up for their bad defense.

At least I get to watch some Brazil 2014 next year as an England fan.

Sweden scored 7 goals in our two games against Germany. But Germany made 9 goals in those two games and could have made more.

Germany should be concerned with their weak defence because they will encounter teams stronger than Sweden and then they might not score enough to compensate for the goals they concede.

I would have preferred England. That would have been fun match to watch.

But since that is not going to happen then I am glad as long as we avoid Portugal. If I have to pick one then I would select Ukraine because I am still a bit annoyed with our performance against them in the Euro 2012 match.

I just hope Portugal fails to qualify. That should increase England's chances by some 200% [:D]

Well that draw could have worked out better [&:]

terje439 - it doesn't matter what I do and don't want - we'll probably lose in a penalty shoot out anyway.... it would be rude not to (unless of course we get spanked by the Germans first [;)].

So what do peeps make of Sir Alex Ferguson's comments about Gerard and Henderson? Has he gone too far - with Henderson in particular?

IMO, he's a bitter old man who I always thought was a bit of a **** with double standards (don't all managers) and seemed to spend half his life acting like a spoilt child and the other half generally being unpleasant. Of course, I could be wrong. But I'm not.

Having said that, I haven't really read what his actual comments were, something about Henderson running a bit weird? In any case, he's just trying to (succeeding in) annoy the Scousers. If he was half the manager everyone says he is then he'd have been able to actually win the Champions League more than he did and actually build a midfield. He was still using Ryan Giggs in the first team, and he's older than the aeroplanes I work on!

Again, this is my opinion: Rafa Benitez is a far better manager than Red Nose was. I'd even say Arsene Wenger is, I don't think Fergie could have kept Man Utd competitive given the same restraints Arsenal have been under for the past few years.

I do not think it is fair to claim that Ferguson is not a good manager, you do not win PL that many times with a subpar manager. He IS however bitter and grumpy, and always has been imo. I also feel that he had a tendency to whine a lot, and almost expect that his team should be treated differently than the rest by the FA.
I agree however that Wenger is a better manager, imo the best in PL. Rafa....well, his main downfall imo is his inability to make the correct purchases, and to build on what he had, so he ranks below Ferguson with me.

2-1 tonight against FC Sherriff and that is sufficient to take us into the knock-out stages [:)]

Performances of one or two players is still a concern, but Erik Lamela looked like a decent player for the first time this season which is good.

Well done too to Jermain Defoe on beating Martin Chivers European goalscoring record for the Spurs.
