Post by Sneer »

my air losses are so high that i think my planes are from paper
allied AA fire is a horror
10/22/43
enemy CV - counted 5 - 8 hexes west of Bali [X(][X(][X(]
alert !!!
will java be invaded ???
i feel a litlle bit out of position
question what will be a target of enemy planes - industry ? i doubt
he will try to set 100% cap and eat my planes but this trick was already used once - i will wait for him to attack my airfields

it is moment one could expect any aggressive movement in CEN PAC

next day
looks like i did not switch my air units
100 planes in 2 waves moved against allied carriers and all of them were shot down - not a very painfull as whole escort was green - no reason to train heavily zeros

but enemy surprise factor is gone and within days i will be able to strike hard back not counting signal to my navy
Raverdave broke first and revealed his carriers first
we will see what next

It was nothing more than a raid....I was looking to sink some og the 60+ transports in Soerabaja port that my intel said were supposed to be there.....guess what....the place was empty.  So splashing 100+ jap bombers and fighters is a good second prize.  Now where are his CVs??????????[:)]

another CV meeting and victory for empire!

Post by Sneer »

I try to be always a step ahead of my enemies and managed it again
Raverdave tried to hunt my BBs on their way to soerabaya
he positioned himself 2 hexes west of Raba and my carriers put shield over BBs 2 hexes east of Raba
as enemy TF were big they moved in uncoordinated way
all attacking planes besides 1 avenger were stopped 100 hellcats shot down
overall
330:150 for Japan
again great victory !!!
pity i'm behind islands chain so i will not make use of this battle
Raverdave must think again about his counterattack plans
Japan is not a tyrrany -we can sit dow to table and negotiate peace - there is no need for americans to die for chinase

Very impressive: Zekes usually have a harder time with Hellcats and especially with Corsairs. There's still a lot of fight in the Empire!
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

10/25/43
it is rare in PBEM and gives me a kind of moral satisfaction
enemy CV TFs run away at full speed from Japanese forces in late 43
i did not expect that when this game started
somehow we keep balance even so late in game
pity there was no payback for last allied attacks but my forces were slower and we ended at 6 hexes range from each other
my 2 small uncoordinated LBA attacks were slaughtered as expected
looks like this time allies will get home in one piece
it was 5 th carrier battle in this game if my memory serves good
and it was also first one where no blow to ship was delivered
One would expect that with hellcats and corsairs allieds will be more aggressive

at this moment the only retaken place is Thursday Isl which I found not worthy counterattacking so late in PBEM
CEN PAC is still quiet - IRL Gilberts were played at this moment

The A2A strikes again... such a massive strike with high exp pilots should have sunk many ships and here all you get is the extinction of your KB airforce...

...considering allied TFs lost 40% of their fighters before attack and certainly were weak .......
sooner or later sb will post this result in main forum and after big debate nothing will change

453 planes in one group - sth like this is like a dream
almost all destroyed in A2A phase[8|]

this is just nonsense... You played it perfectly, I don't see how you could have done it better... Very frustrating... And Raver must be soOooooooooooooooo relieved, I bet when he saw the 450 planes grouped strike he must have gasped...

Ouch!
I was tempted to post you a tip to send all out, I mean all your CAP fighters for escort, but I didn't think that you would catch his CVs anymore. It would have been so nice to see even one allied CV sink...

it was high risk action and I knew that i will loose my best pilots
but I expected few dozens of attack planes hurting enemy carriers
my expected result was 1-2 cv sunk and next 2-3 damaged
i decided it is worth costs
if i couldn't break enemy at this moment when he lost almost half of cap ....and after many of his carriers were sunk ...
question : how else could be it played
LBA is inefficient against highly capped carrier forces - we saw it in PZB AAR and I saw it too in last few turns
there is little chance to have big strike and i don't remember seeing 450+ LBA strike on carriers in any AAR in last 2 years
so it was best idea to me to set a trap in which allied loose part of fighters due to lba or my shield and try to break in with all my forces available - I set 30% cap and rest on escort in one desperate attack ....
almost all my old units from 6 fleet carriers remembering 42 were above 80 exp
rest 70+.
carriers were slightly overloaded with additional planes so nice striking force was present

now i need to get out of there - i'm 3 days full speed steaming from soerabaya ( 8 hexes NW of broome ) and I'm sure Raverdave will go after me - he must have some attack planes not destroyed

I have nice reserves so KB will have soon it's striking abilities back / however at lower exp
question is what to do with them next [8|]

I imagine that the bulk of the losses came from the ship AAA. If not, each defending CAP fighter shot down an average of 2 planes -- unbelievable.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

out of 590 planes 530 were shot in A2A and 60 by flak
it means that each defending fighter shot on average almost 3 planes

Get used to limiting your strikes from land with Georges (crappy range, but can hold their own). Franks rule, but the P-51 comes online about the same time - so you're dead meat again at that point.

I too, was hopefull when the M5 series arrived for the IJN, and like you got slaughtered at max range. The carriers got away, but were useless for months until I could restock pilots. Even then, movement was limited to where the Allied carriers were not.
KB is a raiding force only in the stock game after Hellcats arrive.

Now you've got the true test of character - outlasting an opponent when your victories consist of not getting completely blown away...

i know Blurking
to some extent i was ready for such beating
i had no faith in zekes however they defended me nicely few days ago
I only tried to use opportunity that allied lost already 8 cariers and I managed to destroy almost half of allied cap few days ago-
otherwise I would not pursuit
it was probaly last opportunity to stand against enemy cariers in open battle
i have experienced naval fighter groups and reserve DB & TB units so I should be ready within 2-3 weeks however I will be little weakened
as for difficult times
after this battle number of my planes lost is bigger than allied , score is still below 4:1 , no major base is lost
perimeter is strong and within a month first inf divisions from china will reach east india and burma coast
merchant fleet without losses, Helens are 90+ exp so they will keep subs away of my shipping lines , navy almost without losses
i think it is still much better than I expected when I started this PBEM
43 is almost finished and I know that tide turned few months ago
I think that we will reach 45 easily.

One thing I will say re: air models is that I'm currently running an AI vs AI game under RHS EOS. Now, obviously, we need to make allowances for the AI being lobotomised but even in mid-43 I am seeing moderately escorted Zeke strikes getting quite a few leakers through and the occasional torpedo or bomb strike.

In late 42 to early 43 Japanese planes seem to get quite a few leakers through and 3 Allied CVs and 4 or 5 CVEs were sunk at no more than 1:1 loss rate in the air. From late 43 onwards the loss rate has favoured the Allies but even still 1 CV has been sunk and another CV has been badly damaged. So far it looks fairly encouraging compared to the kind of idiocy we are seeing in stock games of this stage.
John Dillworth: "I had GreyJoy check my spelling and he said it was fine."
Well, that's that settled then.
