War in the East Q&A

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Is this bug been fixed as of yet or is it a WAD?

"Do not give armies to Kharkov MD hq. For some reason, it will be disbanded and its armies will be switched to South-Ural Front that is an Eastern map border static hq and you will lose the benefits of an in-range front HQ."

Curious what are all the airbases do? I have read the Wiki on it but not all the airbases are not listed. Does it matter what planes u put in each airbase. Do they act historically with their own mission sets based on the airbase you place planes in?
IS there a listing somewhere with what EXACTLY goes into which airbases. ie. IAD only for fighter defensive cover?

The only difference is for VVS and DBAD/AD DD airbases which are used to supply partisans. Otherwise there is no limitations based on the air base name.

Thank You sir.....

What minimum experience should the Soviets pilots have before facing the 41 Germans assuming they are flying modern fighters only?

You can face them with whatever experience. It all depends what kind of losses you can afford. Usually quantity can beat quality in long run.

The Luftwaffe units are in the 70+ experience level, so you don't want to be throwing brand new air units ( with their 33 experience ) at them.

I am new to the game, learning by doing so to speak. Have one question.
Even though the russians don't make any attacks, it seems I am loosing a lot of men anyhow. It says "current turn" and shows between 10k-15k men lost? It waries from scenarion to scenario, but why am I loosing so many men?, any how do I reduce the numbers?

Units in contact with enemy units lose people to attrition, as does the enemy.

Question from noob...

Post by Patoooo »

1st GC as German... and I'm not getting the unit info when I move the cursor over a hex?  Neither mine nor the Russian info shows up?
I thought in previous runthroughs that this happened... am I losing my mind?
Over my men it gives the box at the bottom, but not the supply info... over the Ruskies it just gives the hex info...
What silly thing have I done??

Thanks...

Probably have one of the map information tabs clicked, like factory information, or something like that. Select only forts and ownership, and you should see the unit info for your mouseover.

Not precisely, but certain tabs interfere with the smooth operation of others.

Ok, so it wasn't something I missed in documentation... (could still be).
Looked it up... I had Factory info on... and that one has a different rollover function.

Live and learn...

Thanks again.

how much (approximately) it affects enemy MP:s and CV when u cut a large portion of troops from any nearest city or rail head, so that only route of supplies to them are via "normal" territory such as woods, clear, swamp or heavy woods?

cheers

Air units question...

Post by Patoooo »

What is the secret to moving the ground elements of air units closer to the front?
How close should they be?
How does moving affect them?
Was there a thread somewhere I missed on this?

Thanks!

How do you get Ports to appear on the map?  I've tried every map mode but can't get the icons on the map, I'm clearly missing something...

--> Answering my own question: it seems the port icons are only available on Redmarkus's Place Names map mod, which is a shame, you'd think the devs would include this feature as knowing where ports are can be quite useful.

Hello there,
I have a newbie-question. I read the manual carefully and I guess I quite understand the basic game-principles. But... There is one big question I have - how to relocate sovier factories? I read everything in the manual. But when I put on the rail mode and click on the city... There is no sliders related to moving the factories? How is that?

I know it is stupid questions... But where else should I turn?

Thanks for your answer :)
