More Formosa Stuff: The crevah inscrutable baaahstards send in a unit to Karenko from Taihoku before our guys reach Taihoku. Now we have to fight them in mountain hex. [:-] So we send in some B-17's and B-24's from Altimonan and Aparri to bomb them. I worked really well but we did lose at least one Fort and had quite a few heavies damaged from the CAP (probably bleed over CAP from Taihoku and Takao. A Corsair sweep from Batan Is. fizzled somehow. Still not sure what the unit is, even after the aerial bombardment. Recon by bombardment, meet fog of war.

PI: The retreating Japan men horde at Lingayen was pounded badly by medium bombers and dive bombers. US 32nd ID and 7th Aus Div are trying to catch them moving down the road from San Fernando. We want the fight out in the open by Lingayen.

The airfield at Aparri is repaired. The port is repairing last. Several Air HQ's already there. Base is level 5 and building.

Ambon: We have been pounding Ambon for a few days now. We caught a few transports on the ground (probably flying out troops). No enemy CAP, just AAA. Ambon was a dangerous location along our supply corridor. Just cleaning up loose ends.

Oz: Australian forces accumulating at Broome. Should be able to eliminate the few walking dead left there soon.

The walking dead at Port Hedrand get bombed daily. It is most unpleasant, I am sure.

James Clavell used his experiences in Changi to write "King Rat". He is better know for Shogun. During an interview the interviewer asked him if the survivors of Changi ever got together for a reunion. His response was along the line of " Are you crazy? One in twenty lived!

Question: Will shore guns from an enemy static fortress fire on our landing craft if they are merely evacuating troops (speaking here of Ishigaki)?

I don't know why the engine would distinguish between enemy landing craft arriving empty and picking up people versus landing full and dropping off people. I would assume (but don't know for sure), that a valid target would get shot at, regardless of its end mission.

We lost 3 B-24's of various flavors yesterday but reports of B-17 losses were false. Oh well, if one wishes to make an omelette one must break a few eggs.

I think either Mark Twain, Napolean, Churchill, Abraham Lincoln, Kublai Khan or Lee Iacoca said that.

Three USN fighter squadrons showed up in San Francisco. I think these are the ghosts of squadrons we lost when bad things happened to some of our carriers.

They have neither planes, pilots or CO's but they do have a really nice collection of Quonset huts and a secretary pool. [:D]
