But do you have US PT boats ? Nationality matters there too.

EDIT : re convoy exit point, I think that what BBFanboy is concerned with is seeing NJP park a submarine at the exit points for the most probable destinations - so, same latitude as Perth or Adelaide.

Nationality is less important. This is because there are very few non USN PT boat equivalents in the game. IIRC, neither the Dutch nor the Filipinos get any replacement boats, and the British get only a handful of future arrivals. It therefore comes down to where can the USN PTs be generated. They are limited to American or Australian conditions.

Excellent link! [&o]
Yeah, great summary as always, Alfred !

Stupid question maybe but... if I disband the Dutch PT boats, and Java later falls, I can’t spawn the PT boats again, right ? Because there is no available home base to load the supply in the TF ?
(Thinking about a situation where the torpedoes would be expended and no possibility to rearm them locally...)

Remember there are two means of creating the boats from supply viz (a) TF carried supply or (b) national port. Each of course with its own criteria.

My recollection is that many years ago I did create some British MGB (they are the British equivalent of USN PTs) at an Indian port (= British national) which met the requirements (size 1 and 10k supplies). The same should be possible for the Dutch if they met the port requirement. The loss of the Javanese ports should not necessarily be fatal, though finding a suitable port which meets the port criteria and having any Dutch PTs would be the real challenge.

The basic point is that the built from supply types are overwhelmingly American so the coding effort went into refining the American and Australian relevant conditions as that was consistent with the historical record as adapted into the game abstraction. Thus it is possible to create USN PTs in a British port India but only under the TF carried supply rule.

Alfred

Edit: Further subsequent research came across a Don Bowen post of 13 January 2009 which confirms the accuracy of my comments in this thread. IOW, even after the complete loss of Java, the Dutch PTs could be "recalled" from the pools if a Dutch port, which meets the criteria, exists.

Cool, thanks. That’s better than simply using them for a suicide attack.

You should also be getting Queen Mary soon IIRC. Having both Queens should move nearly all the Division except some of the heavy equipment and their attached support troops. There are a couple of large size 17 knot xAKs in the game too, that could be useful for fast runs from CT. They would of course need an escort with them.

Course, your opponent will also know that reinforcements are coming, and he'll be trying to stop them

Its a long, exposed crossing from CT to Oz

Most of the IJN surface fleet seems to be busy with pushing the limits in SOPAC and NE Oz. I think mostly subs on the west side of Oz for now.

Doesn't take much though does it?

Some long legged xAKs for refuelling, some DDs, and some Glen equipped subs

Perfect place for his AMCs (if he's any left of course!)

Put it one way, if he's going for Oz, he's got to have the assets guarding against reinforcements

I am currently leaning on sending the British carriers down there to help protect the shipping lines...they might join up with Saratoga. I spotted some IJN shipping north of Carnavron the other day, and I bet that is where they are headed as they didn't show up at Geraldton. I will give it another day...

I have managed so far to get everything delivered to Australia with the exception of a lone float plane squadron that was the victim of the KB and my forgetfulness. We will see what happens going forward...

On the flip side, most convoys are now being sent to New Zealand, and from there to Hobart area. I have given too much shipping to Japan in the Java area after Dec 7...I don't want to give him too many more freebies.

I spotted a lone raider to the south of Invergarcaill in NZ in my game

Lots of ocean to cover! (works in your favour as well of course!)

Perth theatre

Sending the Indians to the East Coast, where the terrain is better suited for their TOE.

I really need better Recon than Wirrawrays.

Banshee move is picking up momentum. Much better to use them here than in almost certainly fruitless anti-shipping role on the east coast. Rested the Hudsons today.

Stuarts in China, albeit with rookie troops. It will take another month+ to fill out their numbers, and by then we will be approaching 100 prep. They will spend their time resting in Kunming, hopefully building morale, experience by adding replacements.

Transports and recons... welcome to the Allies' first half 1942 aircraft scarcity phenomenon.

There should be a reinforcement convoy tomorrow and I think it has Stuarts.

I think it is another dozen days, we have variable reinforcement. Also, I think the Stuarts are done coming in but there are a dozen Matildas.

Bomber pools

4E Beasts: Strategic bombing, transport hauling, infrastructure bombing

Awaiting the slug of squadrons in India, and then will upgrade them.

2E: every usage. Currently I don't have anything great...British are hauling supplies to China. Night bombing of ports, runways. Daytime bombing only where Zeroes can't go. Nothing to get excited about here.

Cruisers, destroyers, were working off system damage and safely tucked in port under a nice squadron of P40s...and a torpedo bomber is spotted!

It might be time to evacuate Perth area...
