Borners 6th Japanese Division has collapsed costing him almost 15,000 men. This makes the Allies, undisputed masters of Rennell Island and does enough to put the men on the cover of TIME magazine.

Allied airpower is not far behind.

yes, the land war was a great victory for IKE. My hope now is to keep the base down for as long as possible. However, IKE is getting more BB's than I have ever seen as the allies. I can only assume Pearl is feeling sorry for him loosing the use of every carrier that has been sent.

My point lead now is over 6000. Even should IKE take every base I have, it will be hard for him to make this up. If I can slow him down and inflict more fleet losses on the way, I should have enough points to win, but we shall see.

another large surface fight at Rennell. Japan did not do so well this time. Of my 3 BB's 2 were badly hit, while scoring no heavey shell hits on the enemy. While hard to beleive, all is far in war.

What is amazing is the difference from game to game in the forces that are made avaialbe. In my last game with IKE, Pearl sent me one BB through Feb of 43. In our game, I have counted 7 so far. 4 fast BB's and 3 old battlewagons. It was quite a shock in this last battle to be expecting one or at most 2, and find this. Still, Between the battle and air strikes, IKE lost another 2 CA's and 2 DD's. I had 2 BB's and 3 DD's knocked out but afloat. B-17's hit a CVL that failed to follow orders and sail from PEarl, but she will live, and her airgroup will transfer to land bases.

Here comes IKE

After bombing Irau into dust, IKE has mounted a major invasion. AIr strikes have been disappointing so far, but I have counted 40+ mine hit to this point. I have things set up too fast apparently, so I cannot tell exactly what has been hit, mostly transports at this point. Reports show my coastal guns firing as well, so hopefully IKE AP's are getting torn apart.

The fort level here is 8. As long as I can keep a few supplies getting in, I should be able to make this a slow campaign for him.

just a quick update.

IKE continues to attack Irau, we are now in late feb. One bombardment mission found the BB Colorado hitting 3 mines. Although I doubt she sunk, that should put her out for most of the game.

One very fustrating thing is that I had two NELL groups in Truk, 35 in all, for asw partol. One gsuddenly shows 0 planes, the other 1 Nell. I am beside myself to have put so much time into this and suffer 35 losses due to a computer bug!

This is good for him I think.

ya know, when I created this login name, I almost changed it as I thought someone out there would make a high - school level comment about it. I guess I should be thankful that it took a year for someone to post one.

IKE's endless supply of BB's must finally be running out. Idaho was hit by 2 mines recently. Several more CA's and lighter units hit off Irau. It's late Feb. Irua is still holding out. Fort level is 5 now.  I must say I am pleased. Ike has taken terrible losses due to mines. not much reported as sunk, but at this point sending something back to pearl for 6 months is almost as good.
HIs naval search missions have been hitting everything in sight. I wish I knew how. 3 ML's have been lost recently due to this. My navy is weak, in spite of the many I have sent back to toyko, nothing seems to be getting released.

My point lead is still over 6200 though, and the longer IKE has to fight at Irau, the less time he is going to have to take everything he will need to.

RE: McArthur Returns

ya know, when I created this login name, I almost changed it as I thought someone out there would make a high - school level comment about it. I guess I should be thankful that it took a year for someone to post one.

You know Brian that´s the second time that same person has made a comment related to my penis out of nowhere. The first one was about how my font size related to my penis size.

Odd really.

Supressed homosexual feelings poking out of the closet maybe?

anyway, back to the war. 14 Bettys were lost this turn, but 2 torp hits were scored on BB Idaho, which already had taken 2 mine hits about a week ago, plus one torp hit on a CA and DD.

After the battle of Rennel ended I almost immediately began a medium scale invasion of Borners bastion at Irau. First to keep pressure on him and bring all the attrition that would go with it and, two, to keep him off balance and unable to get set for a counter invasion on Rennel.

The first objective has been mildly successful I think but the second, if he ever entertained the idea of recapturing Rennel by counter invasion it left when I invaded Irau.

As he mentioned the vast majority of damage to me has been done by the mine. It has been written on these forums the mine will never stop an invasion. That may be true...partially. They might not stop an initial invasion but they certainly might stop a future second or third invasion and at least delay their launch date, and that´s all the Japanese need to do.

But, nevertheless they´re are now roughly 35,000 Allied troops fighting around 25,000 Japanese troops on Irau. This has been the situation for about a month now. The biggest suprise for me was the fortification level he had achieved there in such a short time, 9 I think! It has taken a month to beat it down to five. Although I never planned on blitzkrieg the island that has extended the fighting out. The issue is not in doubt however and it has to be done, so it´s being done.

Brian mentioned my supply interdiction against him. Originally I thought single ship convoys and such basically were given almost a free pass against air attack. That I wouldn´t be able to much about this. This is not true and I think he can testify to that. My bombers are attacking his convoys and barges quite a lot. It´s almost a double edged sword. The way the combat works out single ship convoys get no CAP cover. So although they may have a better chance to slip by, when attacked the attacking bombers are the ones given a free pass. From where I stand the 4E in a naval interdiction roll is effective, losses to them low, and increases their experience rather fast.

As he said, my bombers are attacking everything floating, single ship or not.

The points spread is still disgustingly wide, for me...but, surrender is not in my thinking and I still have lots of time. As well if time does comes short a late game run around invasion to Truk or Rabaul might be enough to close several thousand points rapidly. If I see any chance I will go on and will keep hitting him.

It´s like this.

Wow, Ike wins one round of the ground battle and posts about it. The fight at Irau I think will be over soon. My plan had been to fight the war of attrittion here, planning on some of the 6 cv's 5bb's and many other ships in Toyko to be sent. it's nearly 3 months now, and nothing. IKE's losses in transports have been heavy, and he has many ships damaged. As such, I expect it to be some time before he can invade Lugna. I am sure the air attacks will be painful leading up to that. However, it's march now, and my point lead is still over 6200. He will have to take Rabaul or ruk to win, and there will be enough troops at both bases to keep that from being anywhere near a quick victory.
