two Germans in the Pacific - Sc17
RE: Secret revelaed
Actually CA MIKUMA wasn´t involved in the heavy shelling last night... I relied on 14" rather than 8" for this task as your local commander will have felt on his head...[:D] However, the bombardment run went fine without troubles next day.

RE: Secret revelaed
Yes, unfortunately the weather over PM was slightly too bad for my Bomber crews. Maybe next time.

RE: Secret revelaed
One of the subs that got sunk several days ago had conditential material on board. Obviously another gift by the german allys. First investigations revealed construction plans for a modern BB. As Washington still refuses to send heavy surface combat units i decided to build them myself based upon these plans. The work on Project "Foreign cancellor" has already progressed quiet far.

Bombers in the sky
Today the enemy got a first taste of what is about to come. Skies were darkened by swarms of Bombers. Just a few examples of the results.

RE: Bombers in the sky
Frank plastered Lae´s airfield with his increasing LBA out of PM, caught my CAP pants down. Of course this was not the kind of a day I like. As Japanese player generally, you have to rejoice about the little lights... Just as my submarine that holed the MSW at the Great Barrier Reef. Hopefully this tiny vessel will hit the bottom[:D] Usually, one fish is more than sufficient to kill a minesweeper.

RE: Bombers in the sky
These little things tend to happen quiet to often me thinks. Today a CA found a mine in mid ocean. (well it was a dotbase in vicinity of nowhere)The MSW sunk in port today and an SC just stumbled into a newly laid Minefield off Luganville. I saw the minelaying sub coming and I predicted the right hex to hunt it....but wasn´t lucky this time.
Now to something completely different. Supply run number 4265839873 arrived in PM last night and as usual, the enemy tried to hunt my precious AKs. Not without success this time. One AK will sink and two other got damaged. The price for that...well it was the first time the brave samurai in their flying newspapers got confronted with the "twin tailed devil". Apart from this I was able to attack Japanese shipping in port again. I don´t know how long the enemy will present me those juicy targets. Maybe I have to send a few more B17s next time.

OMG, over 70! zeros lost in one day. i ONLY let my zeros fly, when their moral is above 90 and their fatigue close to zero. i would think, this samurais were so tired, that they had even problems to keep their eyes open through the flight.[:D]

RE: Bombers in the sky
I think moral above 90 and fatique close to zero is a little bit too tight. In that case they only will fly once a week. Not that I would complain if my enemy lets his fighters down most of the time[:D]. But hey, it is war. These guys are supposed to do their duty with fatigue 20 and moral 70 or even worse if necessary.
sub strike again!
Its early November 1942 by now, and the allies slowly awake from their initial weakness. However, recent successes spent much needed motivation & relief.
One day ago my subs made Fuellis Navy feel about their power still alive in their hulls and skippers. They torpedoed AND sunk one DD on his way back from PM frontline duty and two transports in the NC and NorthernOz areas. Two of the victims succumbed to the full spread of a three-fish salvo each... RE: sub strike again!
Last night, the proud and powerful Imperial Japanese Navy slipped into the heavily defended port of Cairns. Our intelligence reported increasing relevance for the allied lines of supply. Accordingly we struck where it really hurts. Seaplanes had detected a juicy convoy running back into the port and a well-balanced force of cruisers + destroyers turned these AKs into rusting junk, obstructing the piers of Cairns... [:D] None of the hundreds of the a/c out of Oz bothered the daring and victorious intruders on their way home, where some kind of party is announced already.
Meanwhile, my recon revealed an allied carrier force loitering southeast of Lunga... Hmmm, something´s going on there it seems. [&:]

RE: sub strike again!
One possibly unintentional side effect of high morale for an air group is that they will continue to attack despite catastrophic losses. The whole 'when a normally good thing (morale) actually becomes a bad thing' makes this game hard to learn and also difficult to anticipate and plan for losses.

RE: it goes on
The past few turn Fuelli got even closer - he is developing Wunpoko to an airbase finally (as expected). While the overall war situation is rather silent with only sporadic air attacks (mostly allied ones of course...), my naval forces tried to wreak havoc in the NH area. With some good success. Tough my opponent each time had prepared a "PT trap", actually his boats fell victim to those...[:D] He is loosing these tiny vessels at a nice rate[:)]. Further, my Nells made the "washing machine charlie" and appeared over Noumea at night. They indeed found some juicy targets, but unfortunatley hit the wrong ones....

see here for the ordeal the PT boats have to endure. Often they catch one of the thousands of mines laid in the vicinity, even before they arrive on scene. Most of these boats that struck an egg sink right away. [8D]

RE: it goes on
only a few days later, my routine patrollers netted a nice little gift - another minesweeping party got annihilated. This time, good ol´ FURUTAKA hit one of our own mines accidentally but damage is surprisingly slight. The ship can even be repaired at the local facilities.
Besides the naval action, I dumped another two of my numerous NavGsn echelons into Wunpoko. Just wanted to probe his garrisson there. I never expected to take this base. And of course they didn´t accomplished much, considering tons of bombs that rain down on them. But I just don´t have any real job for these troops. At least there is none that makes much sense to me. Any hints?

Thank´s allot for you congratulations Ralf and Ike. After a short briefing my Wife agreed that honeymoon has to wait until the war is one. First things first. I love that woman[:)]
As my Opponent already mentioned, Wunpoku is the mayor focus of activity right now. What he forgot to mention is a successful raid of Nells against my few mayor surface vessels. One BB and a CA got damaged and had to return to Pearl. Of the about 23 attacking planes about 12 never reached homeplate again.
Mines are still a big problem int Luganville area. But yesterday the fifth ML of the Japanese went down. Still alot work to do but every little thing helps.

RE: it goes on
The last couple of days saw a lot of air action above Japanese transport TFs. Several APs got hit but only few are reported sunk yet. I had lots of my scouting planes out to search for the KB. Recon flights of the mayor bases were giving me no intel as well. But one bomber crew that returned from Tulagi were it was bombing one of the said transport TFs reported that the harbour there was in an advanced stage and that is was filled up with ships and surely alot of them have been flattops. That was great news and as the weather forecast was promising it was decided to send all available 4e bombers to bomb that harbour. Unfortunatley my highly experienced B17s from PM were out of range for this mission. Neverthelsee nearly all B17s and B24 were able to take off and reached their target which was only slightly defended by a mix of Japanese fighters. During the attack 2 B17s got shot down by flak and two other did not reach their airfield again. They scord three bomb hit on two CV and a CS each and three bomb hits on a CVL. I had hoped for a littlebit more but I´m glad with what I´ve got.
