Two messages enters CiCPac HQ this day, once more the news are not too good, and morale not only at CiCPac HQ but also in all allied nations is at an all time low.

From: Base commander, Karachi
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: airbattle

Today the Japanese sent some 100 fighters in a sweep onto our airfields. Fierce battles were fought in the sky, but the day has to be concluded as a Japanese victory, as Japan lost 46 Zeros against our 73 fighters lost. The only good thing however is that our losses were spread out and quite a few second line fighters were among the lost while the Japanese losses were all front line fighters.

From: Base commander, San Fransisco
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Kido Butai

The Kido Butai is still lingering offshore. Due to poor weatherconditions however no flights were launched from our airfields, nor from the Japanese carriers.

A message enters CiCPac HQ in the early morning. As CiCPac Terje439 reads the message. he hears the distant sound of airplane engines...

From: Base commander, Derby
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: enemy sighted!

Today we spotted Japanese troops just outside the city, expect attacks on the city within two days max. Have ordered all planesa to leave the city just in case.

As he finish reading the message and considers what to do, the silence is broken as hell is once more released upon the ships at anchor at San Fransisco. All battleships as well as the Hornet takes even more beating, and the only thing keeping the bigger ships afloat is the valiant effort of the firefighters and damagecontrol teams. It is clear however that another few days will see the US fleet without any remaining capitol ships...

The situation is dire, and everyone knows it. The one incoming message does not provide a morale booster, it does however give a small hope that any convoy heading for Lahaina will have some chance off success.

From: Base commander, Pearl Harbour
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Enemy bombers

As of today enemy bomber seems to focus on targeting our submarines, suggest sending relief force to Lahaina immediately!

The only problem, as everyone at CiCPac HQ knows, is that with Kido Butai lurking off the US West Coast, no ships are allowed out of port for the time being...

I just read your AAR and I am curious. You lost the Enterprise on Dec 7th and you have a no Allied movement on turn one house rule? Did that apply to your TF's at sea too? Because if it did I would've thrown the bullcrap flag in a heartbeat. Everybody knows the US CV's starting positions and headings. It would be a simple matter to park the KB in a position to destroy both US CV's that are at sea. Which is exactly what happened in the first 3 days, wasn't it? So it looks pretty shady to me.

Other than that keep up the good AAR. It's a different format and far more interesting than simple combat reports copied and pasted into a thread. It can lack detail but perhaps more maps and screenshots could make up for that?

Keep up the good fight,

Landing at Johore Baru also isn't the gentle way IMO.

Was there a HR stating no 1st turn port attacks that aren't CV attacks? Let me check... Doesn't look like it... If you cover Johore Bharu with CV's and a strong surface force I could see Japan making that move but if it was Betties and Nells knocking out the Brits at Singapore... That is probably pretty shady too. Effective, certainly, Singapore died in the first week and a half or so as I recall. Had kind of a crappy day to top off a few crappy weeks (grandfather passing away on the 24th, the whole "we-should-probably-see-less-of-one-another-so-I-can-focus-on-school" style breakup (are you really going to dump that on me four days after I bury my grandpa? yeah, you are), and dick head supervisor going on his monthly bi-polar power trip (that would be today) sums up my last few weeks fairly nicely) and I'm not sure where I was going with this. Goldschlager does that to me. Good stuff but those gold flakes can be like drinking razor blades and that stuff can have an effect on your short term memory. Oh yeah, that whole parachute attack on Mandalay on day 1 seemed shady when I first read it. I think the only reason was to knock out the AVG, the best Allied fighter group probably in the whole hemisphere. It worked and probably saved all kinds of fighter losses over India.

Anyway. It's been years since I've played this game. Oddly enough the military doesn't give me much time for this game and I kind of lost interest a couple years ago but have regained it. Might have to do a Grandpa D memorial AAR sometime. Maybe if AE ever comes out... [;)]

With all that said, he has invaded India, Oz, and Hawaii. He has to be weak somewhere. Unfortunately, through shady methods or not, he seems to have killed most of the force you could use to hit back.

Good luck. It isn't all over, look at what canoerebel has done in his Forlorn Hopes AAR. Through bold moves and smart preservation of his forces in Australia he went from a very near Jap autovictory to positioning himself for an amazing comeback win.

Thanks for reading these ramblings guys [:)]

Shady moves? Not really. I stated when we started that I wanted my opponent to throw every available kitchen sink at me as I think that is one of the better way to learn the game.

And as to my lost carriers in the opening stages - if I had NOT moved my carriers, they would have gotten away clean. Unfortunately a) I was allowed to move them, and b) I managed to move them into the path of KB on its way to PH AND on its way back.
The Brit CVL I lost due to plain stupidity, but gee did I learn to hit and run after that, my days of lingering within a Japanese airbase are over [:D]
And right now, AVG has reformed in Karachi and is a huge asset for me in keeping the Brit fleet (somewhat) safe.

Yeah, I too thought he was weak somewere, unfortunately so far my guesses has been far from the spot [:D][:D]

Terje.

March 22nd 1942

The situation has stabilized somewhat over the past days in the meaning that the Kido Butai has decided to keep lingering off the West Coast, and in the fact that fightersweeps on Karachi is a daily occurance.

From: Base commander, Karachi
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Enemy fightersweeps.

The enemy fighters keep coming at us, todays losses records at 34 Zeros shot down and 64 of ours. Of some concern is that 21 of ours were Hurricanes which we hoped would be somewhat effective. It is also my fear that these airraids are just an effort to wear us down before launching bombing runs and naval bombardments before they launch a ground attack. Every day we get before an actual ground attack is a blessing, in three weeks time we should recieve some reinforcements unless the war elsewere has a greater need for these troops.

From: Dock manager, San Fransisco
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Ship repairs

Of all the ships currently damaged and in port, we have eliminated all fires and all flooding from all ships, save the Hornet which still has quite a bit of flooding. None of the capitol ships will be anywere near operational for atleast 6 months I'm afraid. Suggest diverting some of the ships to other docks as soon as possible.

March 23rd 1943

Newspaper headline:

Bloody Monday!

Our reporters around the world informs us that today has been one of the bloodiest days in the air for the duration of the war. Huge aerial battles were fought at the West Coast as well as over the Indian city of Karachi.
Over Karachi 37 Japanese fighters were shot down at the cost of 83 Allied aircrafts, while at and around San Fransisco losses were peticulary heavy as the Japanese carriers launched yet another attack on the port, and our own bombers flew two retaliation strikes at the carriers. At the end of the day, 86 Japanese fighters were lost against a total of 259 Allied fighters and bombers.

Although our own ships at San Fransisco took yet more hits, none are reported sunk, and our retaliation strikes are reported to have caused considerable damage against the so called Kido Butai, were the carrier Zuikaku recieved one direct hit which unfortunately caused minor damage. The carrier Hiryu also took one hit, she was however last seen on fire. The Japanese carrier Kaga were hit by two bombs and was also reported on fire, as was the carrier Soryu who took no less than 4 hits, and is also reported to have taken heavy damage.

The only ship sunk today however was a small Japanese troop carrier that tried to land enemy ground forces at Efate were a small task force consisting of 5 light cruisers and a destroyer waited for her and quickly sent her to a watery grave.

The main concern of the CiCPac HQ at the moment is however reported to be the fact that enemy tanks are reported to have attacked the city of Derby. When asked about the aerial losses around San Fransisco and the fact that our losses were three times heavier than the Japanese, CiCPac Terje 439 responded that alot of our planes were obsolete and that they were thrown into the defence of the port as a last resort.

PS! My condolances on your Grandfather ItsAMadhouse!

Thank you.

Hmm. You destroyed 110 planes on the 23rd. That's good. Hopefully you got most of the pilots too. Those early war CV pilots are tough to replace.

I may not be posting much but I'll be reading. Keep up the good fight.

Well actually in the air I am not doing too poorly. My losses are roughly 1.5 times higher than the Japanese, and the plane type that has been shot down the most is the Zero with one of the Jap bomber types(do not recall which atm) as #2, P40s as #3 and Nells as #4. But then again he(Roy2008) has lost alot of aircrafts due to his aggressiveness, so it is not really poor play by him in any way, he is simply pushing on really hard.

Right now I am hoping that the damage done to the Soryu is enough to see her go down. Her closest port is Lahaina which I believe Roy2008 will not be too happy about sending the KB into as it is mined on a daily basis by my submarines operating out of Pearl.

Short sit-rep
China: Not doing good here at all. Most likely outcome is that I will be able to hold only Kunching(??) in a mnonth or so. This city should however be a though nut to crack as units will spawn there.

India/Burma: Most likely scenario is that I will be forced into a few cities only (Karachi and Diamond Harbour). Main concern is the lack of British reinforcements (no combat units for some time, only HQs/Eng/Base Forces.

Aus/NZ: Derby will fall, but that should about be it. Main concern is that as soon as Soerebaja falls he will move those units (24 of them) into Australia. That is gonna cause a major headache. A small supplyconvoy is inbound to Soerebaja with some 28k supply which should allow me to keep Soerebaja for another month.

Aleutians: I have strong forces, alot of supply, and have built the base up to a lvl 5 fort, lvl 4 AF, lvl 4 port, at Dutch Harbour. This base he is not inclined to attack too soon as I have quite a few heavy bombers up there.

Central Pac: A major headache. I need to get more units to Lahaina to be able to supply Pearl, and to take Lahaina. This cannot be done with the KB lurking around...

Aerial combat: Doing ok, but loosing too many fighters, so still need to keep obsolete fighters on the line. I will happily loose 10 obsolete fighters to down one of his DB/TBs attacking from the KB and help preserve the few ships I still have in fighting ability.

Naval combat: Doing poorly. The biggest ship I have sunk is a CA. In return I've lost all US carriers (save the Hornet which is at 99sys 54 flood at SF), several BBs, CAs, CLs, DDs. Only unit type where the Japanese losses are higher than mine, are Subs and MSWs.

March 24th 1942

A quiet day at all fronts, and CiCPac Terje439 taks his time to send a more detailed report to the leaders of the Allied nations.

The tactical map.
The area within the red border is the zone were Japanese aircrafts control the sealanes.
#1 is a convoy inbound for Soerebaja laden with supplies
#2 is the damaged Kido Butai limpering away from our shores. If more carriers had been available they would have been sent out now.
#3 is the Hawaiian Islands were we still hold Pearl Harbour. The base is however awfully low on supplies, to lighten this situation we have allready landed forces at Lahaina, but more forces are needed for the assault. Losses to ships heading to Lahaina will be heavy.

Various information

As can be seen, we have suffered heavy losses to our army (20:1 in losses) and navy (8:1 in losses). The airforce fares pretty well against the Japanese planes.

The navy losses are somewhat inaccurate as our losses are mainly capitol ships, while the Japanese have lost only one heavy cruiser, no light cruiser, no carrier or any battleship.

Aerial losses

As can be seen, the Zero-fighter is not that good after all, a staggering 435 of them have been lost so far in the war.
As a matter of fact the Japanese has the doubtful honor of having 3 out of the top 5 in this list.
Also worth noting is that the Japanese bombers seem very easy prey for AA-guns. We should install better anti-air guns on our ships!!

A quiet day, and one message only is sent out from CiCPac HQ.

From: CiCPac HQ
To: Base commander, Karachi
Subj: shipping

Due to a shortage if merchant shipping at the US West Coast please send ships from Karachi to San Fransisco. Ships must be sent the long way around Australia.

Two messages enters CiCPac HQ, messages that causes alot of concern.

From: Base commander, Karachi
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Enemy spotted

Today alot of Japanese troops were spotted at the outskirts of the city. Estimate close to 20.000 Japanese frontline troops. Own defences being built up, main concern is lack of fighting troops. Send reinforcements as soon as possible.

From: Base commander, Soerebaja
To: CiCPac HQ
Subj: Update

Our situation is deteriorating fast. The enemy now has over 150.000 front line troops in the city. Although Japanese losses are bigger than our every day, they are breaking down our defences faster than we can rebuild them. We might have to think about filling the incoming convoy with troops to evacuate to Australia. Our estimate that we could hold for a month atleast as soon as we were supplied does no longer hold. Estimate 10-14 days before we will have to surrender...
