SUBJECT: Phillipines Report.
DATE: Dec 27th, 1941.

5th Air Division aircrafts have attacked Lingayen in three succesive waves, like following:

a) Morning wave with 16 Ki-51, 9 Ki-36, 28 Ki-30, 19 Ki-48 escorted by 33 KI-27 have strike 21st P.A. Division. 55 casualties reported.
b) Afternoon wave with 40 G4M1 have attacked 86 PS Coastal Bn. 8 casaulties reported.
c) Afternoon wave with 11 unescorted Ki-21-IIa have attacked 11st P.A.Division. 6 casualties reported.

10 enemy 4E bombers have raid over Davao, intercepted by our braves A5M4, enemy turn back without any bomb launched over our forces.

16th Recon Regiment (16th Infantry Division) have capture Lucena.

Tomorrow we will launch a massive assault over enemy positions at Lingayen: XIV Army right wing with 4th Tank Regiment, 9th, 47th and 1st Formosa Infantry REgiment, 48th Engineer REgiment, 48th and 20th Recce Regiment and 48th F.A. REgiment- Heavy air close support will be coordinated by 5th Air Division (IJA) and 23rd Air Flotilla (IJN): 18 Ki-51 (52nd I.F.Chutai) & 10th Ki-36 (74th I.F.Chutai) from Tuguegarao AF. 23 Ki-48 (8th Sentai), 27 Ki-30 (16th Sentai) and 41 Ki-27 (24th Sentai from Aparri) and from Takao 27 A6M2, 54 G4M1, 25 G3M2 and 15 Ki-21-IIa. (total: 240 sorties awaited to support Lingayen assault)

4th JAAF Base Force will departure as soon as possible from Takao to San Fernando.
21st Air Flotilla beeing shipped at Takao to be transfered to Cagayan.

Tanaka Det followed by XIV Army HQ, 2 mortar bns, 1 heavy arty regiment and 1 heavy arty bn marching to Cabanatuan. Kanno Det will join this forces from Vigan.

65th Brigade (from Batangas) and 20th Infantry Regiment (from Mauban) marching to Manila.

Recon flights reports enemy are evacuating Manila to North-North West.

DATE: Dec 27th, 1941

1st Air Attack over Pennang Fortress (Georgetown): 27 Ki-27b sweeping at 100 feet. 8 enemy casualties reported. No own losses.

2nd Air Strike over Georgetown: 48 Ki-48, 44 Ki-21, 22 Ki-51, escorted by 16 Ki-43 and 3 Ki-27 attacking Pennang Fortress. 244 enemy casualties reported. No own losses.

Enemy sweeps over Kota Bharu skies with Buffaloes. Short number of Ki-43 on CAP.

Tomorrow all elements from 3rd Air Division (Kota Bharu, Alor Star and Singora) will launch a massive air strike against Georgetown to soft enemy defenses before ground forces attack.

(1) Naval Ops at Borneo-Sarawak

With light delay in our planned dates, our forces will departure tomorrow to capture Kuching.

O.O.B 2nd FLEET (Kuching):

CARDIV 3: CVL RYUJO, CVE TAIYO, 3 CAs, 7 DDs. (Taiyo with 18 A6M2 from Yamada Det S-1)
CRUDIV 7: 4 CAs, 4 DDs.
3rd Mobile Force: BB KONGO, BB HARUNA, 2 CA, 1 CL, 4 DDs.
Kuching Invasion Force: 1 DD, 1 PB, 1 AMC, 2 AP, 3 AK, I & II/4th Infantry Regiment.
Minesweeper Division: 2 DMS.
ASW Short Range: 1 PB.
ASW Long Range: 3 DDs.

Bihoro Ku K-1 will patrol at ASW mission from Cam Ranh in the route of our ships (8 G3M2)
Toko Ku K-1 Det with 2 H6K4 will patrol ASW at LR.
26 G3M2 from Saigon will patrol ASW at LR over the invasion fleet.
6 G3M2 will fly naval search missions over north Borneo coast with another 26 ready for naval attack, torpedoes armed.

(2) Home Waters

Minelayer HIJMS Toshima will departure from Ominato to minelay Wakkanai. North approaches to Japan Sea must be seal as soon as possible. Enemy submarines have been sighted in this area.

36th JNAF AF Unit will be shipped at Tokyo to departure heading Saishu To Island aboard AK Sakito Maru. She will await ASW Escort. This ground unit will reinforce our ASW deploy in the Korea-Yellow Sea Maritime Area.

(1) Malaya Report

Georgetown was smashed by a masive air strike from 3rd Air Division units. First wave with 34 Ki-27 in ground attack mission strafe enemy Penang Fortress reporting 15 casualties. The main wave with
53 Ki-48, 44 Ki-21, 22 Ki-51 escorted by 27 Ki-43 and 4 Ki-27 reported another 226 casualties over Penang Fortress.

89th I.F.chutai with 12 Ki-32 has been transfered to Taiping.
50th I.F chutai with 3 Ki-15 has been transfered to Taiping.
50th I.F.chutai Det with 2 Ki-46 has been transfered to Taiping.

Tomorrow a second massive air strike will be launched against Georgetown to support the ground assault.

(2) ASW Reports

An Electric Boat was attacked off Vigan by PB Toko Maru. She reported 5 hits or near misses over enemy coastal submarine. DD Minegumo supported her and report another 4 near misses or hits on same enemy submarine.

5 hits were reported on an enemy T Class Submarine off Mauban in a retaliation attack after the same SS attacked unsuccesfully xAK Tarayaru Maru.

Another 3 hits were reported on an Electric SS off Vigan after depth charged by DD Hatakaze.

DD Yudachi reports 3 hits on a "P Class" SS off Davao.

01 G3M2 from Bihoro Daitai reported 1 hit on an enemy submarine near Saigon (identified like oceanic dutch).

01 G3M2 from Bihoro Daitai reported 1 hit on an enemy submarine near Cam Ranh Bay (identified like oceanic dutch).

09 G3M2 from 1st Ku K-1 Det has been transfered to Naha from Batan Island.

(3) Kuching

HIJMS Zuiho TG will rendezvous with Main Body to support assault over Kuching. Minesweeper Sqdrn will escort Bombard TF (CRUDIV 7) stand off 40 nm ahead Invasion Forces. Mobile Force and Light Carrier will trail 40nm the main body, with A6M2 flying at LRCAP over them.

Miri airfield status don´t let to transfer air units on this base. 4th Naval Construction Bn will begin with repairs works at once.

An oceanic minelayer (identified like dutch CM Willen von der Zaan) has been spotted by I-153 near Serasan Island (in the kuching area). She is heading NW probably to Singapore. We thinking she probably minelay Kuching waters.

DATE: Dec 28th 1941

Massive air strike to support our ground forces at Lingayen by 5th Air Division units. 50 G4M1 and 23 G3M2 have smashed 86th PS Coastal Bn reporting 171 enemy casaulties. A second strike with 23 Ki-48, 27 Ki-30, 14 Ki-21, 10 Ki-36 and 16 KI-51 escorted by 41 Ki-27b have smashed 21st P.A. Division reporting another 146 casualties. Our ground forces have captured Lingayen reportin 1.936 enemy casualties vs 220 IJA men lost. 86th Coastal Bn have surrender. 11st and 21st PA with 1/45th PS independent Bn have retreated. Lingayen is in our hands !

Kanoya Ku K-1 Det (subunit B) have been redeployed at Cagayan from Taichu with 9 G4M1. Their first mission will be a recon fly over Tarakan with another aircrafts ready to attack whatever enemy ships will be spotted by our naval search floatplanes.

BATDIV 1 (MUTSU-NAGATO) will departure from Davao with CL OI and several destroyers to escort the Jolo Invasion Force (146th Infantry Regiment).

E13A1 FP will fly a recon mission over Jolo to report about enemy forces there.

CL KITAKAMI will be available at readiness condition to be transfered at Kure drydock in three days.

9 B-17 tried to attack Davao, but they were intercepted by our A5M4s from Kuwai Det. All enemy aircrafts turned back without any bomb launched.

(1) Northeast Hawaii Blockade Force:

xAK Steel Worker was torpedoed and sunk by I-6 into her war patrol area.
xAK Rona was torpedoed and sunk after 2 torpedo hits by I-25 into her war patrol area.
An enemy convoy has been spotted by our E14Y1 flying naval search to Hawaii eastern approaches. 9 ships were sighted, 5 of them identified like xAPs. I-25 will reroute to intercept them.

(2) Eastern Australia Blockade Force:

xAK Aroona was sunk after torpedoes hit by I-170 near Sale (South Australia).
I-171 underway to Truk for urgent repairs after been mauled by depth charges attack yesterday in the northeastern australia coast. Last damage report from CDR Hirata D.: 17 system and 26 Flood (21 major) damages.

(3) ASW efforts:

DD Tsuga, escorting Tanker convoy from Port Arthur to Osaka reported depth charge attack on enemy submarine. No hits were reported by enemy must to head down.

PB Odatsuki Maru was torpedoed when pingin an enemy sub contact. She was sunk off Laoag.

DD Amatsukaze reports depth charges attack on an enemy submarine shadowing our Kuching Landing Force. 1 hit or near miss was reported.

A USN Submarine was reported hit by our LR ASW aircrafts from Yokohama.

DATE: Dec 29th, 1941

1st Kure SNLF Landings at Oroquieta, Tomorrow will be in our hands.

Two air strikes over enemy shippings at Butuan. 4 G4M1 bombed xAKL Magallanes and xAKL Luzon, last of them sunk, former heavily damage or probably sunk after 4 bomb hits.

Massive air strike over Manila enemy ground positions:

1st Wave with 16 Ki-51, 10 Ki-36, 27 Ki-30 and 23 Ki-48 escorted by 37 Ki-27 meet with 4 P-40 at CAP. 2 ki-27 downed by enemy with 28 casaulties reported at Cavite USN Base Force.
2nd Wave (afternoon) with 40 G4M1 escorted by 27 A6M2 Type-0 fighrers report 1 enemy P-40 downed and 77 casualties on USAFFE HQ. (I hope McArthur between them !).
Third raid, at afternoon, with 21 G3M2 escorted by 27 A6M2 reported 1 P-40 downed and 78 casualties on 71st P.A.Division.
Fourth raid over Manila with 15 Ki-21 escorted by 33 Ki-27 attacked 2nd PA Constabulary Regiment positions, reporting 44 enemy casualties.

6 enemy P-26 have attacked Oroquieta beachhead, strucking with one 100lb bomb XAP HAKONE MARU. (light damages).

New air attack with B-17 over Davao. Several B-17 damages. 1 supply port hit reported. HIJMS Kitakami will be ready to departure from Davao tomorrow under heavy ASW escort.

Following air units were transfered from Takao to Phillipine Islands:

-14th Sentai with 21 Ki-21-IIa transfered to San Fernando
-76th I.F.Chutai with 9 Ki-15-II transfered to San Fernando
-8th Senati Det B# with 2 Ki-46 transfered to Vigan

SUBJECT: MALAYA & NORTH BORNEO REPORTS
DATE: Dec 29th, 1941.

(1)Georgetown falls in our hands!

3.000 enemy troops have been destroyed at Georgetown. Enemy surrender in masse after heavy air strikes and ground assault. First air raid with 40 Ki-27 straffe enemy positions reporting 6 casualties on Penang Fortress (1 Ki-27 downed by enemy flak). Second air strike with 24 Ki-43 escorting 22 Ki51, 12 Ki-32, 19 Ki-21 and 54 Ki-48 reported 115 enemy casualties from Penang Fortress.

At ground our forces deliberate attack enemy fortifications, downed to level 0, and enemy was heavily smashed. 5/14th Punjab, 3rd SSVF Bn, Penang Fortress and 28th Gurkha Brigades have surrender.

(2) Air Strikes on Singapore

3rd Air Division have launched a probe attack over Singapore, but enemy is heavily defended with 33 Buffalos at CAP over Singapore. We lost 10 Ki-21 and 6 Ki-43Ia/b by only 5 Buffaloes downed. Suspended all air ops over Singapore. LGEN Sugawara will receive orders to be ready with 60-70 Ki-43s to launch a massive sweep mission over enemy skies. It´s mandatory to gain air supperiority when Kuching falls in our hands.

(3) Enemy air attacks

1 Hudson was downed by our Ki-43s wehn bombing XXV Army advanced guard (5 blenheims and 4 hudson meet with 8 Ki-43 at CAP).
Another 2 Blenheim were downed over Singora when tried to attack shippings there. 3 Ki-43 intercepted them (only 3 Blenheims)

(4) Kuching

2nd Fleet main body is ready to launch bombardment mission after minesweepers complete their missions. WE know enemy minelayer was spotted near Kuching returning to northwest (singapore?)

(1) 14th Division.

14th Division will be deattached from 6th Army, and will be transfered to railway to Fusan at Korea. There will be available like RESERVE OF SOUTHERN AREA ARMY.

(2) China

2nd China convoy arrives succesfully and without incidents to Shangai with near 19.000 tons of war supplies to feed ofensives in this threatre.

10th I.F.Chutai have been ordered to be upgrade at Canton. This unit will reemplace their obsoletes Ki-27b by news Ki-43Ic.

At Honk Kong minesweeper mission was accomplished and 2nd Fleet HQ under VADM Kondo will be transfered when ASW assets will be available at Takao.
Hong Kong have expands fortifications to level 1

Chinhae (at South Korea) expands airfield to level 2. Air ASW assets ready for service.

SUBJECT: ENEMY AT OKHOST SEA !
DATE: Dec 30th, 1941.

Today morning, a H6K4 naval search flight reported one or two enemy ships in Okhost Sea. Our observer report like AMC and not soviet confirmed. Tomorrow morning all our G4M1 from Yokohama Ku K-1 at Bihoro will be ready to launch naval attack if enemy position is confirmed by our naval search flights.

RO-34 patrolling in Northern Waters have been dispatched to intercept enemy ships.

HIJMS Hosho with escorts at ASW duties between Kushiro and Sendai will be available tomorrow if needed. (ETA Kushiro, Dec 31st, 1941)

DATE: Dec 30th, 1941

(1) 3rd Air Division Report:

13 enemy fighters (Buffaloes) have being intercepted by 5 Ki-43Ic over XXV Army left wing advance guard. 4 Buffaloes were downed by 1 Ki-43Ic lost.
Tomorrow all Ki-43Ib/c available will launch a sweep over Singapore to gain air supperiority over this naval base.

(2) XXV Army Report:

91st Naval Guard with an AA Batallon will garrison Georgetown.

(3) 5th Air Division & 23rd Air Flotillas Report

50 G4M1 and 3 G3M2 have take off from Takao to attack USAFFE HQ. 1 P-40 downed and 168 casualties reported in this ground unit.
21 G3M2 attacked 71st P.A.Division at Manila. 54 casualties were reported.
A third wave with 24 Ki-27, 16 Ki-51, 6 Ki-36, 27 Ki-30 and 22 Ki-48 have attacked 51st P.A.division. One P-40 was downed and 84 casualties reported from enemy.
An Afternoon wave with 8 G4M1 heavily escorted by 27 A6M2 have attack Cavite Naval Yard, reporting 1 bomb hit on xAP Neptuna and another hit on XAP President Madison. 8 enemy ships reported docked.

2 A6M2 intercepted two waves of SOC-1 trying to attack our shippings at Mauban. 2 enemy SOC were downed.

76th I.F.Chutai have been transfered to Bayombong to Aparri. From there this unit would be recon our next targets in Luzon.

(3) XIV Army report

Kure 1st SNLF Have captured Oroquieta
146th Infantry Regiment will departure tomorrow in Jolo Expeditionary Force under heavy cover (BAT DIV 1)

(4) Third Fleet Report.

VADM Takahashi 3rd Fleet HQ will be transfered from Takao to Hong Kong.

3rd Fleet assets will be transfered at once to Hong Kong to be ready for the Ambon Landing Expedition:

xAK Kokuryu Maru will departure from Batangas after this port have been raided several day ago for enemy fighter-bombers. She will head unescorted to Hong Kong.

(5) 2nd Fleet Report:

CRUDIV 7 under RADM Kurita have smashed enemy positions at Kuching. AF heavily damaged. Two hits on our cruiser but any damage (1 system on Kumano).

Mobile Force and CarDiv 3 will cover landings tomorrow. I/124th Infantry Bn will be landed like advance guard.

3 dutch bombers were intercepted by 1 A6M2 over Miri. 1 enemy aircraft was downed. No hits reported in our ships.

6 A6M2 have intercepted 3 B17 attacking CRUDIV 7. Mogami was attacked but no hits were reported.

(6) 22nd Air Flotilla Report.

30 G3M2 and 25 G4M1 have attacked 2/15th Punjab Bn positions at Kuching. 63 enemy casualties were reported.
A second wave with 32 unescorted G3M2 have attacked Sarawak Force positions at Kuching.
The third wave with 8 G3M2 have attacked the same unit reporting another 15 casualties.

Tomorrow all available bombers will support our landings at Kuching. No quarter to enemy.

heavy air losses over Cabanatuan. Surprised by 18 P-40 at CAP our air forces have lost 2 Ki-27, 5 Ki-30 and 2 Ki-48. Our pilots reported 79 ground losses over 91st P.A.Division. Our ground forces at shock attack posture and supported by heavy artillery fire have smashed 91st P.A.Division and 3nd/12th P.A. infantry Bn. 711 enemy casualties were reported by 180 IJA casualties in our Tanaka Det.

10 B-17 were intercepted over Davao skies by 6 A5M4. enemy turned back with a critical hit on 1 B-17D.

BATDIV 1 have strike Zamboanga (when we suspect enemy launched air strikes with their P-26s). At Zamboanga our recon reported a ship anchored at port. BATDIV 1 reported 1 shell hit on 1 AVD and 73 runway hits. Zamboanga airfield was absolutely destroyed by our 405mms gunfire.

Tomorrow 21st and 23rd Air Flotilla will launched air attacks over Clark and Iba AFs heavily escorted by A6M2 Type-0 Naval fighters.

DATE: Dec 31st, 1941.

W-3, W-5 and W-2 mineswepeers was sunk by coastal fire when cleaning up Kuching water from enemy mines.
CRUDIV 7 have bombed Kuching positions. 10 runway hits were reported. Tomorrow Kurita´s cruisers will bombard enemy positions and will head to Cam Ranh Bay to reload and refuel to join with 2nd Fleet Main Body in the Ambon Ops.
At Kuching, I & II/4th Bns will launch a shock attack against enemy positions at Kuching. Tomorrow will arrive to Kuchig AA elements (16th AA regiment & 44th Field AA Bn).

H6K4 have reported a hit on a enemy submarine 80 nm southeast CamRanh Bay.

A Cachalot class SS was reported hit by F1M2 from HIJMS Nachi.

(*) Circumstances

December has one week less than month planned.

(1) Success

Only 1 cargo ship was sunk by enemy submarine. 01 Aden Cargo Class when returning from Shimonoseki to Chinnampo. Another attacks were unsuccesfull or torpedo hits but no explodes (duds)
All defensive mines in our inner perimeter let us maritime corridors to transit under confidence with light ASW escort.
Deployment of several Daitais - Chutais in Korea Straits area let us to minimize enemy submarine attacks in convoy transit this maritime corridor.

(2) Setbacks

Toyohara-Toyama convoy must be cancelled due to surface enemy threat in Okhost Sea during several days.

Several Tankers could not departure from Cam Ranh Bay to Shangai or Port Arthur to join with her sisters due ASW assets to escort them unavailable (all at war missions on Malaya eastern coast or Borneo north coast). Submarine Threat in the area so high to risk this High Value Ships.

One Port Arthur - Shimonoseki Tanker Convoy must be cancelled due ASW assets unavailable and several enemy submarines spotted at Yellow Sea.
