Some observations:
I should have converted applicable ships to ap/apa types straight away instead of waiting.
I d/n use B-29s correctly early on. I should have conducted an anti-airfield campaign
against home island air fields right away and then switched to city attack.
More fighter sweeps should have been conducted early on. The amt of destroyed enemy ac on the ground shows this was profitable. Altitudes of 20k should have been used right away for bombers instead of 15k.
Taking Formosa was the proper move, although it initially proved difficult to supply at the
level required to support heavy bomber ops.
I saw no reason to invade at two diff places on Japan. I was able to move rapidly up
Kyushu with minimal land casualties. The difficulty was transporting troops to the invasion
area.
Land based fighters were sufficient to provide cover after the initial landind on Kanoya,
Once Okinawa and Amani Oshima(sp) were developed, they provided sufficent fighter
support until Kanoya and Kagoshima were developed. Iwo provided fighter support for
raids on Japan.
I was able to base BBs, CAs, etc in Japan and used them for shore bombardment,
where possible.
I established cs and auto convoys where possible and they worked well, although in some
cases they took strange paths to the destinations.
Keeping units together in their proper organization proved to be difficult later as the
offensive gained momentum on Japan. I tried to keep corps and army units together
to gey any command bonuses.
Using strategic movement by ship and then rr movement was highly useful.
My CVs were not used other than the initial landing and a raid on Tokyo. Don't
think the taxpayers got their money's worth, but I saw no reason to risk them.
B-17s, B-24s, B-32s, B-29s and Lincolns and Lancs all proved effective in ground attacks.
I was greatly disappointed in the lack of effectiveness shown by massed artillery
bombardment. There have been some posts about this,
All in all, a very entertaining scenario.
I look forward to your comments.
Thx.
