Ragoon falls at the end of March. 3 weeks beyond historical but I am not really pitted against history .. I am against a way different strategic plan.
The lines below illistrates the lines of retreat. The Prome BF's, which were BF's I rescued from Malay .., are marching hundreds of miles again toward India. I have evacuated my airbases and moved aircraft to India and Ledo.
As I have said before, this month is more about Logistics than it is about operations. I need to get forces in the right place to upgrade or the Dockyards will fill and delay upgrades.
More later ..

One good thing about the fall of Rangoon. He has to supply these forces. Subs and raiding parties will be the order of the day. Also once you get back to India supply is easier. It will be harder for him. Just watch for an Airborne assualt on one of your undefended bases. That could trap or delay your walk towards India.

I had not thought of the Airborne drop .. however my eyes are wide open now ..
Manilla fell this turn in what seems to be dark days for the Allies.
The logistical nightmare continues as I coordinate no less than 120 upgrades. I see the CV's and Subs ultra important. The submarines get Radar and that increases reaction .. sorely needed to start being more effective. This has to be balanced with keeping a submarine threat.
The Hornet was going to head into theater but I have decided to sail to San Diego for the refit. The Big E to LA and Yorktown stays at PH. She has major random flooding damage of 8% that keeps getting worse ..so PH is the ebst palce to get this fixed. Some of the DD's and CA's can sail to Seattle. Rotating forces until things get upgraded.
I have 8 ADP's shutting supplies into PM and I think a Btn out. Danage from full speed is accumulating but I have to get supplies up. It will be interesting with q3 beta if the submarines will be effective against the converted DD's. The sub parked in the perfect position over PM has been 3 for 3 [&o] ..I might have to evacuate teh two air groups as suddenly both have 12 damaged planes [&:] I guess from the lack of supply [&:]
"What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know. It's what we know for sure that just ain't so"
We have built up a level 3 airbases at Tabetuea. Ndeni, and Luganville. The plan is to continue until level 5 than build at each of these sites level 3 on the adjacent islands. That will provide three jump sttart points for whichever way this war goes. I will not spread out although .. instead one of these points either the Solomons or the Gilberts will be the main focus for 1942 - 1943. I like the Gilberts because I can cut off Ocean Island and Tarawa when the time comes. Even though my subs missed this turn I put out 12 torps at three targets. Eventually the odds will catch up.
Luganville is key to protect Suva and New Calendonia should the IJ player get overly agressive.
Otherwise forces contunue to move toward ports for the upgrades.
8 APD's are not enough to keep PM supplied. After dropping off supplies 47 were left. I have moved a DD escort and 2K supplies at Townsville for a run to PM. A 10K+ force is in the next hex moving toward PM. Its a race against time for sure.

Sure .. below is a picture of the interlocking PA search arcs of Tabetueua and Ndeni he has occupied Tulgi and as you see reinforcement into Ocean Island in response ...

Thanks for he shot. I like the way you pushed out the front to him.
TY! Level 5 airfields are critical to this plan to launch B-17's to supress airfields .. plus the surronding islands to put fighters so I do not get supressed. Tabetueua and Ndeni are such places to start.
"What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know. It's what we know for sure that just ain't so"
In repsonse to Docup I will post the victory totals as of 01 APR 1942 from WitPTracker. I think it is of note that two oilers have not been accounted for yet that previously were "on fire heavy damage" I just cannot see those oilers surviving ...
Of note is that the air war has gotten very quiet recently after we downed 86 planes in our strike on the CVL's. We are keeping the 2:1 ratio with about 1600 IJ air losses to 900 Allied losses.
We have lost 233 ships but 1/2 of those are MTB or harbor type ships. We have lost plenty of xAK's to raids and submarines. You can kind of see the trend on WitPTracker .. steady and then a raid ... steady and then a raid ..the good news is that .. KB raiding days are getting shorter. In 2 weeks I will have 5 carriers in theater that the KB will have to be concerned about .. more concerned about my moves than hunting down AK's in ports ..
May seems like a very good month to try again to invade Tarawa ...after all the upgrades and logitics are in place .. the IJ might have other plans although

Have to admit I am not very good with tracker. What ships have you lost and sunk. Whats the AC chart look like in the game menu? Thats a good ratio you got going for air results.
Below shows a good picture of the air losses. The IJA bombers at the top of the list. Most of these lost flying in poor weather and missing their escort over the target. The Nates and a few Zero's and Oscars to join the list. I feel very good about the ratios at this point.

Nice air results you got going. Your doing good in the navy dept also. What scen are you in again.
doc
We are playing a Scenario #1 offshoot ...Scenario #9 Quiet China which really pertains to the AI and China [;)] Although our China is pretty quiet.
It really started turn 1 when weather caused escorts to miss and it has snowballed from there ..
My opponet has also taken some bad die rolls early. Note the USN submaine hits on full AP's the first days of December. These forces found out they could not swim and did not invade anything .. it really delayed things in Maylay ...
It will be a very tense April and then in May .. I start looking for places to push on the big bowl of jello ..
"What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know. It's what we know for sure that just ain't so"
My opponet has decided to reinforce Ocean Island. I perceive that he is reacting to last turn his Patrol craft was shot down taking a peek at Tabeteua Island. My subs/PA reports 1 AP dropping off something. I put 4 torps into this convoy but all duds of course.
The Hornet is headed to SD and The Lady Lex is 4 days away from PH. The Saratoga is now ready at PH. The BIg E and Yorktown are down for 7 days for the 20mm refit. However, many of the CA's, CL's and DD stay in the pen for up to 28 days. These ships are critical to support any serious CVTF operation. Still I can field 2 CV's if needed.
A very interesting bad die roll disaster occured last turn:
TF 92 encounters mine field at Manila (79,77)
Japanese Ships
DMS W-17
DMS W-14, Mine hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
DMS W-11
26 mines cleared
TF 92 encounters mine field at Bataan (78,77)
Japanese Ships
DMS W-17
DMS W-14, on fire, heavy damage
DMS W-11
18 mines cleared
---------------------------------------------
TF 449 encounters mine field at Bataan (78,77)
Japanese Ships
xAKL Korei Maru, Mine hits 1, heavy damage
xAKL Suez Maru, Mine hits 1, heavy damage
xAKL Tama Maru, Mine hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
---------------------------------------------
TF 92 encounters mine field at Bataan (78,77)
Japanese Ships
DMS W-17
DMS W-11, Mine hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
28 mines cleared
So in short -- clearing the Phillipines of mines cost the IJ player 2 DMS and 3 AKL's ...[:D] Somebody's head will roll ....[;)]
I think it is far better to get an early start on the Gilberts than to get tied up in that Malaria invested sewer the Solomon's ..[Sorry Chickenboy ]My position at Tabetuea below:

Its the 3rd and I still have a lot of stuff out there to get into a port and get them upgraded. The picture below shows the delay involved after getting the ship into a proper port. Needless to say this operation will continue well into May. Hopefully I time this well so as ships leave the yard more ships will fill its place. I have focused on PH to keep ships in theater but ships are headed to SD and some will spread out to LA and SF.
I still have the West Virgina and California sitting in peerside mode at PH from the damage of December 7th. In 3 - 6 months we will have to bring these ships into the yard long enough to correct flooding issues. Then to Los Angeles to be a tourist attraction. [8D] The total time of repair is just into 1945.

"What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know. It's what we know for sure that just ain't so"
I am thinking an experienced Farrguat class DD would hold their own against a submarine .. .. The USS Smith takes one for the team and the Farragut dumps a lot of explosives over water only scaring a cople of whales:
Sub attack near Baker Island at 151,134
Japanese Ships
SS I-19
Allied Ships
DD Smith, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
DD Farragut
I have a DD at Baker Island still on fire (52) and getting worse .. that will be another DD that finds Davy Jone's locker ...
This turn we sent a BF to Attu atoll in the Alaskian chain. I will move PA forces up there to peek into Northern Japan. Dutch Harbor has a rgt coming. I also moved BF's to Tabaterua and Noumea. More moves as this week develops.
I have B-17's at Tabatuea and soon to be at Ndeni. From there they can attack Ocean Island and shake the trees a bit.
The other thing is to start staging the SS upgrades. The Radar upgrade does require a yard ...so PH it is ....
"What gets us into trouble is not what we don't know. It's what we know for sure that just ain't so"
The Farrgut was upgraded but no radar yet... the Ellen was due as was the Smith to ASW:6 +R
However, I will go on record that this is the behavor I was expecting. Not the behavior in the "offical Version". Previous IJN submarine behaivor is watching one sail through ASW nets under detection to sink an AK or AP ...now at least IJN submarines are acting a lot more sane. In this case sinking threating DD's but not insanely increasing the risk of losing the sub. This behavior is something changed between the offical patch and q3.
I have read many AAR's. I am still in question if the KB is a force of random destruction .. like using an atomic bomb on a target? or is it a mobile airbase that supports the overall expansion of the empire? or is the KB a mobile airbase in a combined arms support of the IJA? I see it as pretty invulnerable to do any of these operations well late into 1943 unless it over extends itself.... because its only achilles heel is that IJ forces lack the ability to patrol effectively deeply into Allied held areas.
While the IJN possess the most elite force in terms of destructive airpower, the Allies possess a very capable patrol force. The Catalina is the Cadillac of patrol platforms. An example is the Cat's tracking the IJN CVL's for two turns while wondering what they had in mind, and then committing CV's once they raided Baker Island. From this experince I see the ultimate restriction on the KB is sailing somewhere detected while the USN is undetected. I have awhile to ponder this as this game will take the next couple of years.
I would say historically the IJ losing the KB at Coral Sea & Midway Battles shorten the war by a year. Its a year that if modeled in the game results in a Japanese victory. I sense the Baker Island will result in much more deliberate use of the KB, rather than the historical reaction of Coral Sea, which was more agression.
I do find it intersting that in reading the AAR's that it is a common reaction when the Allies do get a swipe in that the IJ player reacts with undue haste and agression. I have yet to read an AAR in which the IJ player assumes a defensive position within their LOC with the plan of lasting until 1946. I sense from the Allied side that this will be one of those games.
More later .. this turn is all about putting base forces into positions and moving B-17's eventually to Ndeni with Fighters on the others adject two atolls ... with Ndeni almost a level 4 base its time to start thinking about establising those bases. In addition, I will move the B-26's From Ndeni to Tabeturea once that base gets level 3 status.
