Yes, I remember Red Markus said the snow offensive was way too artificial. And I agree it IS. But still, what's the big picture here? 1942. I stick to my historical comparison. The first part of the year was catastrophic for the Red Army. Literally. How many divisions are being bagged during the snow? Much less than were destroyed during that catastrophe. You have of course to add the losses during the summer, true, and that could surpass -a lot- the historical losses.

Was there not a big counterattack around kharkov in march/april of 42?
I am pretty sure there was an offensive planned by the germans in that area, the russians attacked first and then the german counterattack rolled them up? (no references handy, i could be wrong)
*** edit *** i was wrong, I was thinking of the mid may battle

I have come around to "Wehrmacht too powerful in March". At first I thought it was my own tactical brilliance [:D] against Bletchley Geek, but I can see it was an easy roll.
I am on the fence whether this inbalance continues into 1942. The Germans should be able to attack, and they are now, so that's improvement. It might feel overcorrected in summer, but if the Russians get a break all March, that would probably really help them in the summer; more digging, more guys, better experience.
Maybe Baelfiin has a good idea for fix, though supplies aren't THAT limiting. Maybe the offensive CV hit should continue, but defensive one disappear in March.

Basically what happened historically during March and April of 1942 was a big stalemate; the Soviet counteroffensive ran out of gas, but the Germans couldn't do much more than mostly hold their ground and conduct short, sharp counterattacks at overextended Soviet spearheads trying to cut off the Rzhev salient and the like. That's why you got those bizarro salients, neither side could decisively bag the other.
Only in May did things start moving again and decisive actions become possible.

AGS SITREP 6-11-42
This is a precarious situation I'm facing here. I want to drive to the oil fields and take those away from Red, but I don't want to this to turn into a mobile battle. He will have the advantage of air supply with his superior air supply. The main objective of 4th Panzer Army is to cut the far east rail line to prevent any mischief.
I plan on doing a loose screen on Stalingrad, I might keep a panzer corps in reserve to assist in any sortie that Red may make once he realizes how 'loose' its going to be.

Nice!
Finally we can see a German advance in 1942 which looks like the real one!
Good luck and good hunt [8D]

I disagree with you on this Flavius, If the germans had pulled significant forces out of the line to rest and didn't expend themselves in the hold at all cost's battles of the winter then I think they should be very capable of launching an attack.ORIGINAL: Flaviusx
Presumably, he's demoralized by the snow backhand blow. Which, to be fair, is quite preposterous. We've screwed up the post blizzard recovery imo, and the Wehrmacht is doing stuff it really shouldn't be able to. Manstein pulled off this kind of thing a year later, sure, but not after the first blizzard, the Wehrmacht was in no condition to do what it is doing in seemingly every AAR.
Do you still disagree? LOL

For some reason I had been thinking the battles around kharkov in mid may ocurred in March, old age memory failure most likely. That was what I was basing my opinion on anyway.

RE: War Reports from the East Front II: Carnage vs. Redmarkus
Here is the situation. Red has decided that he can not accept the changes made to the game as they stand now. I respect his opinions and agree with some of what he is saying.
He was kind enough to pass the game on to another player if they so wish to take over the Soviet leadership.
It is the 54th turn. I will post a current order of battle/losses, current front line trace and a overview of the German Army Groups as they stand at last turn.
Fair warning from Red, Soviet command and control of forces is a bit messed up around the southern sectors and the Red Army needs some tender loving care to get it back in fighting condition.
Any player who is interested, after reviewing the situation, is welcomed to accept the challenge of continuing the game.

The entire front here has been quite since Red's limited winter offensive. Level 2-3 fortifications are all across the line on both sides.

Here is were the most recent developments have taken place. I managed...I believe...to get total shock and surprise with my newest offensive. I have breached the Soviet lines in one area and will breach the two areas next turn baring a good defensive/offensive play.

Here is where Red had tried a different strategy to save his forces from piece meal destruction. He pulled back far enough to fortify his Don River line where it would take a concentrated effort to breach. I have tried to breach the river once, but my bridgehead was mostly beaten off and I pulled back across the river to preserve my forces.
In addition Red mostly abandoned the whole southern region of the map, my recon has not shown anything but air bases so far.
