I think my record in F19 was 32 planes and 14 ground targets destroyed in one mission.
Every burst of the M61 had to be on target, but there wasn't enough fuel to do it.

So I found out to "game" the flight model... I would use the last bit of fuel to exit the North Cape area, climb to 30k ft, then flameout and glide, and dead stick land back at base.

This IL-16 disintegrated about 0.1 seconds after the screenshot was done. Thats for attempting to throw Snoopy´s aim off
with barrel rolls and scissors. Momentous touch on the trigger and she was gone. Ha!

I love the BF109 F-4. Always been one of my favourites. The combination of vertical plane and preserving E and speed advantage
is one of the most fluent and smooth ways to fight A2A.
And the F-4 flies like a dream under those circumstances, retaining the low weight of the F-2 - contrary to the G models - while
enjoying improved firepower with the 20mm.

Erkki, thanks for pointing me to 4.11, the AI really improved since the last time I played IL-2.

There's a new v4.11.1 patch. It fixes many bugs that shipped with v4.11, and further polishes some features.

Agree about the F4, though I'm torn between that and the G2. The F4 was the class of the entire 109 series, but the G2 is a markedly faster while just a bit heavier. The rot really started to set in with the confused menagerie making up the G6 series.

The G10 was very fast. I think this was Hartmann's mount.

I love that story about Hartmann where he painted a black tulip on the engine cowling of his Gustav, the Soviets started calling him Black Devil.

However, in combat Soviet fighters refused to engage him if they noticed his personal design - so what did Hartmann do, he started allocating his aircraft with the black tulip to rookies since that meant they could fly their first few missions relatively safely.

Wow, ongoing support. [X(]
And Team Deadalos calls it a 'small' patch, reminds me of this place here...

Thank you VERY much for the link, Tree! Already started wondering about the fuel pressure on the P39D.

G2 is definitely faster, and I agree it is a great fighter and extremely fun to fly in IL-2, more so in direct comparision to its competitors. But it already feels less acrobatic.

IMHO, the introduction of the DB605 already marked the decline of the 109, the airframe was simply not built for the added weight (nearly 160kg more(?)), and it just
got worse with every new version beyond the G2.

I dont like the G-2 in Il-2. I dont play at all on the more arcady DF servers(with various helps such as exterior camera views available), so to me every time I fly the G-2 my opponents are relatively much more dangerous than they are to the F-4, and the cockpit visibility is much lower with the added headrest armor. I choose F-4 because my situational awareness is higher in it so I make better decisions and stay alive longer. [:)] But if I can help it I rather pick any Fw 190(except maybe F/Gs) than the Bf 109 in post mid-1942 scenarios. [:)]

AFAIK Hartmann only flew G-6 and possibly some G-14s without the MW50 system.

On the G-6 in il2: its generally pretty well agreed to that the G-6 is not as good as it should be. The G-2 matches various IRL flight tests(on non-factory fresh machines too) fairly well, but the G-6 does not. Apparently it at least weights too much, as top speed is OK but its a real dog in climb and acceleration.

Right now the only online flight sim I play is Falcon 5 and Aces High II.

Aces High has some older graphics, but far more interesting game play, Fighters 2 has continued to get better - although the limited game play and not so dynamic campaigns are wearing thin on me.
