So, assuming the French cruisers survive the (expected) German naval impulse, what happens next turn? They cannot get to the North Sea, and there is no port that they can go to (presumably the Polish ports are out of bounds because of co-operation) but can they elect to stay and move down a box? If they can, are they disorganised (I think two are already anyway)?

I am more worried about Northern Africa. Egypt is almost emptied of forces. The French Corps in Tunisia will be needed in France.

The trouble is that it is likely to be OOS and in mountainous terrain so the Militia will have no real benefit of the extra movement.

The garrison, was in my humble opinion, in a hex more important to defend. Albeit more difficult.

But why I ask is because the Militia would have been available right away as a reinforcement since it takes only 1 turn to build. And currently there are no Nationalist Chinese that risk to be selected instead.

I should have said that you are right in that the militia is the better unit. Hence I would have preferred that one as a reinforcement.

I didn't really consider the Allied land combat dice, because I think low odds Allied counter-attacks early in the game are quite ill-advised. They are usually more likely to advance the Axis timetable than restore the Allied position. Throw an 8, 9 or 10 and they look brilliant - for an impulse. Anything less and they are more of a benefit to the Bad Guys. The best Allied play early is to just stubbornly hold in front of the perceived Axis objectives with plenty of cheap infantry and anti-armor bonus units, and not picking up the attack dice. It's kinda boring, but Strategy should not be based on excitement.

The attack in Poland, should it succeed in getting all three Polish reinforcements on the board, was probably worth it, as with the attack in Algeria. Stalin should monitor Poland closely and move in to East Poland only when there is any risk of Warsaw falling before the end of the turn, and there are the most chits to pull from the USA pool, maybe you can lose a low one that way.

The most important luck is re: US Entry, then weather, then land combat and TRS hunting. I've seen a Fall Gelb give the USA an entry level of 30 vs. Euro-Axis at the end of 1939, more than once. So far the Axis have had the better luck in this game, though they probably don't think so.
