The 4th Cruiser Division, on high alert, watching and waiting for any enemy ships leaving Baltic ports, head in the direction of smoke on the horizon....

I take that as a yes to initiate combat. Any preference on which cruiser initiates combat?

You take it correct. No real matter which one - let's plump for the Flagship of the division, Duquesne.

The French cruisers find and damage the German convoy which retreat to home waters.

Edit: Allied rolled 3 and Axis 2.

Right, I 'm heading out for about 90 mins. When the French find, they stick around to the end no matter what happens or who brings in what. There is no more time for Mr Nice Guy.

Edit: Too late. I say, well done French people, well done indeed, what?

Right. So they do not abort after sending the German CPs to port?

Edit: Never mind. There was no opportunity to abort.

It was actually a three but, sadly, that was low enough.

Japan rail one MAR from Korea to central China.

German units march into Denmark and occupy Copenhagen.

A few Japanese units advance a hex, or two, towards the Chinese

Japan rebase a bomber from the North front in China to the central front.

Japan use a TRS to reorganize the marine in Hangchow.

On a die roll of 5 the turn continues (30% chance that the turn ended).

S/O 39 Allied 11

No DoW or alignments.

CW, France, USSR combined. China land. US pass.

CW sends out convoys from UK and Gib to Cape St Vincent to replace some of the recent losses.

The French Eastern Mediterranean fleet sorties into the East Med. For expediency, I decline the intercept as if I was playing as Axis I wouldn't be bothered about the fleet moving on. It stays in the 3-box.

North Sea is declined for combat, leaving ...

The CA Dupleix is sent ahead to scout for the Italian cruisers.

Flush from their recent success against the Royal Navy, the Italian squadron is caught unawares by the French (Searches Allies 2, Axis 10). All 7 surprise points go to increasing damage. How do the Italians wish to place these (Allied losses will be X 3A)?

Zara and Eugenio takes hits.

Italians abort after first round to the port where all other ships are.

The Italian cruiser Eugenio Di Savoia takes the brunt of the opening French gunfire and is reduced to a blazing wreck. The Italians retire behind a smoke screen laid by the cruiser Zara, which is heavily damaged in the process. It's gallant action allows the Italians to escape as the French, having suffered damage of their own, decline to pursue in limited visibility.

Having led the charge, the French cruiser Dupleix becomes the main focus of the Italian response. Struck repeatedly, she sinks beneath the waves. Minor damage is also caused to the cruiser Suffren, forcing it back to Beruit.

The surviving French fleet remains on station whilst the Italian fleet flees back to Trieste.

CW rails IV MOT from Brest to Calais.

S/O 39 Axis 13

No DoW

Germany naval, Italy and Japan land.

Germany sends all Kriegsmarine ships and subs to seas (excepxt 2 range subs). Subs goes to North Atlantic and 4x CP + all SCS to Baltic Sea.

Just notices that Germany has 2 CPs in Kiel. In the future aborting CPs from Baltic Sea always goes to Memel/Königsberg where they are safe from port attacks.
If your attack is going really well, it's an ambush.
