Stalin was well served by his generals. A concentrated force of powerful Soviet armor smashed through south of Stuttgart and on to attack a fully loaded airfield. 45 flights of Wellingtons were operating out of this base and over the course of the month the defenders were not able to hold the Red Tanks off. This serious loss has the RAF demanding better security, and more remote basing. The attack will make UN air forces rethink basing.

The Soviet forces who entered Afghanistan are nearly wiped out. The British had long prepared for an incursion there and the Soviets had fewer units. The paucity of Red Army units allowed the British to exploit the gaps created as the Russians advanced.

The Soviets did not see the situation clearly and the light recon did not warn them.
