Allied PTs give themselves up to hold off Japanese TF in Night Time Surface Combat near Balikpapan
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Naval bombardment of Balikpapan shuts down the place and destroy more kegs of Lager.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Ground forces attack at Samarinda
560 Japanese casualties reported
38 Allied casualties reported
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese ground forces continue to shell the city of Homan, China.
84 Allied casualties reported
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Ground forces attack at Taiping
1069 Japanese casualties reported
492 Allied casualties reported
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese and Allied ground forces continue to swap Bombardment punches at Singapore
10 Allied casualties reported from Japanese shelling.
The Allied shelling generates 20 Japanese casualties and 2 Allied casualties this time.
Is this self-inflicted, or are they simply going mad and shooting their own now?

That was my thought. It's kinda funnier to think that they've gone insane and started shooting each other though in a Sgt Bilko way... [;)]ORIGINAL: Mogami

MOGAMI STEALS DADMAN'S LUCKY RABBITS FOOT!!
13 FEB 42
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An Aussie/Kiwi CA/CL/DD force crept up on Guadalcanal to welcome the Japs to the South Pacific. What they find is a nice surprise.
Night Time Surface Combat, near Lunga, 1 AP and 1 PG are sunk, 1 AP on fire
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unfortunately, there is a pretty sizable CD unit on the island and all the cruisers took damage
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Allied B-17 Fortress Day Air attack on Amboina. This is a suppression effort on my part. For the reason why, read below
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese G3M Nell Day Air attack on Baker Island. The raid is 50+ planes and lays waste to the place.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Allied T.IVa Day Air attack on TF near Balikpapan and score a torpedo hit on BB IJN Nagato. She is also hit by a bomb from a Martin 139 later in the day…
I’ll bet that didn’t tickle.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speaking of tickles…
Allied Sub O19 attacks at Carrier 60nm SSW of Kendari. The victim is CVL IJN Shoho, with 2 Torpedo hits. She’s on fire with heavy damage.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have been raiding Jambi, 180nm N of Palembang with P-40E Warhawk for about a week now, just because I can. He was basing KI-43 Oscars there until today, when I found an A6M2 Zero group there. I guess I can stop raiding now…
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Ground forces CAPTURE Balikpapan!!!
He wasn’t fooling around. He used an entire Division to do it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese ground forces continue to shell the city of Homan, China.
119 Allied casualties reported
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Air and Ground forces continue to Bombard Clark Field and Manila

Japanese and Allied ground forces continue to swap Bombardment punches at Singapore

108 Japanese casualties reported

MOGAMI STEALS DADMAN'S LUCKY RABBITS FOOT!!
For better than the last week, I've known that Mogami had 2 carriers (Akagi and Kaga of CarDiv One) supporting the operation to capture Kendari. When other carriers of his struck Baker Island near the Gilberts, I only counted 2 (CarDiv Two - Soryu and Hiryu). I saw this as a great opportunity to mass a strike at his carriers.
Two days later, I discovered the last 2 missing carriers (CarDiv 5 Shokaku and Zuikaku). They were operating with CarDiv Two in the Gilberts! Too strong a force at this stage of the game. I tried to let myself be seen near the Solomons, and then turned tail for Kendari. I felt I could at least approach and throw a little scare into him.
Two days ago, I paused my carrier force to refuel, then charged toward CarDiv One, now operating between Macassar and Baliklipapan.
I plotted my force's course to use the cover of weather (he may have spotted me on approach yesterday) so as to wind up within 120nm of his force and launch full strikes. Somehow, he managed to pass me going the other way under the cover of darkenss! His Carriers are now 120nm E of Kendari, headed East, and by my guess running hard, trying to lure me into LBA range.
He must have spotted me coming because, DAMN IT! I HAD THOSE CARRIERS DEAD TO RIGHTS! Now I must run for my life and find another rabbits foot to rub...
God I love this game.

DADMAN FINDS NEW LUCKY RABBITS FOOT!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Allied B-17 Fortress Day Air attack on Kendari, hitting the runways
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Day Air attack on 6th Chinese Cavalry Corps 60mi W of Changsha and blows up a few people.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Ki-30 Ann and Ki-48 Lily Day Air attack on 51st PA Division at Manila
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BATTLE OF KENDARI.
The two carrier forces that had been casting about for one another for the past several days finally came to grips with each other.
Saratoga, Yorktown, and Enterprise finally caught up to Akagi and Kaga as the IJN's CarDiv One tried to escape from their support position off Baliklipapan via the northern Banda Sea at Kendari. Both sides got off full strikes from a distance of a mere 60nm that were devastating:
The first strike package was SBD Dauntlesses of VS-3 and VB-3 (Saratoga) along with TBD Devastators of VT-3 (Saratoga) and VT-6 (Enterprise) that set HMIJS BB Hiei on fire with 4 1000lb bomb hits, CV Kaga taking 1.
The second strike package was SBD Dauntlesses of VS6 and VB6 (Enterprise). They laid the hurt down on both Akagi and Kaga; the former shuddered under the weight of 7 1000lb bombs and the latter collected 2 more hits, setting both afire.
Strike package three was solely from Yorktown; SBD Dauntlesses of VS-5 and VB-5 as well as TBD Devastators of VT-5. This strike was deadly: CV Akagi was hit by 1 bomb and 1 torpedo; CV Kaga was bracketed by 6 more bomb hits; BB Hiei took a torpedo; and CA Tone took a 1000lb bomb hit.
Meanwhile, the American carriers were not unnoticed. A huge strike package from Akagi and Kaga arrived, and proceeded to pummel the first carrier they found. Unfortunately, and perhaps with poetic justice, VAdm Bill Halsey’s beloved Enterprise was that ship…
Nearly 100 D3A Val and B5N Kate were intercepted by close to 50 F4F Wildcats. The escorting A6M2 Zeros were able to keep the Wildcats busy and mostly away from the bombers. The majority got through fighters and flak and bore in on Enterprise and her consorts, scoring with 13 250kg bombs and 5 torpedoes. She was a flaming wreck and only the waves lapping at her decks awash put out her fires before she sank. CA Pensacola also took 1 torpedo hit with CA Salt Lake City shrugging off 2 bombs.
The two remaining and undamaged American carriers unleashed a stinging backlash against anything that could be found. SBD Dauntlesses of VB-3 (Saratoga) and VB-5 (Yorktown) along with TBD Devastators of VT-3 found CarDiv One again. CV Akagi, took another torpedo, and CV Kaga 2 more 1000lb bombs.
SBD Dauntless of VS-5 found HMIJS AP Shinko Maru and set her on fire with a 500-pounder.
SBD Dauntlesses of VB-3 caught up with already damaged CVL Shoho, and nailed her with 3 more bomb hits. She later sank.
Akagi and Kaga, cannot stay afloat much longer I believe. I got what I wanted, and lost what I expected. Can’t ask for more than that…

Japanese Ground forces CAPTURE Tomini!!!
Saratoga continues the long journey to safety. Flooding still increasing and I fear is becoming progressive.
The Battle of Kendari is, in my opinion, a tactical draw, minor Allied strategic win. Ship losses fairly balanaced with a CV and CVL for Japan and one CV for the US. Each side has one other CV in peril, and Japan losing Kaga would be far more painful than the US losing Saratoga. If they don’t sink, they’re likely gone for a year to repair, putting them out of the battle during a critical time frame. This will undoubtedly hamper Japanese efforts by reducing the First Mobile Force's striking power.

A recent snippet in the ongoing Player backchannel..
Mogami: Just once I'd like to get some weather to help me out.
DadMan: Use the Force, Luke.
Mogami: Damn 2 or 3 days of bad weather and I could have saved Kaga
DadMan: That, and those 2 BBs that caught some iron… just rain of a different sort…
Mogami: bombs don't bother BB. Kaga is gone and I'm fairly certain if I had split her from Akagi and just headed for Davao she would have made it. After the first day she had less then 40 sys damage. I was just going to put the fires out........
DadMan: And the rain rain rain came down down down… I hoped I had guessed right where Kaga was going..
