I'm not sure I want to add a small craft launch facility to the Alliance BB, she's so over-gunned at this point it'll bring a tear to your eye

Offcourse, it is your project so your call. It already brings a tear to my eye - just the expectation to know that I will be flying it sometime soon.
Most heavy weapons in SS seem to be hard-point mounted, until I can get my hands on a list of weapons I may not be able to mount grasers in turrets, besides, I'm afraid if I did it would unbalance the BBs to much. I want the battleships to rely on it's battlegroup for cover, that is their weakness, almost has to be or they become to powerful, so...hardmounted grasers (a lot of them) to the front, I figure the best defense against these beasts has to be close up combat... heck the Nexus couldn't keep a Devistator cruiser in it's gun sights as it T passed her bow at 147 m/s at 27km.. perfect if you ask me...

Indeed Doctor Necromancer, and untill that changes (untill somebody sees the light and decides to make capital ship weapons on turrets - wich I think it would be smarter - specially for big ships from the cruiser onwards...) perhaps your idea is the ebst. Again it is your call.
I am already in extasy because you have decided to take this into your own hands, "litteraly".[&o]
And it is a good idea to have a BB rely on it's BG. It makes sense![:-]
I can see that with the Hegemony having more worlds they might be able to space a 'military' BB, so that's why I designed their BB this way, multi role, a wing of 6-12 fighters (not bombers) for close in work and cover, the standard massively devistating beam weapon compliment, a lighter array of both anti-ship and anti-fighter missiles than the alliance BB, with massive point defense for survivability and better command and control facilities. No, its not going to stand toe to toe with the Alliance BB (which was designed for pure fire-power), but outfit those fighters with ASM and whittle it down a bit before you get to the brute-fest portion of the battle....that to me is just sweet...

Indeed! It's so sweet! [:D][&o][8D] though 12 fighters and a few shuttles would make sense...
I donno if I can see the Zolon actually building a battleship, I see them as over-confident about their technology relying on the massive punch of their beam weapons as a way to beat down the ever-increasing size of the human vessels... donno...we'll see... imagine the suprise on that poor lone Zolon commander's erm...face... as he hits a human BB with everything he's got and it looks at him as though he were a fly....

Hmmm... the Zolon seems to be a big empire and they even seem to have the capability to devastate entire planets. The game manual suggests that the planet Nephrys on the Nephrys sector got to look like what it looks like now because of them.
I'd suggest you to go forward with the Zolon BB. By doing this you'll satisfy everybody as the Zolon are sure to have some fans among our community.
But then, it is already awesome to have a BB mod and it is your project, so your call.
But please note that Zolon ships have also kicked out human ass on Capital ship engagements so if there are BBs for the rest, there should be BBs for the Zolon as well.
hehe... sorry got carried away there....

Don't worry It all looked very credible and interesting! I got like that when I started seeing the results! [;)][:D][&o]

As I said before, it is a pleasure and an honour to receive those files (wich I am dying to try out).
For simplicity, I'd prefer to have them on the .dat format as it means only 1 file and it's very easy to use.
Nevertheless, I'll be gratefull to receive whatever you can send me![;)]

=S= and keep it up!!!

I'll try to .dat them, It's been a while since I've used the .dat converter...but i've gotten it to work in the past... I'll send you the Nexus tonight...the Grand Hemegony class BB still needs textures and .def'fing.

on the subject of shields, right now I'm using stock SS deflector shields for the BB's, again, in an attempt to keep them balanced... I'm not quite happy with the hull points for the Nexus, so I might crank them up a wee bit before I send it off to you...

Vertical fins?

Post by Diabolico »

Hmmm... just thought of something Nec : Hegemony Capital ships have ventral fins. I sugest you add a big ventral fin on the middle and the design would rock as hell!!! [;)]

Right, but there will be no BBS on TOS era, I've decided to put them in during the TMP era as I think they would not to be able to build those big things in TOS...and because the TOS SFB BBs look quite...terrible!

As for stupidities in your own country: I'll make the start.
The Germans once torpedoed a passenger liner with Winston Churchill aboard.
They fired three torpedoes, all three hit....none detonated.
I guess the Commander of the U-Boat sait something like "So much for German quality...I'm gonna go home and get a beer!"

Cool! I spent a summer a couple of years ago living in Essen (Verden, actually) working with my uncle at the University of Essen.

Oh, right to keep this On-topic:
Very nice work on those BB's! You've captured milo's varying Alliance and Hegemony styles quite well, I think.

You didnt visit wales diabolico...... you didnt mis much apart from sheep and youfind them everywhere else here..

this thread is gonna go on forever abiut arguing over wheather bs should be added and whilst theyre cool.. but your missing the point. Milo made this game as it was the type of game HE wanted too play and he didnt add bs to it during the first release and not a single one appeared on the beta or in convos on icq then chances are they still wont turn up. as stock ships. If you want them you have to make your own for the forseable futurre.... unless Milo has something up his sleave on his design sketch board., but i think hes a bit busy coding hte new engine atm.

as for the trafalgar thingy... its gonna be wafled about in circles all this year as it is the anniversary. and yes there are lots of battles we could argue about.......including hastings and agincourt, blenheim or that one that involved the americans (cant remember the name). im sure there will be many more too come. [:D]

cheers

Well...Milo does leave the option of not only Battleships, but Corvettes and Dreadnaughts as well. I do suppose Earth may have Dreadnaughts. Whether or not though Battleships will be added to the game itself..well they'll make nice multiplayer tools of destruction..speaking of which, how does one connect to the Eurosever? Cant seem to find the specific info for it anywhere.

I'm sure BBs and all the other classes represented are missing and it will only be a matter of time before we have them. Sooner or later they will come.
As for Euroserver, just shut down your firewall, open SS, hit the multiplayer tab and you will see a list of recent servers. Some will show as offline and others (if you are lucky) will show as online.
Left click over the one that is online and hit join if you want to join a game as a player, or host if you want to host a game for you and any other players that may join that server.
As simple as that![;)]

Specially if they could carry fighters and small craft!
Have you noticed, when fighters are near enough of the capitalship making quantum jump, fighters tag along with it. So you can have the fighter escort for BB.

[edit]
Have you seen Pheagey-class Mass Driver? That thing is real beast! Pheagey, where's your Starshatter Dev. now?
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Nexus BB shakedown cruise

Post by Diabolico »

It was with a small tear in the corner of the eye that I fired up SS and created 2 missions to test the new Nexus class BB, brainchild of "Dr" Necromancer.

Image

These sleek lines remind us of the "Spectre" class DD in the mid bow part. The style goes well with Alliance ships and it quite blends in. In what concerns my particular taste for Alliance Capital ships, I', quite fond of the Devastator and Courageous shapes.

In the first mission I've putted the Nexus against a Devastator class CC.

Image

I was impressed by the point defense in the BB wich got all of the incoming missiles.

Image

I did get the devastator, as you can figure out by the pic above.
Next on the list was a carrier Vs BB mission. Here is what the nexus looks like when compared to other stock ss ships :

Image

Image

The battle raged high and the enemy carrier jumped out sector.

Image

I had 2 remaining DDs with me and I eventually found my enemy CV to find out that it outrunned my BB, after my 2 escorting DDs left me.

The BB worked fine in what concerns weaponry. I think this is ok. It's well balanced with the other stock SS capital ships.
Nevertheless stock SS Capital ships (even the big cruisers and carriers) turn on the "snap" and have higher accelaration rates.
I was expecting a less manoeuverable ship but I think it is sluggish, as it moves a lot less than a carrier.
Perhaps if this BB had half of the movement and accelaration rates of a Dragon or Archon CVs it would be perfect!
Again, this is Necromancer's baby so it's his call.
It was great fun to have stock SS BBs flying around though! Thank you so much for that Nec!!![&o]
Dying to test the Hegemony and other BBs, as well as any upgrades you see fit to the Nexus class [;)]!

Thanks Diabolico!
I too did quite a bit of testing this weekend with the Nexus (and the Grand Hegemony) The Nexus is quite sluggish, I'm going to remedy this a wee bit over the course of the next couple of days as I finish up the GH, one problem though, I'm still lacking a list of stock weapons to mount any point defense on the GH, so right now she's a sitting duck...mind you a very powerful sitting duck, but without PD she's totally dependant on her escorts.

The weaponry mounted on the Nexus is very effective, and she'll hull a DD in short order even with her aft Point Defense given the oppertunity, but she's got one weakness, her sides... several times this weekend I was able to slip in beside her and pound away for quite a while before she could get a gun on me, she'll probably remain fairly sluggish in the turning department, but I had planned on cranking up her main drive power a bit... I'm also going to make the outboard grasers a bit easier to damage... only because they're outboard.

As far as the Grand Hemegony goes, she's got 3 torpedo tubes, 2 Mk7 interceptor launchers, 8 Gamma Lasers, and an as of right now, an un-determined amount of point defense. I've also added the capacity to launch both fighters and LCA, her standard compliment should be 12 fighters and 2 LCA, expect her to be sluggish also... I'll post some pics of the GH later this evening once I get home from work.
