Hi, Ravinhood, and thanks for the welcome. [:)]

The thing is, these sort of games are ripe for computerisation - people like us are not intersted in super-3D graphics etc; we just want a computer to do all the number-crunching for us. Like how many hexes can my squad go. Over marshland. Carrying an MMG. When fatigued. And under a foreign NCO..... [:D] etc. etc.

Bismarck, too, would be ideal for PC. Then you could play solo, searching the north Atlantic for it (or being searched for!). And as for those battle calculations...! Which way is the target going? Which way are you going? Are you being fired upon? etc etc!

Buy Squad battles.

-Carrier strike...the market really needs a tactical carrier battle game. I would like to see an editor, a campaign editor, a better surface vs surface engine and so on....

How about Ironclads. Was a boardgame that covered the Civil War naval conflict. Several scenarios. Sure was fun to ram those Union ships.

Never made into a computer game (only a terrible version of Star Fleet battles) but Task Force Games's "Federation and Empire"
As for computer games, Red Lightning would be nice.

In 1981 the Warp Factor was a good Starfleet Battles clone for the apple. It was SSI's second game released after tigers in the snow. Its been unfortunate that the only SfB remake went realtime 3D first person ship simulator. Sure it was pretty enough but the game was not really meant to be that way.

This would be a good candidate for some independants to recreate a hex game that missed its calling in the 486 days.

A few off the top of my head:

X-Com
Balance of Power
Conquest of the New World
Imperialism II -- leave the AI alone, though.

Ah yes, Yaquinto Games I believe! Actually, I would like to see a naval simulator series for different eras along the lines of games iike Ironclads. The point and click games like "Age of Sail" while fun to play are too much of a "clickfest" once you get beyond a couple of ships.

I would like to be able to give orders to each individual ship's commander and then watch it all execute in real time action until I paused for another round of orders.

there was an old apple 2 game called fighter command. it was you being the raf and battling the blitz. you had to do alot of the logistics on a board with counters, i would love to see it remade. ssg and even grisby tried the same idea, but fighter command was a great game.
also, over at the octopus overlords site there are links to "dosbox" which a lot of people are having a lot of success with running old dos games under xp.

Fighter Command was on the Commodore 64 also. Yes great game. I played the heck out of it and "Europe Ablaze by SSG", SSI did Fighter Command I believe.

I want the WWI "EAGLES" by SSI redone first though, I'm desperate for a good tactical WWI airwar game and I'm tired of the slow play of Blue Max online.

Wish my ole Amiga still worked, I'd pull out "WINGS" and play that through again, it was arcadic, but, it was fun. ;)
WE/I WANT 1:1 or something even 1:2 death animations in the KOIOS PANZER COMMAND SERIES don't forget Erik! ;) and Floating Paratroopers We grew up with Minor, Marginal and Decisive victories why rock the boat with Marginal, Decisive and Legendary?

Have you seen Wings over France? A bit expensive for what it is but beggars can't be choosers.

Yeah Wodin I've seen it, wasn't impressed, there's no "tactical" combat, it's all AI controlled, merely selecting which plane to attack doesn't hold much value with me. I want a more Blue Max/Eagles type of WWI airwar game. I want to loop the loop and barrel roll, dive and climb, spiral out of control, lol heck even the old Milton Bradley "Dogfight" game was more fun than Wings over France.

MB Dogfight... loved that game... along with MB Broadside and MB American Civil War. Dogfight and Broadside got most of the playtime though. Civil War was just too unrealistic though.

Don't forget the 4th one in that series--Hit the Beach--which was probably the most unrealstic of the four...

I LOVED the way you removed the masts from the ships in Broadsides--it was so cool having those plastic miniatures to play with!

Great Naval Battles of the North Atlantic...this was a good one...just think of the upgraded graphics etc...once you have the basic game done you can do a Jutland Mod for it.

Tanaka said earlier in this thread get the rights to MOO III and re do the dang thing...you want a 4X classic redo this mess

a non war/space kinda game I always loved was Capitalism...an accountants wet dream..LOL

I loved Great Naval Battles of the North Atlantic! Didn't care for II and III as much though. It would be ideal for a WWI naval simulator though. Perhaps with the ability to map out tactics for various divisions (vital for a huge fleet action) while still letting you jump into a turret and fire off a few salvos!

I'm also thinking back to Avalon Hill's Jutland game. While crawling around on the floor with cardboard ship counters and movement gauges got a bit hard on the knees, elbows, and back [;)] what I really remember from that game was the pre-game mapping of your battle plans by both sides. Then the overlayed plot sheets were held up to the light to determine where your fleets would encounter each other. I would definitely want that kind of strategic planning option included in a new game.

AH's The Third Riech, though I'm thinking Gary Grisbys Waw might be a better game! At least from the first look at the screen shots it seems to be.

"War in Flames" is gonna be the killer when it's finally released 4 years from now. lol

And yeah Broadsides was a lot of fun, shame I lost a bunch of the masts over the years, Dogfight and Broadsides got played the most though, I also had "Battle-Cry" the Civil War game by Milton Bradley, actually still have it in good shape, it didn't get played much and "Hit the Beach" lol, that was horrible. Glad I didn't buy that one.

Ok my 2 or 3 cents.

Xcom of course, probably my all time fav computer game, only one to cost me a GF and a job.
No Greater Glory type civil war game. I liked the political aspect but of course the military aspect was a joke.
Take the MOO frachise away from those who gave us MOO III.
Oh and Emperor of the Fading Suns, I know there is a group out there trying to remake that one, it was probably no 2 on my list.

I can think of no other game more worthy of a remake or a better space/sci-fi setting than the Fading Suns. An incredibly rich universe, the dark gothic setting. The orginial had an incredible amount of promise. It is ashame that Matrix's effort with Holistic Design, the company that has the intellectual property rights for the Fadings Suns, and Emperor of the Fading Suns were unable to complete the attempt at finally finishing the Noble Armada game. A shame really.

I think there could be immense potential if you married the Fading Suns universe and took elements from Paradox Entertianment's Crusader Kings and you could have a very interesting game. In particular if you throw in star-ship design like the MOO series of games, and Space Empires. That could be an incredible game.
