If you start hearing banjo music on the way south, start veering north.

RE: THE THREAD!!!
February is almost over, but it continues to make it's presence felt.
We lost another member of The Greatest Generation this morning. I have no URL link to a news story to post, as I don't think it has made any of the papers.
Paul Sorrentino, a veteran of the 29th Infantry Division and the D-Day landings, and my Poppy, moved on to the next stage of his journey this morning, after spending 91 years in this stage. He was a character on this stage in every aspect of the word and he truly LIVED his 91 years.
I'm having a shot of the best rum in the world (a double as he would have wanted it [:D] ) in his honor, ironically at 1111 hours local. If any of my Brothers get a chance sometime today, please drink to his service with me.
Poppy, we were lucky to have you in our lives and we will miss you!

no need to be sorry. It's good information to know. I think though that i will spend at least the first days of my new era of "time on my hands" with my bud in Houston and his family.....if nothing else it will help me clear my head....not to mention ingest some Jack Daniels.
Its by no means certain that i will set up camp there permenently. If nothing else....i figure its along the way to the east coast and i've never been to the deep south before. ROAD TRIP!
Sounds good. You've certainly earned a chance to just rest and relax for a bit without the pressures of life. Good time to meditate on what you want to do.
Sorta like someone kicked your reset button and now you need to figure out which partition to boot from. [:'(]

I will raise one to him tonight, for sure. Sorry about your loss, but he sure had a good run it looks like.

Thank you, my Opponent-Brother! [8D]
It's amazing how quickly a double (closer to triple as the bottle was almost empty) shot of rum will go to your head on an empty stomach! [:D]

He wasn't a vet (i think) but he was an important part of my childhood. My dad emailed me and my brother yesterday to inform us that our family Pastor [long since retired] whom we spent our formulative years listening too and whom i was under for Confirmation....passed away the night before. I was bummed. He was the archtypical minister.....a strong and good person. [:(]

Sorry to hear you have lost another piece of your past, Nik. This month will go down in the Lore of THE THREAD!!! as a very turbulent one, but keep in mind not all turbulence is bad. It's very likely that getting jostled out of our old ruts will be very healthy for us going forward.
BTW Nik, my loving wife is still securely by my side, thank God, but I'm with you on the job front. Yesterday was my last day at my old job. It's going to be a very good opportunity for me to move on to something I love even more, and we still have our security, but it's stressful none the less. If you do decide to migrate in our direction, it would be awesome, but you'll have to get in line behind me for a job! [:'(]

Ironically, there is. My friend was part of FEMA for a while. They are planning for it. They just don't know when it'll occur....but it will sooner or later....thats why there's all the hand wringing out her regarding the ancient Highway 520 floating bridge and the equally aged Alaskan way Viaduct downtown (highway 99) [X(]
