I so want to see it hit 500 pages!

Stick around, Zovs, and you'll likely see it. This is actually the 8th (maybe 7th) edition of THE THREAD!!! 3 in the old WitP forum and now 4 editions in the AE forum have been intentionally closed after they hit 1000 pages. Longer than that, and the forum software started choking on it.

Literally, there have already been over 7000 pages of THE THREAD!!! already. [8D]

Hunkered down here in NC, waiting for a potentially significant ice story starting overnight. Coupled with very high winds tomorrow afternoon, .25 - .5 inches of freezing rain on the trees will make for some very dangerous roads and widespread power outages. We'll see how well our new development holds up on the power availability. In the development all the lines are buried, but it's overhead lines along the roads that bring the electricity to the development. That is where our vulnerability will be. We're ready with plenty of food and water, as well as the gas fireplace for heat if we need it.

If you were to have your power coming into a battery bank, that would both act as an emergency storage as well as a current moderator so you would be less likely to get power fluctuations.

Ok, I'm quoting myself. [:D]

But I have to change my assessment of the likelihood this edition of THE THREAD!!! will make it to 500 pages. I think the forum is falling apart after reading through the main AE forum. It's really sad, as this has completely been my "home on the internet" since 2004. These days it's just the same, just as bad, as the rest of the world wide web. At this point I give reaching 500 pages a 50/50 chance at best, before the cobwebs are the only thing filling the silent halls of what used to be a great and vibrant WitP/AE forum. [:(]

True, but none of that here. [:D]

That is one possibility. I hope that it does not happen.

I always, or as long as I can remember, been stating that things get better for every year that pass. At least on average.

But now I wonder.

Here the reserve officers are called in for the first time in a very long time. And our 'rapid defence team' (not actually called that) has been deployed to key defensive positions. I am glad that the increased thread level is not ignored. Not that it will make any real difference if it comes to that.

Anyway. Better not write more since it might get hot for this forum. Just wanted to say that our military has felt the need to deploy some forces for the first time since the cold war ended.

There were some pictures online of the mobilisation in 2018. The average forumite here looks like a lean, young, killing machine in comparison.
Sweden apparently also mobilized it's native production tank regiment to protect a local church . Good to see.

Wait until you go to get in your vehicle which is covered in a quarter inch of ice! It takes forever with a hair dryer to melt enough ice to open the door! And if you don't have genuine snow brush with ice scraper, getting the windows cleared will take a while. Hint - you need something plastic that is strong enough to chip at it. Credit cards fold after a short period so see if your kitchen has a plastic utensil that will do it.

You can buy covers for the windshields to prevent the ice build up - or doesn't it get that cold and snowy where you are in Big Canada Land?

We know how to deal with it, but in North Carolina ...
