on the way to Lingayen´s beaches we have to pass through San Fernando´s hex and meet a dozen barges that are easily sunk at long range... very long range for a night engagement and really small targets, while I don´t know if size does matter in terms of being easily or harder to hit...

here we go, we start with failed escorts mixed with our Cap as all the carriers are sitting in the invasion hex (yes, not only the CVE but also the CV/CVL TFs)... talk about numerical advantage and add in the never ending dive (never ending due to the numerical advantage) and look at the result...

then the first strike shows up (I didn´t really expect the enemy to attack us to be honest) and I´ve thought it would only be a sweep of failed escort but in fact we saw fighters in the kamikaze role being escorted... all but two were shot down and those missed the CVE... but again the CVE were targetted which unfortunately happens most of the time in this PBEM which is a little problem as the CVE TFs are by far not as potent as the CV TFs...

thought the strikes would be by far too small to have any chance of getting through but this time no less than 7 Frank kamikaze broke through our fighter umbrella and again aimed at the slow and helpless CVE instead at one of the high value TFs... 6 missed but one crashed into Bismarck Sea and knowing the Frank carries quite a bomb load I´ve expected heavy damage... more about that later...

more strikes coming in being launched from several bases on Luzon... the number of fighters on Cap is quite impressing considering we´ve placed everything in a base hex... still, the numbers won´t tell you everything as usually you end up with only a fraction of these fighters attacking a strike (which is good IMO, so don´t take that as the usual rant)... this time nothing got through to the ships, a couple of enemy fighters survived...

clear hex and probably not really high forts means it´s undefendable and the ground troops suffer from my air attacks... it´s not going to be a problem to take the base tomorrow... the airforce already proved earlier to be very potent in ground attacks if the enemy is sitting in clear hexes, also low fortification levels don´t seem to help then, level 8 or 9 might be different but I always take a wooden/jungle hex over a clear terrain hex with level 4-7 forts...

only two small strikes in the afternoon as that´s all the IJ was able to send at the fleet... I would either try to send everything I´ve got, well knowing I would lose hundreds (if not over a thousand ac) in one day, or not send anything as it´s just not worth the losses... result for the IJ today were lots of losses and a Frank kami that hit a CVE, damage unknown at this stage of the turn...
