Orm wrote: Sat Apr 30, 2022 7:51 am I do have one pondering after reading this. What is the downside to convert the trees to firewood at this point and let it dry out on the yard. Wouldn't this reduce the risk of the Callery Pear establishing on other locations in the area? Maybe where the land owner has no realistic way to remove them?
Hey Orm, if I get what you're asking correctly, yes cutting down all the remaining Callery Pear trees in the rear of the property now would help reduce the spread of them. There are still some on my neighbor's property but not too many in the vacant field on the other side of our property. Until a few months ago, that was an active cattle grazing field, so they never got started there. I do intend to cut down and kill the stumps for the remaining trees with herbicide, but at my own pace with my chain saw. I didn't want to pay more than was needed right now to have the mulcher clear the rest of it. Keeping everything that is now cleared properly mowed and maintained will prevent them from spreading onto any other parts of my property. Clearing back as far as we did and opening up the yard was the primary goal for having the mulcher come in and do it much more quickly than I'll be doing it.

Thank you, USSAmerica, for telling me your thinking.

The subject interests me for some reason. Find it fascinating. Therefore I am very grateful of telling us about it, and for clarifying the few things that I did not fully understand.

Thank you. :)

Had a very fun and long day of running trains with my club at a train show held at the NC State Fairgrounds today. I also picked up a couple of new cars from one of the sales tables. :D

The Stanley Cup Playoffs start tonight and I'm going to my first Hurricanes game in person in over 2 years tonight against the Boston Bruins. I'm a tad excited.
