ThunderLizard11 (axis) [WIN] vs. Manager (allies) [LOSS] - Axis wins by default as Manager failed to take a turn for over a month or communicate that he would be out for an extended period. Axis had quickly disposed of Poland and was hammering France when Manager ghosted.

ThunderLizard11 (axis) [WIN] v. firsteds (allies) [LOSS]. Allies resigned Dec' 45. Great game with excellent turn returns by firsteds (2-3 per day). Allies went with a Pacfic first strategy. Japan was crushed and folded up mid-44. However, by then Germans had taken down Russia and became fortress Europe. Allies tried landings in Italy (for the second time) and Western Europe but were slaughtered by Panzers and Stukas. Germans also took back Turkey which was flipped with diplo by Allies and then retook Persia and Syria. Interesting moves by firsteds was to take out Italy early and do early Western France landings which gave Russia big morale boosts. Overall great game by firsteds.

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
Thanks ThunderLizard. Great game. My poor Russians really suffered - the Anglo-French expedition to Finland succeeded (!!!) and Russian mobilisation sat at just 8% for a year. Nightmare. Won't do that again. I also forgot to upgrade logistics and it took ages for the Allies to transfer experienced units from the Pacific to Europe. Advice to players attempting Pacific First - put plenty of research chits in logistics! Not that Pacific First is a winning strategy anyway, but it is a lot of fun.ThunderLizard11 wrote: Fri Mar 01, 2024 3:24 pm [ELO ended]

ThunderLizard11 (axis) [WIN] v. wirkey (allies) [LOSS]. Allies resigned Dec' 45. Allies went with a quasi-Pacfic first strategy, retaking Burma, Philipines, DEI and all islands. Germans took Russia in '44 and crushed several incursions into fortress Europe while overunning Iberia and retaking N. Africa, the ME, Saudia Arabia and India. UK finally threw in the towel in Dec '45 when their morale dropped to zero. Overall great game by wirkey.

ELO ended:
Firsteds (Allies) defeated Harris45 (Axis). A massive counter attack in the Pacific split the Japanese Empire into small pieces. Axis was threatening in Russia but the overall Axis position was poor. Axis resigned in 1943 I think after Italy surrendered. One of those slightly messy games with low supply troops and mistakes on both sides.

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
Game ended May 47 with Axis Tactical Victory. A great game that could have gone either way. Thought I'd lost when US Paras took out Romania & Hungary in Feb 44 but managed to hold on. Thought I'd lost again when I left Hamburg open in Dec 46 and the Allies flooded in and also landed in Stetin.New ELO game begins:
HarrySmith (Allies) vs Petedalby (Axis)
Usual ELO rules + the following:
- No exp farm
- No Italian Naval out of Med before DoW
- No DoW on Japan until PH
Harry is a great guy to play with regular turns & excellent comms.
Final position around Berlin:

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
One of the most enjoyable games I have played and being extremely rare to go to the end. The game swung back and forwards throughout with us both making some mistakes that the other would capitalise on. Throwing 17 air attacks on Berlin in the last turn barely affected his army unit there after negating his air defence units beforehand. A very competitive game and Pete is a great guy to play.petedalby wrote: Mon Mar 11, 2024 7:30 amGame ended May 47 with Axis Tactical Victory. A great game that could have gone either way. I was stupid in thinking the game was finished the second last turn as for any who haven't gone the distance in the game. The last ten turns you get a message stating 10 turns to go down to one turn to go. This appears before you start each turn. As it said one turn to go before you have your turn I thought well this is the last turn. There is a 0 turn to go message for the last turn. Personally I feel this is quite confusing in how it is written and hence can lead to making mistakes. I think the developers should change the wording to 'This is your 10th last turn' and so forth down to this is your last turn.

ThunderLizard11(Axis)[WIN] v. Worr (Allies)[LOSS] - Allies resigned in Jan '42. Axis Barbarosa going strong with Kiev and Sevastopol occupied and Panzer heading toward Caucasus oil fields. Brits bottled up in Egypt with Italians closing in from the west and south on Cairo. Yamamoto was poised to broadcast Tora! Tora! Tora! and unleash attacks through Asia as the Light of Asia was about to be unleashed. Worr played well for a newer player and had a excellent turn return rate of 3-4 per day.

ELO ended:
Zarevic (Axis) [LOSS] vs. Pekkavilamoura (Allies) [WIN]
Game ends March 1947 with Japanese surrending.
Axis didn't really get Barbarossa rolling, didn't reach any of the big three. Soviets attacked in Finland and started massing troops there. After 2 years of fierce fighting around Helsinki it fell, from there on things started to go in Russia's favor.
In the Pacific there was a major sea battle, JIN sunk more battleships but lost more carriers than the US. Then it was island hopping until A-bombs started falling late '46.
Overlord met a very solid defense, it was more than once that the Allies were almost thrown back to the sea, it took some 6 months to establish the bridgeheads.
Paris only fell mid '46, but by then the Soviets had an impressive number of armies steamrolling into the Reich and Berlin fell beg. '47.
Zarevic is an excellent player with the principle attack is the best defence, doing it very effectively.
Great game.

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
[WIN] ElvisJJonesRambo (Axis) vs FreddieGraves1 (Allies) --- Allies surrender June 1942. Introduced a new player to the league, he's got game. Freddie was able to keep Finland outta that war, that annoyed me, for sure, wanted to try a new plan there. Instead, we quickly turned to prepare for different type of work counter-punch. Most players new to 1 v 1 aren't ready for quick Axis power. The Chinese were first to experience this. With many more games and few years ahead, there are certain know supply areas & ways to attack. Japanese were carving President Xi to pieces. IJN hadn't faced the USN, but everything was comfortable in the Pacific (unlike my last 2 games, were I got Pacific First slaughtered).
Axis had a nice position working out of Sicily that had to be bothering the Allies. Put a couple Nazi fighters with HQ behind Fortress Walls. With the assistance of Maritime Bomber (Nazi and Italian). Naval is the first place that can give a newer player problems. Counter-punch. Same with Russia, I was slow at first, but things opened up when Russia stayed too close in the South. Big counter-punch.
Will play FreddieGraves1 again upon his request. He likes the unknown of 1 v 1.

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
Allies resign in spring 1945 with morale flagging. Successful early all-of-France and Mediterranean conquest led to a fairly smooth Barbarossa campaign. Caucasus force later liberated Persia and Middle East, then split to take India (resignation happened first) and poised to re-enter N Africa. Allies retook North Africa earlier with a costly, lengthy battle. IJN was soundly trounced trying to eliminate the British fleet in the Indian Ocean, with land-based bombers doing much damage. IJN never recovered strength from this. China survived defending the gates of Urumchi while the US reconquered several islands including Philippines. Japan was just barely holding them off. Great game, great opponent, and looking forward to the rematch.
