Attacks have taken many of the peripheral islands toward Guam. Peliu fell and the airbases are being built up for bombers to hit Babeldaob. 2 other divisions are 100% prepped for Babeldaob on Mindano and will help take the island after Mindano falls.

Slow and steady wins the day. Nothing spectacular but nothing disastrous. NJP's Carrier forces are near Singapore with his surface fleets.
A bombardment just hit Miri which should take care of the Air Power around Northeastern Borneo. I have a 5 CV TF seeing if I can catch anything north of Borneo but he has an awesome DL of my forces so it is not likely happening. Hopefully I can keep any fuel and/or supplies from getting to the home islands.
Davao has 6 divisions on land now. 2 of them are targetted for Babeldaob. 1 will sail to Babeldaob after Mindano is conquered to finish off Babeldaob. 2 more divisions are down near Rabaul and going to be moved to Mindano ASAP for a total of 7 divisions on that island plus the 2 on Babeldaob + the one on Pelieu for a total of 10 divisions. These will be tasked to take out Luzon.
2 divisions and many armor regiments took a serious beating just crossing the river to the base Southwest of Palembang. I have another division moving in from the east from Benokelen. There are at least 4 divisions on Northern Java that can now contribute to the isolation of Palembang. I am not in a hurry to take it but would like some more opportunites to score naval points.
The divisions on Northern Sumatra are going to move to Molumein for strat move into China. Singapore will be isolated and neutralized at my leisure.
My state of play... It sucks. I am going after territory and not really going after points. Our totals have been slowly creeping toward my favor. If things stay the way they are we will be even in about a month. I have mostly been ignoring my airforce staffing which will eventually catch up with me toward end game.
Logistics are strategically disastrous with dozens of units sitting on the west cost underutilized. On the plus side there is only 1 division left there but way too many construction regiments - the 36 AV ones. 3 of those babies makes a regiment strength combat unit. I made the mistake of moving too much shipping into attack and forward supply roles and forget where they are and leave shipping in ports. The next game I play will seriously focus much more on the movement and staffing of rear areas in preparation for moving to the front. AV support is just as bad. I need to get more AV support to the front faster.
The Kuriles goes ignored although it is a perfect time to push there with the KB playing around near Singapore. No shipping to move divisions. Again, this was a strategic error as I have 2-3 divisions that have been sitting around up in Alaska since 1942 which could have been more properly utilized in other theaters. The downside to this is he gets to use airgroups that are restricted to the home islands.
Fundamentally I need to better focus my strength and move in more linear lines and not be so OCD about taking bases that are worth 1 point. I need to better plan out follow through moves like the occupation of the island east of Singapore. If I had a regiment there as support that base might still be under allied control and a real thorn in the japanese side. As it is, I lost 2 engineer units.. boo freaking hoo and now I have to deal with that island somehow. Plan is still to blob over the other islands with plenty of troops and eventually cover the area.
Overall, I give myself a B- with a heavy emphasis on the -. If this was my 2nd game it would be more of a C-. If my gains dont pick up I could lose the war but that is a very long time down the road so I am not worried about that right now.
Next Phase Objectives.. Take 2 base island near china, finish off troops in Thailand. Reduce Mindano and move on to Manila.

Cagayan falls largely due to 4 or 5 bombardments by naval forces. This ends the effective resistance on Mindano. He has over 20K troops in the mountains but only a lvl 1 airfield. I am going to trap him and bombard him into submission. I will start loading one of the divisions that just unloaded for delivery to the Phillipines. Luzon is about to be invaded.

With the fall of Cagayan, at least 4 divisions are freed up from Mindano. I am also planning several other attacks.
The KB and other ships of a large convoy are sliding east along the south edge of Indochina near Cam Rahn bay. I think NJP has abandoned Palembang. Well, except for 50K troops, 600 guns and 200 AFV's. I hope he really did leave himself overstacked like that. There is no way I can wear him down with air bombardment so it will have to be the old quick and dirty bombardments. He is either bailing out on the area completely or plans on counter attacks along the east edge of Indochina.
Palembang is not much of an issue as it cannot generate anything NJP can use unless he can get his ships in to pick up oil. Now that I have captured most bases nearby including Praebolith(sp) I think it would be a mistake to try.
One division was totally disrupted at Palembang. I am moving him back to Java to recover. Java has so many bases in supply that they really heal up fast there. Another division is landing at Benokelen as we speak and will be joined by the division that is in pieces right now racing for the base north of Palembang to secure it.
I am not interested in getting my armor bogged down in the swamps of Palembang so here is the general plan. There is a division trained for the east base on that 2 base island up west of Hong Kong. Unfortunately it is at Sabang right now. What is going to happen is within 2 turns it will start loading at Sabang. It will be transported to Batavia where many troop transports are enroute at the moment.
My main carrier force is near Tawi Tawi covering the invasion of Jesselton. These carriers will be joined by most of the other carriers in the region. Within a few turns I will begin loading 2 regiments of an Australian Division on Puerto Principe. These units will be transported to Singkawang where they will promptly throttle the 2K troops at that base. This will put the whole NW corner of Borneo in jeopardy for NJP.
Meanwhile, many divisions with armor are going to mass at Batavia. The plan is to sail directly Northeast and make landings at Indochina and possibly China proper along with an invasion of Kingushan.
In the meantime I will drop a couple divisions on Luzon to climb up to Manila. It appears he has about 30K troops massed in the city. There are not many developed air bases except for Clark Field at lvl 8 and Manila at a 4 I think. I will develop bases near Manila and do the same thing I did at Palembang with sweeps of P47's to reduce his CAP. He didnt like the 6-1 damage results from those planes on close attack.
Ok, we are in April of 1944. It appears that Japan no longer has access to Palembang for oil. Miri is likely shut down as well. The north 1/2 of Malaya and Sumatra are in Allied Control including Medan.
What is the average economic lifespan of Japan after this point under these conditions?
What can I do to start really sticking the Japanese economic machine?

Ok, we are in April of 1944. It appears that Japan no longer has access to Palembang for oil. Miri is likely shut down as well. The north 1/2 of Malaya and Sumatra are in Allied Control including Medan.
What is the average economic lifespan of Japan after this point under these conditions?
What can I do to start really sticking the Japanese economic machine?
I don't see any JFB responses yet, and I certainly don't qualify as one but I have read many AARs and sandboxed both sides a bit so I will throw something out to be kicked around:
Nothing appears to happen at first because Japan has stockpiles of fuel, HI points, aircraft engines, etc. How much is there depends on how the game has gone and how good the Japanese player has been at managing things.
The IJN will have to cut back on operations to only the very necessary ones to stretch the available supply of fuel. In 1944, producing aircraft seems to be more important than having a navy.
My guess is that it will take 4-8 months (about six average) before factories start to shut down for lack of HI points and fuel. You will notice it sooner if attrition in the air war has been high.
That's how I see this playing out - time for someone else to chime in and kick my misconceptions around!

Thanks for the reply. It isnt really a fair question as there isnt enough data to make anything more than an educated guess. Since I have never played Japan nor a game this long I dont even have that ;]
He has been excellent with his air losses so that is not an issue. However, he did field a long sustained campaign in Burma and India that did not net much in terms of oil or resources (I think..) and the same for Australia.
The current plan is to start pushing in China which will hopefully lower his supply reserves there and stress the whole system.

I don't see any JFB responses yet, and I certainly don't qualify as one but I have read many AARs and sandboxed both sides a bit so I will throw something out to be kicked around:

I think this is wildly optimistic interpretation. I don't know anything about Japan's economy in this game, I don't even remember which scenario this is, but Palembang oil failing is something every JFB plans for and expects. It would be nicer to hold onto the oil for another 2 months and make June 44...

You may be right Lowpe. I base my estimate in part on the way the IJN has had to race all over the map to deal with Wargamr's shotgun attacks. That is fuel used rather than stockpiled.
No matter how bad a situation is, you can always make it worse. - Chris Hadfield : An Astronaut's Guide To Life On Earth
I went back to page 1, this is indeed a scenario 1 game...so losing Palembang oil two months early is not really ideal from a Japanese POV. However, it is also not unexpected. Let us hope NJP has planned accordingly.
I have almost completely surrounded Palembang. My troop estimates are that NJP has 50,000 troops including 600 guns in the base.
Unfortunately for him the base can only hold 40,000 troops.
So, he is 25% overstacked in the hex.
How much will that affect him in terms of supply? I do not need to attack the base any time soon and I am wondering if it would be advantageous to simply let his overstack work in my favor.

Lowpe, the goalpost of Japan keeping Palembang till June 44 is a good marker. Thank you!
