I'm just glad that when I served we knew who the bad guys were. Although reading this book the Soviets were always playing catch up and Mao really wanted a nuclear war.

Thats actually an American commercial, so there. [:'(]
I found the English used in the commercial very offputting. I'm unfamiliar with that dialect or jargon. Were they speaking "New York"? [&:]

It's scandimerican. I thought you northern folk would be familiar with it. [:'(]

I know who the bad guys are in relation to me.

The SWO.
Aircrew.
Officers in general.
Adminers.
PTIs.

We didnt have PTIs on boats. I once asked on our our health bods why he didn't exercise at sea. His answer - becuase if you could analyse like I can you wouldn't breathe more that you had to - was my excuse for spending evenings watching movies.

And the officers were always the bad guys.. We had one new one arrive who would walk aroing 1 Tube and hover. I told my watch to ignore him and he'd slowly back away. he didn't last long. We had others worse...

Darn, ain't it the truth. Know quite a few people who wax nostalgic about the "old days". One knew what the threat was and its level of capability, and who were the generals, and how they normally thought, and how this, and who that, and what tfo.

Oh, but life was so much simpler then;
We're younger than that now.

Like the man says, war is an extension of politics. So what are the politics? Whatever one may think of Brother Quadafi, he has put Libyan crude on the world market according to its stats. Libyan crude is light/sweet, probably the lightest/sweetest that is available on the world market. This is significant way beyond the bbl production figures.

So, on the one hand, there's this serious jerk pimple who gets his backdoor people to bomb airliners, but who plays according to the rules for resource flow. On the other hand, there's the rebels, who may or may not be democratic, but who might have a skoosh of Shia in their mix. Neither side is likely to exhibit any sort of political/social thought or consequence. One must think about what a successful revolution will involve.

On a purely national interest scale, I'm for the guy who keeps the light/sweet flowing. The Libyan thing is between Lucifer and Beelzebub. Your choice of evils.

To change the subject, isn't it about time for FPS developers to MAYBE start to use a new engine? The Unreal engine is REALLY showing its age.[:@]

Best of luck on that...fraid it isn't in my area of interest. Never played one. Never will.

Who said that playing wargames is of no use? Just finished a match in a quiz league I'm participating in. Have to answer eight questions in max two minutes. Mixed multiple choice and "writing" questions. One question was to name the place where 150+ British troops fought off 3-4000 Zulu warriors in 1879. I still remember playing the Rorke's Drift game on my old C64. Another question was what name the current Indonesian capital of Jakarta formerly had - that's Batavia [;)] ... and the third question with direct bearing on my hobby was what code name for the German assault on Moscow in 1941 had [;)]

Questions are drawn at random. Quite lucky with the draw this time. [:D]

ETA: Not always lucky with the draw. Remember the first time I had a match against a guy who is a surgeon. Of course we had to have four questions directly related to anatomy and/or medicine. Lost that match [:'(]

ETA2: I misremembered the platform for the Rorke's Drift game - played it on the Amiga.

Because I want my Thread Brothers to live happier lives ( from an article I read concerning health tips ):

" 4. Have hotter sex

The researcher: Alan Hirsch, MD, director, Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation

The lesson: Smelling popcorn can boost your sex life. "Our studies found that men respond to just about any scent with increased penile blood flow. Skip the pricey perfume—it upped blood flow by only 3%. The smell of cheese pizza increased it by 5%; buttered popcorn, by 9%; and the combined scent of lavender and pumpkin pie, a whopping 40%." "

I told my wife to go look for some lavendar flavored popcorn. I don't think she believed me.

That's awesome! I happen to love the smell of both lavender and pumpkin pie! [8D]

Maybe I can talk my wife into sharing a lavender bath while we feed each other pumpkin pie (with lots of whipped cream of course).

Well, we do have some pumpkin bread here .....[;)]

I got a suspicious-looking e-mail today, supposedly from Blizzard. It thanked me for "being an early supporter of StarCraft II" and informed me that because of this "support", my battlenet account had been "upgraded" to download a free 30-day version of World of Warcraft.

All I had to do was click on a link in the e-mail.

Yeah. Sure. I'll go right ahead and do that.

Even if I WANTED to play World of Warcrap, which I don't, there's not enough free playing time in the world to make me click on a link in an e-mail.

And finally, I've been playing Total War: Shogun 2. It's pretty, but seems unstable on my rig. If any of you guys want it, you might want to wait for the first patch.

Thread, there's a lot of spambots on the forum at the moment. Management seems unwilling or unable to clear them out in a timely fashion and morons keep responding to them, drawing more.

This place is becoming untenable.

Sounds exactly like Empire TW when they released that. Took half a year before they had it stable. Avoiding that game company since then.

Fuuny you said that, my son and I were talking about getting that as we had fun with the first one when he was younger. I think we will just put that off for a bit longer.
